Mitch Wallis...no way in hell. List plodder. Good for our VFL team.

If we don't get Callaghan by trading Goldie and our 2022 first we must go for Constable

The joke was so obvious that you actually wonder if it was a joke. It takes genuine talent to post like that

100 percent but I imagine we’re talking about that bigger body inside mid that could shake things up in our rotation. I’m not saying it’s a must but unless Tarryn adds 10kg of muscle, we just have one other inside mid left and that’s Cunnington. Yes Jed hits packs hard but he isn’t going to be pushing Wines, Martin or Bontempelli out of the way.

Also it just wouldn’t suit his TT game style to put on some added mass and play more inside, being that mercurial silk midfielder.

Similar to how Cripps will help Cerra and Walsh. We need one more big insider. I’m advocating Zuurhar does more midfield rotations and practices as a mid/forward.

I know I went on a bit of a tangent here. Sorry...
I get what you're saying but I don't think we really need a monster inside mid moving forward. Looking at the top 8 and especially the top 4, how many of those teams have a Cunnington type? Outside of Wines, Tom Green and Josh Kennedy I wouldn't say there are any inside monsters similar to Cunners or Cripps. Oliver, Libba, Selwood, Lyons etc are all very good on the inside but are not monsters and are much more mobile than Cunners. There is no reason Simpkin couldn't perform a similar role to those guys and in fact I'd say he had a better year than all of them bar Oliver and maybe Lyons.

The other issue is unless the player you bring in is seriously elite in the middle and has one or two other assets (Cunners can take a mark and is an elite handball) they get found out and aren't really damaging at AFL level - see Dumont. Solid citizen, but no star.

The three you mentioned Petracca, Bont and Martin are all very strong but are also very inside/outside balanced. We are hoping LDU can play that role. It'd be nice if he could get to their level but even if he is a step or two down he is going to be a very good mid for 4-5 years.

Agree on TT, his best role is going to be floating through the middle and the forward line basically doing what he wants, similar to Martin. JHF should be playing a similar role. You add in Stevo and there aren't going to be many teams that can go with all 3 of them.

Phillips is going to be a mainly inside mid - clean in the contest with a strong defensive mindset.

And I haven't even mentioned Powell. He could be the best of the lot. Actually any of the above mentioned could be.

Basically, I don't think there is a need for a like for like replacement of Cunners, the sum of all parts of the inside work of Jy, Phillips, LDU, JHF and Powell should more than cover him.

5. Robbie Tarrant (North Melbourne to Richmond)
Why go for a 32-year-old, you say?

Because he’s got an outstanding record on the game’s best forwards and, apart from this year’s surgery to remove a growth, he has missed only four games since 2015 after a 2014 season wrecked by a tibia stress reaction.

So, there is no reason the Tigers won’t get three excellent years out of the free agent as the anchor of the club’s defence, freeing up Noah Balta to be his explosive self on the second or third tall, to allow Dylan Grimes a superior match-up and give Nathan Broad the space to continue his excellent form in a more offensive half-back role.

The flow-on effect from him shutting down the opposition’s best forward goes all the way down the chain.

7. Callum Coleman-Jones (Richmond to North Melbourne)
As a former pick 20 with four seasons under his belt, he’s clearly served his apprenticeship and, while he only played eight games this year, he kicked multiple goals in four of them, including four against Adelaide.

There were times Coleman-Jones failed to seize his moment, but playing 36 per cent ruck and 64 per cent forward, he was the third banana behind forward targets Jack Riewoldt and Tom Lynch.

Todd Goldstein played 91 per cent game time this year - the most of any ruckman - but the Roos played Tom Campbell in nine games and Tristan Xerri in eight games, so they are keen to play a second ruckman-forward.

Coleman-Jones doesn’t have to dominate playing behind Goldstein as the heir apparent.

And the Roos are excited about Todd Goldstein playing more forward so he should seek to double his output of 12 goals from 2021 next year.

I agree for the most part, but Oliver is an animal. Only bloke to get more contested possessions than Cunners per game this year.

Yeah he is, but my point was that he isn't a physical monster in the way Cripps and Cunners are and he can move - Cunners wouldn't even dream about kicking a goal like Oliver did at the end of the 3rd

"We've had conversations with every club, but certainly North Melbourne," Reid said.

"We saw what Jason did last Friday night in that prelim for the Panthers. "He's a quality individual and I wouldn't have thought North Melbourne are moving too much on their pick one."

Oooh I don't know about that - he's a beast.

Bit of overhyping of Coleman-Jones going on at the moment. He’s shown a bit but the fact remains he’s only played 8 games. “Kicked 4 against Adelaide”, there’s loads of players that showed more in but never really kicked on, see Mason Wood and Aaron Black for example.

I’ll be happy if the club recruits him but I wouldn’t be giving up more then pick 38. He was a pick 20 and only played 8 games in 4 years, his value hasn’t gone up, it’s gone down. “Yeah but he was competing for a spot when the Tigers were flying”- so what. Be cautious of fringe players from top clubs.

Not a gripe. Gulden went pick 32 for example. If he had gone late teens we could not have matched. You folk have the wonderful Thomas via the NGA. You put sfa into his development. Good luck to you. Your mob scored a beauty. Footscray did too with U-H and he barely had contact with the Dogs in his development years.

All the Northern Academies grow the game among kids. In our case we stepped in when the AFL had demonstrably failed to grow the game. We do not get a brass razoo for our efforts and it is self funded.

Yeah, we can't all pull off development miracles like introducing the son of a 350 game two time premiership player to footy.

We won't.

Tarrant three excellent years is about a 100-1 shot.

It’s good to hear that we’ve picked up the phone and listened to offers. It’s an intelligent move, but obviously no club has offered a kings ransom so welcome JHF!

Brisbane was his back up!

When (since Nick Stevens) has a club taken a player in the PSD who has nominated another club, especially a club in a different state to the one he has nominated?

Will never happen and the AFLPA will get their knickers in a knot until the new EBA until hopefully clubs can trade players anywhere they like.
We should be allowed to trade PSD pick 1.
We could offer it to adelaide for a second round pick.
