Fair point, but my real point is who actually knows? No one had the slightest hint we were taking Phillips last year, I think we keep our cards close to our chest. From the very little that has come out of the club about our plans, I would think it very unlikely anyone in the media can safely know what we are going to do, which means there is no way of knowing what happens from there. To suggest it has been mapped out to the point Daicos won't be bid on until pick 3 so that's all the Pies need to worry about to match in points is a stretch.

More just a dig about how lazy the journalism around it all is! I mean two of them off air could have a chat, one of them says "I don't think a bid would come for Daicos until 3" completely based on nothing but their opinion, then the other can go on air and truthfully say "I'm hearing pick 3 for Daicos"
We will know on draft day if they are low on points, the temptation would be to smack them.
I for one dont care what we do really. Im just so happy to be getting JHF.

Exactly!

Maybe it is North leaking the pick 3 story, Pies come to draft day low on points, then, bang pick 1 bid!

Yep exactly.
We sort of want them to shuffle there picks for shit ones.
We may catch some of there decent picks.
We dont let them know our first pick under any circumstances.
Nor the dogs. Pick 17 would be lovely.
I do however struggle to give a shit what this Daicos flog goes in the draft.
But thats just me. He is a pies player.

This + GC shopping pick 3 and saying they might shift picks into future years = Finn Callaghan in blue and white.
Cue the it’s happening GIF!
Could see something on draft night with GC if they still have pick 3 (5). Say Callaghan is who we want at 2 and GWS is unwilling to trade 2, they then come out with a surprise and take Andrew or someone else at 2 then we hit up GC and offer 20 and next years first

I'm a fan of the club taking JHF with pick one of the think he's the number one player.

However I'm also a fan of pushing Collingwood into deficit. They may finish below us next year. I'm happy to take a pick they should have had. Especially if we're bottom 4.

Totally agree. I'll back the club to do whatever is best for us. If that is JHF at 1, because he's the best and we want that known to him and the footy world, great! If it is decided to put the points deficit on one or both of the Pies and Dogs, to hopefully add value to our later picks or even potentially next year's picks, that has merit too. Every decision should be about getting us closer to flag #5 (and #6 and #7!) that is all that matters!

I’m not saying don’t take JHF, I’m just saying to dismiss trades etc without consideration of other factors is childish.

just curious, would have you traded Carey at his peak if a godfather trade came our way? not saying JHF is as good as Carey yet ;) but just curious if you would have.

If there is a bid on Daicos at pick 1, an example is Collingwood trading their 2022 2nd pick (and probably a sweetener in some form) to Fremantle for pick 27 which gives them just enough points to match the bid.

I don’t see the point of the question. Considering a trade is a magnitude of difference from doing a trade.

And why would you trade the best player ever at the peak of his powers?

I just don’t understand the point of your question.

ROOS MAKE VETERAN WAIT
NORTH Melbourne veteran Shaun Atley will be made to wait until after this year's Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period before being informed whether he will receive an offer for next season.

Atley is the most experienced Kangaroo currently playing the waiting game at Arden Street, having been dropped for three of the final four matches this season after an indifferent year under the guidance of new coach David Noble.

It brought an end to a proud period as a regular in North Melbourne's team, with Atley previously playing 216 of a possible 219 games for the club dating back to the start of the 2012 season.

North Melbourne faced a tricky situation with a number of senior players this off-season, with veteran defender Robbie Tarrant opting to take a two-year deal at Richmond after 174 games for the Kangaroos.

Free agent Trent Dumont is also uncontracted and faces an uncertain future as he explores his options, while Taylor Garner and Dom Tyson have been delisted. But highly respected captain Jack Ziebell re-signed on a two-year contract last week.

Reserve ruckman Tom Campbell and NAB AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft prospect Charlie Ham are also uncontracted beyond 2021, joining Atley and Dumont in awaiting decisions on their future throughout the trade period. – Riley Beveridge

Brodie averaged 30 and 5 tackles in the VFL.

Some talent there and would come cheaply in terms of picks.

A genuine inside midfielder isn't a massive area of concern for us but could be handy to build depth in that 22 - 25 age bracket.

i'd prefer to keep Trent, then trade for Will, as it would be handy to retain some depth in our 26 year olds

Unrestricted free agent Trent Dumont is leaning towards leaving North Melbourne after tumbling down the club’s midfield pecking order.

It’s understood Dumont, 26, is yet to reveal his intentions to the Kangaroos but is unlikely to remain at Arden St.

He is one of four out-of-contract North players whose futures are on hold, along with 234-game veteran Shaun Atley, back-up big man Tom Campbell and mid-season draftee Charlie Ham.

Dumont can walk to his club of choice without requiring a trade to be brokered.

Essendon has previously shown some interest in the South Australian product, but neither Adelaide nor Port Adelaide is expected to be interested this time around.

Adelaide defender Jake Kelly will exercise his free agency rights to sign with the Bombers, while Sydney’s restricted free agent George Hewett is set to sign a long-term deal with Carlton.

Veteran Kangaroos defender Robbie Tarrant is also going to accept a two-year contract to cross to Richmond.

The bumper 2021 free agency crop largely re-signed at their club, including Rory Laird, Patrick Cripps, Zach Merrett, Cam Guthrie, Josh Kelly, Max Gawn, Jack Billings, Luke Parker and Marcus Bontempelli.
North invested heavily in the midfield as the first plank in its list overhaul, with Jy Simpkin, Luke Davies-Uniacke, Tarryn Thomas, Will Phillips and Tom Powell already giving them new-found depth.

The Roos are also certain to select on-ball ace Jason Horne-Francis with their first pick this year, even if it follows potential bids on father-son prospects Nick Daicos (Collingwood) and Sam Darcy (Western Bulldogs).

Dumont finished top five in North Melbourne’s best and fairest award in 2018-19 but fell out of the midfield rotation this year and played almost exclusively as a wingman.

He was never a full-time on-baller but carved out a reputation as the club’s best defensive midfielder, who could also win his share of the Sherrin.
