Three on ball, one on wing, one half forward, one on the bench and all of them rotating. 83% game time for everyone. Happy days.

Who are you breaking the news to that they are a bench player? :p

The elephant in the room is, we are likely going to lose at least one of our young talented mids in the next few years.

Simpkin, LDU, Phillips, Powell, Thomas, JHF

Two followers, one in the middle, two wingmen and I am not sure any in that group have the traits to be an elite wingman. Who wants to be the depth player?

Probably a good problem to have, but, a problem nonetheless.
We saw this year that Nobes and co are big on getting our mids able to play other positions. Simpkin spoke about playing on the wing in his Syd Barker speech, we saw Powell play on the wing at times, JHF looked outstanding when we played on the wing during the SANFL finals. Thomas is as outstanding a forward prospect as he is a mid, JHF has shown forward capability, LDU was played forward a bit this year, Stepho can play both forward and wing, with a little bit in the middle.

I don't think it's a big issue and, as much as I don't like this particular facet of it, I also think it's why we're comfortable not resigning a player like Frog. We want to open up opportunities for as many of our young mids as possible.

How? It's likely we would only give up a pick around 38-40 after you consider the draft points index.

Pretty sure Dawson will cost more...
Adelaide already walked hately to the PSD, sure sounds like Sydney and them are a ways off consensus on Dawson too. I know we have pick 1, but unless we can convince Dawson to come to Melbourne rather than go home to Adelaide, i doubt we pick him against his will.

Pick 4
Next year pick 4ish
Next year pick 18ish

For

Pick 1 (JHF)
Next year Pick 19ish

So more or less JHF for pick 4 and another top 5-6 pick next year.

If we disregard the 40 for 42 swap.
We traded Tarrant for 47. Something for nothing is good I guess, especially if that is closer to 40 on draft night.
But assuming we move up say 4/5 spots next year being somewhat realistic, we've effectively traded pick 24 for CCJ and a future fourth (say a pick in the 60's, bordering on irrelevant). How can anyone say that isn't overs considering the leverage we had.

Don’t remind me but we got 42 and 47 back and we traded 40 to them we smashed it.

Just add up the points before you slit your throat - leaving aside Taz, for whom we couldn’t get anything, we got CCJ for the equinox pick 38, which is what we said we would

Agree and also, other teams may place a hard tag on 1 of those, maybe a run with on another. But all of them? No way.

Some will have off days, others hot patches.

We just keep the rotations going. Keep them fresh for finals.

Sharing the load will also prolong their careers. Just look at few other mids that have carried sides alone or with little help. Unsustainable.

Insert future's so bright I need to wear shades gif...

Definitely, that happens already. Guys like Stepho, Curtis and Mahony who are up forward will rotate through the middle.

Simpkin spoke about playing on the wing in his Syd Barker speech, we saw Powell play on the wing at times, JHF looked outstanding when we played on the wing during the SANFL finals.

Simpkin said that was more a lesson to learn how to be more offensive, the lesson was he wasn't getting enough of the uncontested ball so he was given time in that role to learn to get more uncontested ball. When you hope to contend, you wouldn't be placing weak links in the side or teaching on-field on the fly like that.

Thomas is as outstanding a forward prospect as he is a mid, JHF has shown forward capability, LDU was played forward a bit this year, Stepho can play both forward and wing, with a little bit in the middle.

He can go missing up forward, he was having a massive impact this year in the middle. You wouldn't waste that ability in a fringe forward flank role.

I don't think it's a big issue and, as much as I don't like this particular facet of it, I also think it's why we're comfortable not resigning a player like Frog. We want to open up opportunities for as many of our young mids as possible.

It is not a big issue, for now. I am sure the club would love to keep them all, however, it is inevitable other clubs will chase the ones that end up on the fringe pretty hard.

And what if We didn’t trade Taz for anything, because there was no compo on offer? Were you on the comms from the AFL about what the Taz compo was going to be?

Opportunity abodes here,

if we can somehow wrangle pick 2 out of gws to get Callaghan after dealing with the crows then I’d be on.

nothing coming back from us, you want the pick 1 you gotta work for it.

if we could walk away with the following then we have quantum leapt forward in our rebuild

callaghan
NM 22 Rd1
Adelaide 22 Rd1
Melbourne 22 Rd1

Terrible depth then :p

Not worth breaking that down because your taking a positive in the Tarrant value and exacerbating a negative to suit your narrative.

At the end of the day we got rid of someone who didn’t want to be with us and the equivalent of pick 33-38 for a young KPP who wants to play for us.

So - if the core trade was Tarrant and 40 for CCZ plus the future 3rd

You have to wonder why we gave up a future 2nd for 42&47 this year? There is something cooking???

let’s see

Has to be something cooking. You wouldn’t give away your 2nd round pick easily when your in a building phase.

So far Tarryn and JHF have shown they are capable of playing in the forward 50 (though at different levels). Yes, a good problem to have.

They definitely can, but they are both midfielders and will want to be spending the majority of their time there eventually.

Would like to see us hold Xerri to his contract and delist Campbell now

find a trade for Polec

grab someone in the PSD
It looks like we are in the Pole Position to pick up Nathaniel ****lingham as our first pick in the PSD. Well done Rawling. :stern look

Can't have too many quality mids. Look at Melbourne. Shoved Brayshaw from the starting 4, shoved Vandenberg off the list. Made a midfield with Macrae, Bont, Daniel, Dunkley, Treloar look like witches hats for 45mins in a Grand Final.

Keep building a midfield so good that we'll have every uncontracted player and FA falling over themselves wanting to play for us, and we'll fill in the role players from there. One wants to leave? Fine, trade up for a quality tall back, rebounding flanker, crumbing forward or whatever and we'll round off the list.

We're actually playing this smart. Did we pay too much for CCJ? Seems like it. But let's find out. After thinking about it, the only disappointment was that we were expecting to boss the Tigers around and be hard arses and 'do what we want or we walk him to the PSD' and we didn't. Who cares? We targeted a potential 200-gamer, we got him. Let's get stuck into the last 3 days of trade week and see if we can shake another key player or pick from the tree.

You know what truly makes me laugh? Those clowns who are having a laugh at the supposed "Melts". What "Melts" yah dicks? The general consensus is that the deal is poor and people are rightly upset by it. It is sh*t! :stern look

The thing is, you deluded types see no wrong with your holier than thou, I think I'm always right attitude. In fact if you were offered a crank from Brady Rawling dressed as Edward Scissorhands, you would think it a great idea. :stern look

If truth be told, you don't know what the fu** is good and what isn't :stern look

Brady has a scent on bard Scott - after the hoopla of last trade period , where he just got lucky.
Hope he got a free tigers membership with that reaming ffs.
We better not trade pick 1
Next trade period I’m off to North Korea - no access to the internet hopefully.

At this stage it’s a very good problem.
