There's no obsession with us taking them with every pick but since Gresham we've used one top 40 pick on a mid (Clark) and 3 on key forwards (King, Battle, Allison).

There was no reason we couldn't use a late pick on a key forward.
Gresh is a forward anyway. Don’t try and convince me otherwise.

He may be but I'm talking about when they were drafted. He was a genuine mid at TAC cup level.

Clark is the only mid we've used with a decent pick and we refuse to play him there.

Without a strong midfield we are going nowhere. I don't see the point on spending good picks on players because we lack depth.

Jackson Callow could have solved that issue with a rookie pick.

Just don't see it happening. There was the same talk around Crouch last year and he was band 3.
His current deal with us is between
700-750.

Matching that deal gets us a top end compo.

According to Tom Morris the Roos are very interested. So why would Billings leave for less then he is on now?

Secondly, we can force clubs to the table for a deal aswell or match if it is unders.

He is his most dangerous up forward.

But that’s also ignoring how good he is with his clearance work and his ability to accumulate touches

Because he is over paid right now and we won't offer him that deal again. He was in the form of his life when he signed that contract.

According to most he is playing great football this year aswell. What’s your point here?

Do you think if he goes to north he will go for market rate or an inflated rate?

we need more of everything
Absolutely we do. But by taking Allison, it's not like we were ignoring a gaping hole on our list and took something we don't need.

Allison played his best game so far yesterday. We took him knowing he would would take some time, so lets give him some time to show what he is before declaring he was a mistake.

2020 Trevor Barker Award | TOP 10
1. Jack Steele (207)
2. Dan Butler (126)
3. Dougal Howard (122)
4. Rowan Marshall (120)
5. Nick Coffield (119)
6. Zak Jones (117)
7. Callum Wilkie (113)
8. Paddy Ryder (107)
9. Hunter Clark (100)
10. Sebastian Ross (92)

Ryder and Ross only over 25's so our youth is actually very good in the 20 something bracket. We need new draftees though.

Agreed. Will be good. Give the kid lots of time. First bloody year FFS. He is 19.

Let the poor kid develop at Sandy all year. It's paid off with Leo Connelly who I reckon will debut this week.

It’s a really poor season that started bad with injuries and hasn’t really improved. We probably don’t know yet but it wouldn’t surprise me if there was a lot of injuries throughout pre season too.

Anyway hit the draft hard this year. The top half a dozen are all good mids apparently.

Morris said this that he is on a juicy contract now and we wont want to pay him that again

My point is that he was in the form of his life when he signed the contract. That was pretty obvious because I said exactly that.

He got 9 Brownlow votes in the first half of that year when he signed his contract from memory and than I don't think he got one after that.

He was also 2 years younger and loomed like he might go ally be tracking to that elite area. I think now most know what you see is what you are most likely going to get.

He's been solid this year, one of our better players, but not great and not as good as he was when he signed that contract.

Yes, because history tells you you are more likely to get a better player the higher up the draft you go and we need a quality mid much more than we need a key forward.

Not a great deal of quality mids get taken after pick 30 or 40

And also the fact that there were obvious selections with that pick, instead we took a project tall to fill depth.

Don’t preach to me. I don’t think he is a star.

However I think a club like north or essendon would pay it no issues.

He is a good player. If he was at a club where there was 4-5 a graders around him and he could get off the chain. He would be better.

He can’t carry a club.

Are young mids a bigger priority right now? Looking at our young players, we have more mids in that category than KPPs.

And couldn't the same logic about quality mids being taken early in the draft apply to forwards as well? Either way, one position had to be taken with an early pick and someone had to be taken with the late pick.

We took Allison knowing he would take some time. So let's give him to some to find his feet before criticising the decision to take him.

Yes they, because right now our midfield is 2nd rate and I can't see anyone really changing that. We have Dunstan in the VFL and that's it.

We are expected to believe Jack Bytel will be the saviour getting 15 touches a game.

My point was we took Allison because we lack depth in the key forward department. We could have got a depth project key forward with a late pick.

I didn't like the decision at the time and nothing has happened to change my mind. I'm happy to give Allison time, I've said all along he's going to take a long time but it doesn't mean I can't disagree with the selection.

Also, you can never have enough mids. If they all end up guns you play a couple on the flank. Right now one gun woukd be good though.

to be fair it's the quality of the touches Bytel gets. In every game they're not just cheapies on the side he's getting hard contested ball and hitting targets which shows promise

I don't disagree that he's good at winning he isn't showing some good signs, but not enough to suggest he's going to be an elite mid and we don't have to worry about drafting more

Why in the world would Collingwood do that ?

Here you go you have our 1st round pick and we will miss 12months development on a top 10 pick, just makes no sense

They’d get slaughtered - especially after last years trade period.

Just seems very strange to use our first pick on a project tall who isn't really a kpp more a utility like Battle. Who was also looking like a late to rookie pick.
When poulter was there roughly the same size as Allison, ready to play, inside, outside and forward.

At 195cm, he is the size to be a genuine kpp. And a few days before the draft, he was predicted to go in the 2nd round with North and GWS two of the teams heavily into him. Taking him at pick 26 was a "reach" by about 4 picks, not as extreme as some are making it out to be.
