Laughable, surely you must think it's April 1, top 20 pick minimum
Obviously I want 1st band compo I was just pointing out that we let our players go for unders.

So I won't be suprised if we accept band 2 and try to turn it into a feel good story how we helped billings get to the club of his choice and we get another pick in the top 40.

Jack Steven was traded for pick 58

Josh Bruce for picks 32 and 51

Nick hind for pick 67

So billings should net us a pick between 40 and 50

The AFL take this out of our hands. FA compo is basically a formula where the league decides how shit you are and gives something random to fit whatever suits them at the time.

I guarantee you in the lead up to trade week his agent will leak a story about how Jack wants a fresh start and how the onus is on on StKilda to get a deal done.

From that point on, you will get unders.

Also, what part of his resume makes people think a team will offer him huge money, a 4th place finish in the B&F in 2019?
He is a FA so there is no onus on us to get anything done.

If he does leave, what we get in return will be determined by the contract offered to him by the other club. We would have no control over what that is.

I have zero confidence in lethlean, Gallagher and our recruiting team.

It‘s getting to the point where I just expect us to loose on the ground and off, their even sapping my interest in the draft and trade period. I know people will be all over me and it will be the usual excuses or rose coloured glasses stuff.

If their so good then why are we so lousy, bereft of young talent compared to others and with a full salary cap. The only thing that gives me some hope is that I firmly believe with the right people in place we could change all that. I also believe that bassat is a good operator and maybe if the whispers of lethlean leaving are true it could be a massive blessing in disguise.

We have quite a few players who I’d happily trade for the right deal so getting more picks this year should’t be a problem. We don’t need to make many trades just the right ones and nobody should be off the table, which in reality means stupid offers or easily replaced players.

Billings seems an obvious player to let walk but I disagree, I’m happy enough if he wants out and we can get band one otherwise he stays. He’s too good to take a second, he’s the right age to keep and we can get the same sort of value trading someone we don’t need.

Bad luck if he wants a fresh start. Who cares what his Manager says. Tough t***ies.

If the free agency compensation is likely to be inadequate then we match and at the least force a trade. If a club like North or Hawthorn wants him then they would be better off paying a bit more to avoid that.

If the other club won’t trade then Jack either stays with us or nominates for the draft.

Business is business.

Except clubs won't offer Billings that. Two quieter weeks in a row. A 750k player should influence the result in a game like last night. It will be a second rounder compo.

If they don't offer him stupid money we can match and keep him.
If they do offer him stupid money they are stupid, we don't match and we get decent compensation.

Basically we either get to keep billings on a contract of his actual value or let him go for overs and take band 1 compo.

Alluring yes, likely, not really.

Billings is struggling to get a kick at the moment. No one will be wanting to pay him that kind of money.

Or he’s playing like he has already accepted an offer to go.

Looking ahead to 2023, which is when the club has stated our window is open, I can reasonably see this as being our starting team.

You can make a reasonable case that the emergencies listed wont be on the list either. and that all the players on the interchange are midfielders which is concerning for the depth of the other lines.

However we still need a FB, and another forward, first option FB would be Jack Payne, however not sure if he will be willing to leave. as for the forward you could either have the resting ruckman play there if we are certain we want 2 rucks, but if its a small forward, why not ask the question of Bobby hill, might be willing to come down to play with Brad.

Of Course, this doesn't include any draftees we select with them probably taking the emerg spots of a few of those listed.

Trade
  • Billings- 1st (trade/let go while he still has value, doesn't impact games significantly enough, and for a first-round pick, we should take it)
  • Battle- 2nd (has never shown that he can consistently play at a high level, his best position was CHB, but Doogs has stated multiple times, he would prefer to play CHB and I think we can all agree that is his better position as he doesn't have the body strength for FB and is more of rebounding CHB, this would also probably stop him from taking kick-outs. Furthermore, if we are serious about taking Ben King, this effectively takes out another Spot for Battle, and leaves just the wing, which as we have seen, he cant play).
  • Ross- 2nd (same with Billings, doesn't impact games enough, and might have value to another team where can get a top 30 pick)
  • Dunstan- 4th (nobody probably makes this trade, so if not we delist, or keep for sandy depth)

And really, I think we’d be happy to keep him rather than let him go for less than we want, so I don’t think we have a lot to lose.

I agree with the trades.
If Bing happens, Membrey might need to trial a role at CHB if the position isn't filled prior.

Turn him into a marking and rebounding CHB. He's a good field kick too

If bing happens membrey gets the 3rd defender again and will kick 40 plus!

Don't take a perfectly good fwd and make him a defender, just trade/draft a defender!

I thought about this a couple of weeks ago.. members would be a very good intercept defender.. and like you said.. a reliable kick out of defence is always needed.. I’d definitely trial it if our forward structure was set & somebody replaces membrey as a forward target.

Warning bells were going off when we walked Steven and Bruce out for SFA. Both trades were completely ****ed & there weren't too many people with me on calling the club out for that.

For too long we have been too focused on being nice, setting up a respectable image etc

Richmond do whatever they want & they win flags.

Much better to ask forgiveness than permission.

Heard from my source that apparently Billings has 3 very very good contracts in front of him. One from a finals contender as well, should net band one and he doubts saints will match.
Best for both parties with these said contracts apparently.

On another note, he also said that the formula is also to AFL discretion at times, especially with "trigger" clauses.

I like it. Hopefully we have DRAFTED some young mids as well by then, we need to blood some St.Kilda players in the middle of the ground, Steele’s little minions to do his bidding

The only trading we should is for draft picks. Topping up from other clubs clearly does not work for us. No heart & soul. We need more St Kilda people at the club too. A huge broom needs to sweep through the entire club.

I don't mind some targeted trades for good players who have a lot of growth left and aren't on insane money and picks. No more Hill like trades but if you could get Taranto or Hopper that's a different story but only if it's need and only if the deal doesn't cripple us for another 6 years and take all our draft picks.

Letting Billings go for whatever, wonder how much that will free up in the SC

Can’t believe we keeped Lonie ahead of Nick Hind and Parker last year, that really hurts and both guys never really got a good shot at it. Iv for no idea what ratts plan is for Battle, can’t be running around on the wing and get 6 touches for the game . Needs a job either 3rd back or 3rd forward otherwise he is getting lost . Coffield drafted as a mid/ defender but have only seen him as a defender.. like the idea of moving him last night but not to be a lead up forward. Why haven’t we ever seen him as an inside midfielder? If he does go back to sandy needs a crack in the middle.

Just in case last night wasn't depressing enough the Sunday footy show was talking up Hind saying he's an upgrade on Saad and we wouldn't give him 2 years so he walked. Said he's borderline AA. Like rubbing salt on the wounds. I have anxiety that Matty Parker is going to be a superstar now.

Jesus Mate, you know what happened last time Hind was mentioned :thumbsupv1:
