If he's been prepared to come back on a 6 month contract on the chance to win another contract he deserves respect not bagging.

Probabaly no worse or better a year than the like's of Battle Wood or Coffield.

Worst game of his 6 games at the Tiges - will be interesting to see what happens.
So the post above mine your basically saying Chol and CCJ are no good then you have a crack at me for saying the same about Parker

Heard of Glass houses ?

The Cats have been able to sell the dream of constant contention and always look one or two players off a premiership. Geelong and surf coast real estate is cheaper and suits guys from the country who want a less stressful lifestyle.

I think they said Selwood has missed one finals series in his 15 seasons. Geelong only got him because they unexpectedly missed finals in 2005. Jack Steven played for 13 seasons and never played in a final. Players come and sign on for less to be part of the dream at the Cattery. Players that come to the Saints know it's unlikely that they play finals and as a smaller club you'll never get much of a profile or outside deals so you are going to attract fringe types who just want to come for cash.

Guys like Shaun Higgins wanted one last crack at glory so he signed with them knowing he'd be every chance at eternal glory. Same with Cameron, he wanted to go where he might actually get every chance at success.

We are in a cycle of paying guys semi developed like Clark and Coffield as the finished article so that they don't run off then if they don't come on to be top flight players they have already become used to being highly paid so you off load them like we are with Billings, Seb and Dunny. It's like a poverty cycle from paying for stuff on credit. Then on top of that we tempt GOPs over to the club on superstar money.

That's why you need to draft your core. Pay them on output not potential and it can be turned around but it's a 5 year program not a quick fix.
They also trade heavily on selling the lifestyle to those who aren’t taken with the big city, the surf and lifestyle gets more than a few over the line.

I’ve always though we should pick more locals, I mean if it’s a toss of the coin pick the sandy dragons kid. If you dragged me over to the western oval or Tullamarine I’d be two years and off to the saints or one of the clubs training around the Olympic precinct.

I wonder how attractive Geelong will be when they fall down the ladder but it’s definitely working for them now. Having Cardinia park doesn’t hurt either with an endless supply of taxpayer cash to keep the place up to standard.

You believe that they are the only players we are chasing?
Lose potentially up to 3 mids/half forwards and we are only looking at talks?
As good old gramps Biden would say 'come on man'.

I know that list management at St Kilda doesn't always have a logical structure.

That looks like weird list management if true. Two more tall players after chasing talls for a few drafts and apparently already counting on Ben King coming. McLean certainly wasn't a dominant ruckman a couple of years back and more like Marshall as a forward that pinch hits. But then on top of that potentially losing experienced mids. Riccardi makes sense if we are getting rid of Battle and Clav. He's an adaptable utility tall.
Nic Nat was fantastic last night but how many players like that do you see, I couldn’t give a rats about the taps so long as our rucks are competitive. It’s the follow up work, marking around the ground and being able to run goal square to goal square that counts imo. Good midfielders win clearances no matter who wins the tap and we need more young mids.

Amazing we get a good one out of the draft Battle and might lose him when he gets to 50 games . Don’t care what anyone says Ratts stuffed up on this one

All coaches play favourites but it's looking like there is some solid evidence that we don't maximise the potential of players on the list. Hind has been done to death but the inability to utilise his strengths are still a fail. Matt Parker had an ordinary day yesterday but it looks like Long and Lonie would be gone tomorrow if not for a contract for Long and then we are back to looking for a similar player while Butler is lucky to be on a good contract also.

Battle looks like the model of what not to do to get the most out of a talented player. Playing him on a wing has done him or the club absolutely nothing so far. He looks a noticeable worse player than he was a couple of years ago. Even someone like Joyce could have been given a consistent run of game to see if he could fill that spot that we need covered. He looked good to me and I'm not sure Riccardi would be a huge upgrade.

I really hate the stubborn backing in of players with absolutely awful form like Hill and Butler while others are left to rot. It's different if you are heading into finals and you want stability but I'm not sure what the plan is. Are we playing finals and in challenge mode or are we in rebuild while being competitive? I don't even know if the club knows or at least want to advertise it.

So you do think that we are only looking at talls to replace possibly 3 smalls?

Wow mate, you have jumped the shark early this trade period [emoji6][emoji6]

I have no idea and neither do you. We have done the illogical stuff for a long time, I'm just basing it on how we've operated in the past.

Riccardi would be a replacement for Carlisle, Frawley and Joyce/Clav who are off the list next year. I dont think it's strange list management to target another tall defender if we are parting with that many.

Same up forward - McLean would be replacing McKernan and Hunter from the list.

We still need to replace the ones we are culling with players who play similar position.

Doesnt mean there aren't also some mid types we are speaking with.

I think he was originally asking how they can still pay for a side when they have so much money tied up in two KPFs. Someone on SEN suggested that Collingwood or Essendon might pay BK $1million a season to secure his services
Geelong's salary cap is one of the biggest mysteries in the AFL. Incredible they keep affording the players they do.

Carlton heading into the territory with Cerra rumoured to join on a big contract too.

Hill - Butler- Kent have been gifted games

Here here. Saints have a shocking record of drafting a player who's an X, giving them no time to prove themself in that position before then throwing them into position A, B and C and wondering why they can't settle into a spot. Perfect example is Allison. He's been on the list less than 1 season and he's already been thrown into defence. Did it to Battle, who actually proved himself to be a decent key def add so we switched him again. Clark and Coffield are mids, both (especially Coffield) played almost exclusively in defence. Long has been thrown fwd, back, fwd, back.

I'd like us to recruit blokes and give them a proper crack at their best position before changing things up. Sinclair is a good example of this.. Had plenty of chances, was chucked in defence as a last attempt and flourished.

I want Clark and Coffield to start pre-season with the midfielders and stay there. We have the depth in defence now with Highmore/Sinclair in and Paton coming back. If Battle stays, lock him in as either a third def or fwd. Let the poor bugger settle in somewhere on the ground!

Carlton have always been shifty. Their club motto should be "Pay to Win".

Geelong are backed by the Calabrian Mafia via real estate. All their key staff end up profiting through 'very fortunate' development projects granted by local council.

Jez Cameron took a pay cut but he's no doubt invested in a few acres that are about to be re-zoned.

Kickbacks and handshake deals. Can't compete with that.

Also backed by local billionaire/superfan Nigel Austin who owns cotton on group and racehorses.
All the wives get manager jobs/modelling/design deals at cotton on.
Boys probably get cheap/free shares in horses too.

Lot of chat on here about battle wanting out,
I googled battle to see if there was a sniff in the media about him being upset.
All I could find was this from a couple of months ago.

I doubt he’s unhappy, rumours have probably just gained traction.

Most will say he’s been played out of position but he still needs to improve his game, currently looks more like a depth player then starting 22 so hopefully he has a big pre season.

Dunstan - Gone
Ross - testing the market
Billings - Cal Twomey reported he is likely to stay
Battle - rumours he is unhappy, wants to play forward and might ask for a trade

Interested in Hayden McLean from Sydney as a ruck/fwd. (from afl.com.au)
Someone on here mentioned as have enquired about Jake Riccardi from GWS to play key defender.
I remember there used to be a tread way back where there was just summaries like this, it was awesome for those of us that don't get on here often enough. I always wonder what I miss when I just read the last 3 pages hah.

Yeah sounds like he loves the joint 2 months ago.
Agree on your assessment there, he’s got some talent and he goes in hard. But I think he has a bit of improvement to do on just getting his hands on it a bit more whatever position he plays, also his weakness is in ability to change direction after he gets moving (too easily sidestepped), I dunno wether he’s too top heavy but hopefully it’s something he can work on.

We have also recruited like battle was on our list and unfortunately for him some like highmore have really played well.

Who else is glad that we have closure on the dunstan conversation? I’m ******* over it, can’t kick, won’t ever win a flag with him. Happy with any compo we get
Hasn't gone as yet. You have to wait a while
