I doubt he’s unhappy, rumours have probably just gained traction.

Most will say he’s been played out of position but he still needs to improve his game, currently looks more like a depth player then starting 22 so hopefully he has a big pre season.

More likely a case of someone repeating something often enough and it becoming fact.

Anyone see today Ross’s classic hack shot at goal which went out on the full, nearby teammate must’ve said something to him about a handball possibility and the look of genuine disdain on Ross’s face made me want to spew.

Imagine losing a selfish, arrogant liability in Ross and gaining Pendlebury for a year or two to be used in the interim/mentor Ross’s replacement. Then gain a very good assistant. May even get something back for Ross [emoji23]

IDEAL.

The Cats have been able to sell the dream of constant contention and always look one or two players off a premiership. Geelong and surf coast real estate is cheaper and suits guys from the country who want a less stressful lifestyle.

I think they said Selwood has missed one finals series in his 15 seasons. Geelong only got him because they unexpectedly missed finals in 2005. Jack Steven played for 13 seasons and never played in a final. Players come and sign on for less to be part of the dream at the Cattery. Players that come to the Saints know it's unlikely that they play finals and as a smaller club you'll never get much of a profile or outside deals so you are going to attract fringe types who just want to come for cash.

Guys like Shaun Higgins wanted one last crack at glory so he signed with them knowing he'd be every chance at eternal glory. Same with Cameron, he wanted to go where he might actually get every chance at success.

We are in a cycle of paying guys semi developed like Clark and Coffield as the finished article so that they don't run off then if they don't come on to be top flight players they have already become used to being highly paid so you off load them like we are with Billings, Seb and Dunny. It's like a poverty cycle from paying for stuff on credit. Then on top of that we tempt GOPs over to the club on superstar money.

That's why you need to draft your core. Pay them on output not potential and it can be turned around but it's a 5 year program not a quick fix.

Schenslog as a DFA.

Crazy no one took him in the MSD.

We nailed the Sharman pick but getting him as well woukd have been gold and we had the spots available.

There will be plenty of clubs interested now though.
Imagine if they went mids only [emoji15] because of all the talls we had and no need for another KPF

Hayden McLean should be priority #1 if he’s a genuine chance. Offset his cost with trade/compensation from Dunstan and Ross.

Wouldn’t be opposed to Daniel Talia either, not sure Frawley is gonna be working out.

What’s your view wrt Billings and Ross?
Not fussed losing either TBH. I don’t believe either have much impact on winning verse losing. Not overly critical to how we perform. Ross is midfield depth & consequently plays out of position. Billings is flaky & inconsistent. If we need to find a bit of cap space both suitable trades IMO.

Nathan Burke was asked (after today’s game) what St Kilda should do in the off season to improve the list.
In no particular order:
A ruck,
A key defender and,
Trade/delist Hannebery and pump as many games into Byrnes as possible.
Not that he thought Hannebery was past it, more that he would be taking games away from Byrnes. The implication being Byrnes is the future, Hannebery not.

Let’s see if Libba agrees.

Here's what is acceptable for each (i get the top 3 are FA, but that's what i'd be looking at for pick return without looking at compo):
Billings Pick 19-25
Dunstan Pick 25-30
Ross Pick 30-40
Kent Anything really
Clavarino Anything really

Ratts made it clear we’ve targeted a few players from other clubs to bring in over the coming months. Nothing ground breaking there but interesting that there’s still a desire to bring in mature talent after the last 2 years.

He also said we need to target kids so hopefully, it's a good balance of both.

I've been super critical of Libba, which bird_man and Winmar2Lockett have rightfully pointed out was a bit too early, especially given the picks he had at his disposal.

this is the first season I've seen some green shoots in that regard and tbh its given me confidence to say, i'd like to see him have a full draft hand for once.

players like Paton, Byrnes, Wilkie, Hind, Highmore and now Sharman want me to see what he can do with a full allotment.

i think we need to give him a solid crack at it and hope he can replicate those selections.

Ok season done and dusted. This how I think it does with trades. Dunstan gone. Third rounder. Ross50/50. Third rounder. Billings must stay. Can’t lose 3 regulars and hope to improve and if we do improve billings will improve. The prefect outside player is a good side. I expect us to trade in a tall back and ruck. Not expecting stars but better than hunter and Joyce. Would love an inside outside mid with pace. Cerra would be perfect buy nearly impossible. Don’t need Ben king. Happy for him to sign a long term contract. And there will be a trading of one of our players we won’t expect. Usually always is.
