Just cant see him playing in the backline, he would be 10th in waiting- forward line-NO . There are no spots for him. I cant understand why he has been signed up for a year, not even as depth.
It’s strange. He’s completely cooked & I can’t see him getting a game either. That’s why I reckon it’s cos of the soft cap. I imagine he’s signed up pretty cheap & he’ll transition to coaching after he retires. Seems the type.

Plenty on here and SS including I think Big Mart that thought that a fat diabetic that would need luck to meet expectation was a poor choice. I remember people thinking that head knocks could be an issue early on even.
Didn't care about diabetes, puppy fat and didn't even contemplate head knocks.

We needed mids did then, still do now, that was it for me.
The speil was a key forward are too hard to get and we could get mids any old time. Well both turned out to be BS. KING 4 years later and we never did pick up a bunch of quality mids, we got Steele

Was saying it 3 months before he was selected.
We needed mids and went for a speculative pick that turned out to be an injury bust.

This place was buzzing like I’d never seen it before when we were getting Petracca. Well at least on par when we were supposedly trading a cooked Sam Fisher to GWS for picks 2 & 3.

Its a worry if Ratts still cant see Battle is not a wing
Most definitely. A lot of "spaces" in his narrative as well. I am not impressed with what Ratten comes out with. Did something like this about 4-6 weeks ago. Meaningless drivel about stuff we already know about or something the club should have picked up earlier and acted upon

Mitch Cleary. Quick skim through it looks good.

Amongst other things talks Battle - and where to play him

Ratts’ contract ending end of 2022 - they’ll discuss that Feb/March… personally hope nothing is signed before at least the after the bye.
I'm hoping we don't rush it. no need to sign him before the bye and thats only if we are looking like we are play finals

True, but Martin is a different kettle of fish. A total matchwinner and big bodied. He did the grunt work regardless of his height. Probably incomparable in history for big games..ala leigh Matthews. I dont see Crouch busting packs....and Clark is not even in there yet as a permanent mid. You have to have one.
We have Steele. He’s 187cm and plays as strong as any midfielder in the comp. There’s no evidence that more bigger mids. We just need more elite mids.

I remember being excited as the general consensus had us picking up petrecca.
Then when we grabbed paddy I thought “ he’s obviously a gun and must be rated as the next plugger. He ll bring the crowds thru the turnstiles and it was gonna be fun to watch etc “
Paddy was only a couple of cms taller than petrecca though so it was def a bit puzzling.

I think it was the eastern rangers coach that said if you want the best mid in the draft pick Petracca. If you want the best forward in the draft pick Petracca. He was being spoken about as a generational player. All the headlines were that Melbourne won the draft.

Not knocking Steele but I gave evidence in my original post.
Yeah there are gun big mids in the comp. There are also gun mids who aren’t big (Neale, Lyons, Laird, Walsh, Merrett, Parish, Miller, Parker, Liberatore, Treloar, Shuey, J Kelly, T Kelly, Boak, Zorko, Mitchell, Adams, Selwood, Prestia, Edwards & plenty more).

Height in midfielders is nice, but it’s not essential to have multiple big midfielders to be a contender. Richmond didn’t, Hawthorn didn’t, West Coast didn’t. Getting enough elite midfielders is the requirement, if they are tall then it’s a nice bonus. Not saying height doesn’t matter, but there is no blueprint/example of a team where it makes it clear that multiple tall mids are needed.

Explain what impact Wallis, JUH and Sam Darcy are having for this current dogs team. And wasn't hunter not bid on until round 3?

Also claiming that drafting Coffield was the right call because you avoided draft busts is laughable. He's no better than Fogarty. It's a lot easier getting touches playing in defense. Just ask Bailey Dale. And the excuse your team passed on Naughton was the right call because you had Carlisle doesn't sit well either. I didn't realise you only need one key defender at AFL level.
Are you lost..?

we wasted a whole generation of picks on not great players, that's why we are where we are, whats the point harping on about it. IMO, it's time to get kids again, and as someone said, mids mids mids mids.

Turn not so great mids into hff's bf's, small fwds, wings

The only reason he was ‘going 1 or 2’ was because we had the first pick and our recruiters were fools.
We were obviously leaking the the info that we were going to go for McCartin otherwise there’s no way he was in the conversation of 1 or 2 by anyone who had a clue other than that the word was the saints for some reason might take him at 1

What garbage.
