Again, cap permitting, but getting Cox/Casboult might not mean we don't look at a backup primary ruck like Fort so we can persist with that two ruck structure in the event that Oscar goes down.
Even if the cap permits, the number of available list spots might not. Unless the club are willing to let go of all three of Joyce, Ballenden and Brock Smith. But we might be short on key defender depth then.

Ceglar is pretty handy up forward for a big guy. No Brad Ottens, but serviceable. I think him and Oscar aren't too far apart in terms of their forward half ability. He showed in 2016 he could play that back up role to McEvoy.
Good enough for me. I'm on board with him if he fits in the cap, then.

Ceglar should be a main ruck, Could see him going to the Dogs. Doubt he'd come here.

They'll have their work cut out for them to make it happen with an early selection expected for Darcy. Guess it depends what they get in for Lipinski, and if any other players are traded out. Should've taken the Dunkley trade last year, reckon they'll regret that one.

I don't mind Ceglar if we can afford him salary wise but if we need to give up significantly more value in picks I'd rather just go with Fort I think. Not sure what Ceglar would be worth in a trade but I wouldn't want to be giving up much more than a third rounder.

What were they offered?

In terms of missed trades didn't Melbourne offer pick 2 for Rocky a few years back or was it just rumor?

Pick 8 & 2021 2nd rounder I think was the rejected offer. Maybe holding out for two top 10's or something silly that was never going to happen.

No idea about Rocky.

Quite sure Dean Warren at the time confirmed we received and rejected that trade offer. Quite sure it was in 2013 (the "go home 5" trade period), and Rocky was All-Australian the year after.

Let's pretend it was 2014.

We missed out on Christian Petracca!

Ceglar doesent work. Unless he or Oscar are prepared to play ressies when Hipwood is back.

That's why Fort works, he is a back up ruck who can be used in hipwoods absence if we chose to.

Please spare me the hypothetical scenario where 5 talls forward of center works out, it would be at the expense of a mid/winger - we are slow enough as it is.

Should have seriously considered that pick 2 that Melbourne were offering for Rocky.
Might have been the pick they took Pettacca with?

Ceglar with Oscar would be an interesting pairing - as they are both capable at center bounce and in forward line.

My worry is Ceglar move would be at a higher price point - both salary as well as trade capital wise. Not sure if we can afford it.

If Ceglar and Oscar are having good seasons coinciding with Hipwood's return, that'll be a good problem to have in my view. We were at the other end of that scale this year and struggled badly with no second and third tall cover.

That being said, Ceglar would be too expensive trade wise compared to Fort. This will be a challenge to get done.

You would think we might have to sign him up for 3 to get him here.
So could ultimately be at the expense of a Lane or Smith or even Fullarton or Payne.

If we want Ceglar we could get it done.

I didn't watch many Hawks games this year but was Ceglar a walk-up start whenever he was fit?

He'd replace Fullarton and it'll be an upgrade right away for the next year or two.

Hawks are going to want one of our first round picks if they’re paying part of his salary.
Wherever he ends up, and whether or not the Hawks chip in $, the receiving club won’t have to cough up very much. They’re shopping around a 30yr old contracted fringe player to make extra room in their rebuild, not a 27yr old first choice ruck.

I doubt they'd be asking for a first round pick for a 30 year old ruckman even if they were paying part of his salary.

Maybe they'd ask whichever team Gubby Allen is now working for, but only in hope.
Hawthorn will be chasing top 30 picks for their rebuild.

They might look to package players plus picks to move up the draft.

Personally I wouldn’t be paying that if I were the Lions. But I’m just looking at it from the Hawks perspective if they’ve told Ceglar, Gunston, O’Meara and Mitchell they can look for new clubs.

Big call signing a 30 year old ruckman who is getting pushed out of the Hawks to a three year deal.

Looks like Ceglar has both us and Dogs as options. If we want him longer contract is the easier carrot we can offer. We have a habit of giving it too, CEY for example. I'm not saying Fullarton doesn't have scope to improve - Ceglar would be ahead of him right now / next year.

I'd be nervous giving him 3 years with Lane, Fullarton, Smith and Hipwood coming back later in the year. Ceglar might be the best this year but I wouldn't be surprised to see Fullarton and Lane overtake him by the end of the season.
