Re: COVID impact on crowds, I think it will be much bigger in WA/QLD/SATAS than VIC/NSW.

This is because NSW and especially Victoria have gone through hellish extended lockdowns with COVID spreading through the community over the past couple of years. They're relatively used to the COVID risk and prob more likely to be out at the footy after missing out for a couple of years.

For the other states (especially WA), they've largely been living normal lives so COVID in the community is a much more scary situation and more likely to have people reluctant to go to footy events.

Yeah, you could well be right. You also have to wear masks at the footy in WA (maybe in SA too?). That's a massive turnoff.

Compulsory Electronic ticketing / membership pass will be in vogue for the first time ever for Port's home game against Hawks on Saturday night. Apparently a lot of oldies are pissed off and membership department has been swamped. Will be interesting to see if or what impact it has.

How many kids arent double vaxxed (5-11 year olds) and how many not tripple vaxxed (12-15 year olds) and dont meet state or stadium covid rules so cant go to the game? Or parents arent prepared to risk them going to games?

SA mask rules appatently from crows game yesterday is have to wear a mask entering the stadium and walking around, at kiosks, bars and going to the loo, but dont have to wear them when you are in your seat.

This could be right, but you also have to remember that vic and nsw will always have the worst health outcomes when it comes to Covid so its just a wait and see with what the next few months brings.

I would also hypothesis the reason crowds are down (but TV audiences are up) is due to increased costs of living.

Besides, of course, some people losing their jobs during Covid - with some returning to the workforce in a lower paying role - others also pushed back repayments on their mortgage and are now playing catch-up.

Throw-in petrol prices at above $2 a litre and increased cost of groceries, for some going to an AFL match is a luxury they can't afford at the moment.

Have t.v. audiences actually gone up though? It's so difficult to tell now with ratings being measured across about 4 different platforms.

Looks as though single seats only left for the Sydney Geelong game, and they’ve opened up restricted viewing. Will be an interesting crowd if the predicted 20-40mm of rain comes along.

So like last year the G has gone about quietly closing off big sections for lower drawing games.

I get the business case, I understand the financial side of it and even how it looks much better having a full ground level.

This said, as a Tiger I’d much prefer to sit level 4 GA of the GSS than head down to the Ponsford. It’s just not part of our DNA.

Small change and understand the reasoning, but don’t love it!

Not too bad. Would be 40,000 on a Friday night. Would be 42-44,000 if it were a Carlton home game on a Friday night.

Interesting crowds to look at this weekend. 3 years ago Collingwood/Adelaide at the MCG on Saturday afternoon was almost a lock for 40,000+. I suspect between 32-37,000?

Richmond/GWS fascinating. Again, on a roll 3 years ago this would draw between 32-37,000. Given the Tigers shaky start, will it clear 30,000? I’m doubtful.

Ticket sales for Essendon/Brisbane are really poor. It appears last weeks performances has really shaken the confidence and patience of Essendon fans. The level headed Essendon supporters know that Essendon are still you g and inexperienced and still a couple of years away from the ascent up the ladder the media wrongly predict in 2022 based on assumption of linear progression after overachieving last season. Seems majority if Essendon people fell for the narrative and are somewhat dejected already! Anyhow, poor ticket sales with seats still selling on level 1 today is unusual for an Essendon home game which possibly points to a crowd over only 25,000-28,000. Let’s see.

Agreed. Before the game was barely any sections left to buy tickets or seats for that matter.

Something has to be done about the accessibility for fans at Marvel. So many empty seats that people cannot access.

The subject of the onward re-selling of unwanted seats has never been adequately addressed anywhere to my knowledge
but it is something of great importance that should be done for a massive gain for football, the clubs and the fans.
