I've listened to Hamish when we pick TT and I watch an interview with Taylor when Melbourne picked Jackson and one of the biggest difference I noticed was Hamish said TT had been the best performer over 3 years while Taylor said Jackson had been the biggest improver in the past 6 months.
I feel this mindset could be a major difference in drafting philosophy.
Hamish said a similar thing about Jones as to TT being the 1st time he saw him as a 15 or 16 y.o. he was so impressed vs Melbourne picking Oliver a massive riser in his draft year.

I wonder if we put enough value on the last 3-6 month form as some of the bigger bodied guys develop a bit latter like and Phillipou and Mackenzie
But then you get a Fergus Watts.

Did nothing till his last year - had a strong year and rose high.

Busted

It's why most draft picks now have a solid form line from u16s

Pick 3 firmly ours with Hawks and Essendon winning. Probably pushed out to pick 4 if Ashcroft nominates for Brisbane

You'd think that is certain as he'll otherwise end up staying in Melbourne with LOLNorf, go to Perth or Adelaide. Top 4 team your father played for and warm winters seems a no brainer.

So much tempting SA talent will be gone by our second, we must find a way to get more picks by utilising 2023 picks, turbo charge the rebuild, strike now with SA talent.

Never discount Adelaide's ability to fk themselves over by winning 4 of the next 5 and finishing with pick 7.....

While I would never discount our ability to f*** ourselves over, I would very much discount our ability to win 4 out of ANY 5 matches, let alone 4 of the next 5 based on our recent form.

I'd take that any day, we are a big chance to be trading out our first anyway, there are lots on the wish list including Rankine, Hopper, JHF.
Never underestimate the power of wins to the building team - if we won the next four that would likely mean excellent performances from our youth and team structure would be looking more set.

For the record I think we are every chance to offer him another year anyhow because he's virtually our only half decent KPF depth that's at all capable of playing AFL at a reasonable level albeit inconsistently.

I would expect that we offer him a contract

So you're suggesting we give him another contract before season end and then try to trade him? Really?
Come on man, I know you know how these things work. As long as we have an offer on the table for him, and importantly don’t delist him, then he’s not a delisted FA and if he wants to go to a particular club they have to either trade for him or risk the preseason draft.

Agree we’ll give him a contract for a back up player, maybe 2 years.

Let’s say Collingwood think McStay is too expensive and offer Berg same terms but better opportunity and a fresh start at a new club.

Berg would be mad not to explore options. He has attributes other clubs would love. His problem with us it’s one of the few areas we are well stocked and he’s fallen behind.

Methinks some posters don’t understand how the system works.

If we offer him another contract then we descend on West Lakes with pitchforks.
And our KPF depth outside of Berg is?..you know injuries and the like?

Highly unlikely a tall draftee would be AFL ready if required in their 1st season.

Well stocked?

And that is probably right in the hitting zone of phillipou so maybe not all doom and gloom😃
Won't make much difference if Phillipou is the player we want and I'd sooner be going to the Draft with pick 4 than pick 7 if he's the target.

Don't be taking too much notice of the phantom drafts, they're not the recruiters.

True that, but if we did have 7 instead of 4, then we are still going to end up with one of the top mids from this draft crop and there seem to be a number of them this year

He's the only one with no "go home" factor, 192cm and a Late December birthday.

Please dont underestimate our ability to cherry pick the worst of the lot.

Or we bring in all the old blokes for a farewell game and cost ourselves pick 1...oh wait, that was last year.

So at this stage we have picks 3 and 21.... Surely we can get two guns with this hand ? - maybe even trade up the pick 21 and next years second for a top 12~ish pick.
Tsatsas , keeler, michealanny. Thank your mother for the rabbits
