Also, would WCE be prepared to give up high end picks like they did with Kelly and damage their future like what has happened atm.A few on their board think they are getting pick 1 for Georgiades next year from WCE...until it was pointed out if WCE finish bottom, they will also have pick 1 in the PSD and will get Georgiades for free if he stays OOC by the end of next year
Going to put a way bigger hole in the salary cap than those 2 probably together where we now have Rankine, Rachele and Pedlar in a role they can all fill whilst having runs through the midfield?Probably correct but while we have McHenry, Murphy on our list I see opportunity for improvement. I don't know how much longer Crouch and McAdam will on the list. McAdam is injury prone, OOC end of 2023 and 29 at the start of 2024. Might be a good time to do a deal for him.
Surely we've spent enough draft capital on small forwards. Three first rounders in five years alreadyDon't think we need to spend heavy capital on a player like Pickett, after getting Rachele and Rankine the past two years

We need a proven KPD most of all..

Its not about the decision but the manner in which it was communicated to the player. He was brought in as a taller fringe midfielder and was one of our best SANFL midfielders by the time SANFL finals rolled around.
But you could already tell that Taylor was going to go past him in the next 12 months. Then we drafted 2 taller midfielders and weren't able to get a ruck or KPD.
It's a shame for him, but it's a no brainer for the club. We need a tall for Seed's SSP spot, not another fringe midfielder.
Maybe when we've pumped more games into the youngsters, shouldn't be drafting any more mids unless they a real point of difference midfielders. If we see it as a real need then we need to trade for a quality mid with a point of difference. We need to keep going until we have a good midfield
I think they honestly had every intention of re-drafting him... but then reality got in the way. Mike Tyson once said that "everyone has a plan, until they get punched in the face", and that's pretty much what happened to the AFC.Its not about the decision but the manner in which it was communicated to the player.
Unless we see Rachele as a midfielder long term.Don't think we need to spend heavy capital on a player like Pickett, after getting Rachele and Rankine the past two years
Four first rounders if you count Pedlar who looks much more a forward than a mid at this point.Surely we've spent enough draft capital on small forwards. Three first rounders in five years already
I will be completely fine spending our first pick every year on a mid or mid-trade until we have a Melbourne/Brisbane level midfieldMaybe when we've pumped more games into the youngsters, shouldn't be drafting any more mids unless they a real point of difference midfielders. If we see it as a real need then we need to trade for a quality mid with a point of difference.
Absolutely no doubt, Crouch goes, Turner stays ......it was experienced body out, experienced body inSounds like standard stuff from Turner. We had plans to keep him, those plans changed and he was a victim of that given his short term deal. I hate the entire idea of the MSD in general, but won't be the first nor the last time it happens.
in the next 2 years, IF we are able to make a play for them, Cox and E Hollands are the 2, get Welsh in as a F/S. There is the extra quality tall defender to go with Butts and Murray, and Hollands is that point of difference mid. I like to dream of a side that has Hollands, Rachele, a fit Pedlar, Laird and one or 2 others running through the middle..that would have speed, power and ball winning ability and some real craft at the coalfaceI will be completely fine spending our first pick every year on a mid or mid-trade until we have a Melbourne/Brisbane level midfield

Nice to see that the club has a realistic idea of where the list is at, unlike many of the club's wildly optimistic supporters. There's pretty much no chance of seeing finals action in 2023, and only marginally more in 2024.Are we making excuses all ready. Nicksy might want a contract extension to see his dream through.

There was also a chance McAsey left.Firstly, I'm absolutely certain they were planning on trading Crouch - and would have been staggered when not a single club showed any interest whatsoever. That forced the AFC to keep him on the list for another season, filling a vacancy that could have been used for Turner (with an appropriate shuffling of players between senior/rookie lists).
What was stupid - taking a mature aged player on a six month deal?So anyone who defended the Turner selection now prepared to admit the club ****ed up?
Some on here called it stupid from the beginning and had to actually debate the point
Where do I begin? What was stupid - taking a mature aged player on a six month deal?
I would have been happy to have taken Carmichael, but wouldn't we have had even bigger off season issues if we had another long term contract signed?
I think Turner was someone we were interested in as mature bodied insurance, and now circumstances have changed.
I guess we could have taken a young ruck - but wouldn't we still have needed to delist them and then sign again as a SSP?
Brown signed a long term deal when we had an experienced list though....Have you had a look at our list lately? It's not as if we have a heap of players earning big $$$. Highly doubtful that he'd be earning less than $500K - most likely somewhere in the $600-650K window.
Unless we start using Rankine & Rachele party as midfielders...Don't think we need to spend heavy capital on a player like Pickett, after getting Rachele and Rankine the past two years
Settle down, no need to make things about a personal attack on me. You asked for a response.Where do I begin?
For starters, if you’re taking a mature aged player on a 6 month contract, you don’t take an injured one
Secondly, why take a mature aged midfielder when we had Crouch as back up and young mids we are trying to develop in a rebuild?
Thirdly, we weren’t playing finals so again, why need a mature player? And if you think you need a mature player how about grabbing one with actual AFL experience if that’s what he’s there for?
As for being tight on list spots this year with limited flexibility and having a heap of out of contracted players next year actually isn’t a tick, right?
This panned out exactly as some of us who don’t blindly support the club foreshadowed. Shocked to see you still defending the clubs judgement.

Won't be time to use them there a whole lot, considering we still need to add two more bigger-bodied midfield pieces to what we already have, IMO (could be Bond/Dowling, could be someone we trade in/draft)Unless we start using Rankine & Rachele party as midfielders...
