not delisted will get rookie contract we will have plenty of rookie spots its the main spots that are thr issue
We won't have many rookie spots at all. Parnell & Murray will stay on the rookie list, and Seedsman should be moved to the rookie list (before being placed on the inactive list). Davis should be delisted, with Butts & Strachan upgraded to the senior list. That leaves just 2x rookie list vacancies, and only 1 if Turner is retained. If we go with a 38/4 list structure, as some are proposing, then it's 1x vacancy and 0 if Turner is retained. Any way you look at it, that's not "plenty".

It could literally be a choice between retaining Turner, or making a selection in the RD.

And that is why we will delist him. The AFC doesn't do that thing called common sense.
Lol, when we selected him people said it was the wrong decision, if we delist him it's the wrong decision, if we re-rookie him in the draft it's probably the wrong decision ...

From watching Geelong, Sydney and Collingwood, pressure and endurance are two of the most important traits for players to gave. As soon as there is a turnover its manic pressure and run the other way as fast as possible. Ned can make use of these traits well enough, He's relatively poor at everything else, hence why so many here have little time for him.

Spot on. It’s for this reason as well I think we’ve done well in getting players like Soligo and Zac Taylor, who appear to have a great mix of skills and two-way running

Good game of footy in the VFL Grand Final between the Southport Sharks and the Casey Demons, plenty of Demons AFL listed players and quite a few ex AFL players suiting up for the Sharks.. Former North Adelaide Junior and Port AFL listed player Boyd Woodcock among the best on the ground to this poin. should be on an AFL list. A player we had interest in Kade Chandler very good for the Demons.

Continuing to pick him despite the injuries in previous seasons wouldn't have helped him. Was never the same after that achilles injury.

And for what purpose were we prepared to risk this early career conclusion? Maybe win an extra game and avoid the 2020 spoon? Or avoid being 1 spot lower the last 2 years? We’re playing hurt players in a supposed rebuild stage.

Talia reckoned he’d have not played out 2020 if we were contending but felt he had to in a bad year. Firstly, what a crock of crap. And secondly, surely that even if implausibly true, that’s totally arse about.

I dunno. A lot of clubs have.

I suspect they are waiting for B&F

The only announcement will be Davis delisted. Rowe probably still waiting to hear if another club will take him , same with Crouch

We may yet take on a salary dump from GC or rookie list Rowe etc. so probably lots of grey areas to work through

No it doesn't with Rankine coming in we just play Lachie Murphy in Brown's role....it's what got him on our list in the 1st place.

What's more I'd be of the opinion Lachie will never be questioned again as being in our best 22 even by his detractors.

Would like to see him get a crack down back but I don’t see us doing much experimentation. I expect he’ll continue in his current role and if not selected in the 1s will play the same role in the 2s.

Please. Ned comfortably sits in that group. The only thing keeping Ned safe is the first rounder we invested in him. So far he is still not at Petrenko or Wright levels - and both were sent packing after 5 years on the list

The group was a list of players that the poster would tap on the shoulder before Ned. Logically you can add Ned to the group but he’d be the last to go of the group.

There's absolutely no reason to not go to 38/4.

Clubs take extra rookies because you get a $80k salary cap discount per rookie.

BUT you can only use that if you're using your entire salary cap, and we're miles off that.

So there's no advantage in having extra rookies for the Crows.

We were tight in 2020 which is why we couldn't handle Gibbs' payout that year, but since then we should have been frontloading like crazy. We have to spend 95% again in 2023 with a bottom 5 list, cap space shouldn't be a concern.

Good player but a bit undersized for a pure ruck at AFL level.
well i believe he was originally recruited as a key position player. would say something there to work with for a rookie spot somewhere. averaged nearly 20 touches as a ruckman and has a nice leap too.

And after all that, would you continue to play him in the same position?
On to your last point that’s just nonsense and you know it.

But ok let’s look at his strengths “tackles, chases, hits the contest hard”. You could get someone from the SANFL to do that, not a first rounder. By the way he averaged only 3 tackles a game.

His disposal has improved? That’s debatable, he still can’t kick more than 40 metres. Goal kicking? He kicked 13 goals for the year with some embarrassing attempts.

He’s just an poor to average footballer.

We delisted Riley Knight who was better, let that sink in.

Here’s a question for you, would other AFL clubs want him and what would be his trade value?

As a quick response to the above ...
  • I think Ned has upside, that is what I said ... I still believe that. He is like Sholl in that way - not well-rounded, but has potential in certain attributes that count. Will he step up? I dunno, just think he has improvement in him that the others I mentioned do not.
  • I'm not weighing in his first rounder at all. I think he deserves a spot on our list, maybe that sits outside of the best 22 next year ... maybe he sits just inside that.
  • I would not play him as a permanent small forward, no. He needs to be a small utility player that can switch into the middle, on the wing and some time up forward,
  • I believe other clubs would want him, but trade value is not a good guide to worth. Ben Brown? Peter Wright? Nakia Cockatoo?
Look, I am not arguing that he was a well spent pick when drafted ... I am saying he has some upside - could become an AFL level player - and I would not throw him out with the bathwater.

Well you made the claim some clubs would, so you are crystal balling anyway so you might as well provide some more insight as to actually who would, that’s obviously going to require you to think and admit besides maybe a couple of scrubber sides, there isn’t anyone wanting a sanfl quality footballer who is short, slow, can’t kick more than 40 and has no poise.

He just needs to significantly improve the following and he’ll be a star befitting his 1st Round draft selection.
  • speed from below to significantly above average
  • strength from poor to average
  • ground ball skills from poor to excellent
  • kicking skills from weak/poor to above average
  • ability to stick a tackle from non-existent to good
  • ability to read the play from poor to very good
  • improve overhead marking for his size from mediocre to very good
