If there’s anyone we should be targeting it should be Zac Bailey from Brisbane. Gun, has the agility like Judd in his prime. Will probably be a midfielder one day.. a very good one.

Brisbane's closer to his home town Darwin but...

We traded him in. The trade window is so small, and the coach search process was long

Pyke resigned pretty late in the season (was it already over?)

Players are courted for months before most trades. He was a low cost trade, I doubt Nicks would have complained too much.

Don't like that interview from Nicks. Most of that stuff should be kept in house.

I like the interview very very much. Was really surprised by it to be honest and you can see why the players like him.

Its open and honest. I reckon the other players would love to hear it as well. It shows that the head coach is willing to put aside his preconceived notions and give players a shot.

Nicks didn't initially rate the guy, but he has shown a willingness to give him a shot. I am sure that doesn't go unnoticed by the players on the outer.

As to them trading in Frampton, who Nicks didn't really rate. I don't think its a big deal - it was a fringe depth/development player that the Crows gave up pick 56 for.

Also - some interesting tidbits about timing of the trade in this article.

4 years. We gave him a 4 year deal.

It’s a big deal.

4 years to a player our newly appointed coach didn’t rate

3 years on a small contract for a 200cm, 22 year old.

With how shallow the AFL talent pool is, it is absolutely nothing to get worked up about especially considering the state of our list.

Incorrect.
Adelaide is closer.
It is, but not by any meaningful distance. We're still talking about a 3-4 hour flight, regardless of whether he's in Brisbane or Adelaide.

For me, a few extra minutes tacked onto the end of a long plane flight isn't meaningful. If the options were a 1-2 hour drive, vs the long plane flight, then that would be meaningful.

Australia is a big country, with huge distances between our capital cities. In this context, a meaningful difference in distance is one where travel times are significantly shorter, and/or travel options are more flexible. For example, if the options are a 3-4 hour drive, vs a 3-4 hour flight, the drive wins because everyone has a car, and they can leave at any time; in contrast, there may be only a few flights per day, and the flights are more expensive. That's a meaningful difference. In contrast, the difference between a 3hr 30min flight, and a 3hr 45min flight, is not meaningful.

Historically Darwin had closer ties to Adelaide, because the NT was administered by SA until it gained independence in the 1970s. I'm not sure that those ties are terribly binding on someone like Bailey.

So you're saying SA should take over the NT again?

Pretty bold first 100 days in leadership from Malinauskas to get rid of the masks and then lead a Putin style takeover of our nearest neighbour but if that's what it takes to make the Crows a destination club, I'm all for it

I was pretty sure it was 4. Can’t find much on that, or any quality sources. Just something on Roar and that’s not reliable either way

Could be wrong, have you got anything proper on that score?

Its 3. The SEN article lists it as 3. Footywire has him out of contract at the end of 2022.

Hey Gang , Safe and Sound AKA Shadey P just saying a quick g'day .
Lost my account details but happy for a fresh start and to quite frankly just to be able to type this . It has been quite the ride.

Hope all are well !

Of course Vale to the great man Deaneus .... kept in the loop and worked my way through the thread a few times and shed many a tear and a laugh as most would have .

Catch you all soon for some real footy talk . ✌️

Also this. Apparently a two-year deal with triggers for a third year, that must’ve been met

iirc he still had a year to run on his Port contract. Given we were effectively poaching him we had to offer him a bit more than purely greater opportunity. It wasn't as if we rated him highly and offered him more on that basis.

At least that's how I read the situation at the time, I don't have any intel.
