How do we have press release and not stipulate the term?
incompetence maybe?

it sort of alludes to a 1 year contract but doesnt actually say it.

I’m happy for em to give him 1 year with easy triggers for another year after it..

he was never gonna uproot his young family and move them interstate for 1 extra year of football so its good to see the club didnt fall for that BS that wouldve been orchestrated by his manager leaking it to the media..

Tex signs on, it doesn’t explicitly say it but I suspect one year
Seems odd that they didn't specify the contract length. Are they trying to hide that we signed him for 2 years?

One year seems fair.

Seems to be the one year, ie 16th season. If it was two wouldn't they make mention of a 17th season?

Just a creative way of saying one year.

yep.. but is it really too flipping hard for them to just say “1 year”??..

Teams that win flags, bat deep in the midfield.

Youre correct. We need to replace all 3. We have no midfielders whatsoever, let alone depth.

I think we have the depth building. Berry, Schoenberg, Soligo Rachelle to pinch hit. Hopefully Pedlar does come good. Laird and Keays or Crouch as depth
We lack the gun or two in there

Personally I would try and trade Keays if we could get a second for him or package him with a pick to move up the draft

Would only be enough to move up to the 9 to 12 bracket as there are far too many other wesknesses

I think our weaknesses are magnified by our lack of balance. We struggle to contain key forwards, our midfield mix has been well discussed and we desperately need a quality small forward. Add Steven May, Charlie Cameron and Clayton Oliver to our team and that would cover a lot of our weaknesses to be top 8 competitive - we need a bit more for a top 4 spot

Crouch (contracted)
Worrell (contracted)
Sholl (contracted)
Strachan (contracted)
Seedsman (contracted) - retired

Can easily see up to 5 contracted players leaving at season's end.

Then there is,

Rowe (uncontracted)?
Himmelberg (uncontracted)?
Frampton (uncontracted)?
Turner (uncontracted) likely gets another year

If we're replacing all these guys with draft picks, they ain't gonna be early picks. Pretty depressing stuff.

Personally think we will have minimal changes 5 max

id piss laird back off to half back..

move crouch on for a bag of stale chips to any club that wants him.. if no one does.. play him in the sanfl as a “top up” player..

Keep keays in the middle but with the ultimate goal of replacing him as soon as possible and getting him out of the side altogether.

If JHF becomes a chance at all we need to go all in for him.

If Dunkley is looking to move to Adelaide we need to move mountains there too but use our ladder position (and the PSD) to threaten the Bullies and try and get him cheaper.. cheaper than we paid for Dawson. an early second maybe.

The talk of Tex leaving was absolutely laughable. Was never, ever, ever going to happen

Of all the rubbish they try and peddle, that was the most ridiculous. Never a chance of him leaving, and playing like he is we were always offering at least 1 year.

And here is a guy in Tex that we should be very much wanting at the club when he hangs up his boots be that at the end of next year or whenever. He should be offered the role as a full time skills coach as there are few better field kicks and shots for goal out there. We have a dire need for improvement in that area.

isnt the rule in the sanfl now that we can bring our retired AFL players straight into our SANFL side to play as top ups with no restrictions?..

i’d love nothing more than to see Tex after he retires from AFL level to drop straight back to the SANFL team for a couple of years to be an on field player coach to help develop and direct the kids..

he’s clearly loved by the younger players around the club.

We should not be investing anything in a small forward at the moment given how Nicks wants to use them. An absolute waste of draft/trade capital to spend anything on that position.

I'm not sure Dunkley is really what we need.

Yes, he's 190cm plus, but his K:HB ratio and DE% are both worse than Laird and Keays.

We need some good ball users with speed, not accumulators who aren't great kicks. We already have a few of them.

yeah, that would be a really good option if it could happen as he could certainly mentor the youngsters. I mean he is still defacto our captain on the field in the main side now

Great news - 1 year deals from now on and ends his career as Crow.

Imagine him in another guernsey [emoji2961]

He is still in our best few players.

Love the big Tex.

TBH the 1 year contracts seem to be good for Tex's footy as well. He probably earned a 2 year, but the contract year seems to drive him to another level both physically and mentally (not to mention i'd imagine it would be a pretty high dollar figure for next season).

I suspect we will be having this conversation again in 12 months from now. Which is good, because if we are, then it means his form is still good enough for the conversation to be had.
