I'm glad you're not in list management...get rid of more experience and bring in 3 young players and expect to be competitive. Nup.
Mutineer, everyone is entitled to their opinion. My rationale is that none of Sloane, Walker or Seedsman are going to be part of the Crows next premiership tilt and we need to get games into youth. Seedsman hasn't played all year and may not play again depending on his concussion. Seedsman can always play a part from an off-field leadership/mentor perspective with the younger Crows players depending on his health and what he wants to do moving forward. Sloane hasn't played for most of the year with his ACL and is also more than capable of playing an off-field leadership/mentor role. Walker is still a strong presence but I believe with another year of development Fogarty and Thilthorpe will be able fill the leadership void in the forward line on the ground with Walker still involved as a forward development coach from 2024.

I also believe that Dawson, Doedee, Smith, Fogarty, Keays, Berry and Thilthorpe are more than capable of forming the core of the leadership group moving forward from 2023.

I couldn’t give a toss what posters on here thought, I’m talking about the choice Hamish made. The fact Mutineer thought predraft that Serong would be a good choice and yet Hamish still *ed it up, proves my point, Hamish *ed up.
Serong and Chapman instead of McAsey and Pedlar, and we're laughing.

The leadership group I would like to see moving forward is Dawson, Laird, Berry, Soligo, Fogarty, Doedee. Obviously other players may move into the group once their output and leadership warrants inclusion.

From that list the only players I would recontract are Worrell, McAdam, Butts, Doedee, Fogarty, Murray, Strachan and Hately. The rest I would be looking to trade, delist or in the case of Sloane, Walker and Seedsman respectfully retire. Of the 2022 out of contract players I would be looking to trade or delist Rowe, Davis, Frampton, Newchurch, Borlase and Turner. Of the players contracted until 2023 I would be looking to trade McAsey, Crouch, Jones, Schoenberg and Murphy this year.

I would also not be trading for Izak Rankine as we already have 16 sub 6 foot players on our list with Rachele, McAdam, McHenry, Rowe, Pedlar, Newchurch and Milera capable of performing that small forward role. Instead I would be using our first round draft pick on Mattaes Phillipou who is 192cm powerfully built midfielder/forward who has speed, strength, power and plays similar to Marcus Bontempelli / Scott Pendlebury. I would then be looking to use our second pick on one of Henry Hustwaite, Reuben Ginbey or Issac Keeler and use one of our later picks or rookie picks on Kane Bevan. Given 2 years to develop, a Crows midfield of Phillipou, Hustwaite and Bevan would not be getting pushed around and bullied like our current midfield does against bigger bodied opposition.
Did you deliberately leave out Schoenberg?

I'm fairly sure that Max Michalanney will be bid on and taken by the Crows with their second pick. They will also probably upgrade Butts and Murray.
Butts & Strachan have already maxxed out their time on the rookie list, and need to be upgraded. Murray has another year before he hits the time limit, so he's a lower priority for upgrading.

Not sure what happens with Strachan to be honest. He's good backup, but he's never going to be the lead.
Does a player like that end up on the main list? Unsure.

Did you deliberately leave out Schoenberg?
My thoughts on Schoenberg are that I would trade him. To my mind you can't play Laird, Berry, Soligo, Jones, McHenry, Crouch, Schoenberg, Rowe, Parnell, Pedlar, Sloane and Murphy in the same team as the structure becomes too small and too slow, with the Crows midfield getting destroyed by bigger bodied opposition most weeks. I would actually look to trade or delist Jones, McHenry, Crouch, Schoenberg, Rowe, Pedlar and Murphy as soon as possible to get some bigger bodied forward / midfielders like Bontempelli, Dunkley, Macrae, Pendlebury, Dangerfield, Fyfe, Cripps and Kennedy who are able to win the contested ball, break free to the outside and use their strength, run and carry to either kick goals themselves or deliver the ball to teammates in a position to kick goals. Additionally they have the size, speed, strength and endurance to run back the other way to intercept opposition forays into attack.

If I was the Crows I would be looking to recruit Dunkley, Poulter, Collier-Dawkins, Rosman and Blakely throughout the trade period this year. As I have mentioned previously I would recruit Phillipou, Hustwaite and Bevan through the draft. With Dawson, Keays, Hinge, Cook, Berry and Soligo, this would form the core of the Crows midfield rotation for the next 5-7 years. The Crows have Doedee, Butts, Murray and Worrell as KPD's, Fogarty, Thilthorpe, Himmelberg and for now Walker as KPF's, Laird, Parnell, Smith as general defenders and Rachele, McAdam, Milera, Newchurch and Gollant as the small to medium forwards. The potential team structure could look like this:

Back - Laird, Butts, Doedee
H/Back - Smith, Worrell, Blakely
Mid - Dawson, Dunkley, Hustwaite
H/Fwd - Phillipou, Thilthorpe, Poulter
Fwd - Rachele, Fogarty, Walker
Ruck - O'Brien, Keays, Berry
I/Change - McAdam, Collier-Dawkins, Bevan, Hinge

Emerg - Parnell, Soligo, Himmelberg, Murray

The players I would be trading, delisting or retiring over the next 2 years would include Jones, McHenry, Crouch, Schoenberg, Pedlar, Murphy, Frampton, McAsey, Seedsman, Sloane, Walker, Sholl, Davis, Turner, McPherson, Hamill and Brown. I would also be looking to recruit and develop 2 x KPD's, 2 x KPF's and 1 x ruck over the next 2 years.

If you cant play shoey because of the list of players you named..

Then you **** off one or two of sloane, crouch, murphy and mchenry..

Because shoey is more promising even though he’s had a bad year (he’s been better in the past few weeks mind you).

Sloane is cooked and shouldnt be prioritised over anyone.
Crouch is shit
Murphy and mchenry arent better than shoey when he’s on..

Imagine losing a young talent to accomodate a finished Sloane for a year. We are in bizarro world.

Do you think they'll go the delist, re rookie route or can you only do that if the player is on the senior list?

not sure about the rules on that
I think they can go down that path, though it gets messy if another club drafts him before we get to him in the RD. I'm about 80% certain. It's definitely complicated by the fact that he's contracted.

They can... but I don't think they'll go down that path. I would be very surprised if he's not on our senior list next year.

Schoey has all the potential to be a very good to elite midfielder. He may be on the shorter side but he’s not small, and certainly not slow.

He has a very good inside and outside game, is a pretty good kick, and has the ability to burst out of stoppages with run and carry.

If you have someone with that level of talent you don’t get rid of them, even if you think they might be surplus to your needs.

No disrespect intended, but that team is SUBSTANTIALLY worse that the one that will run out this weekend.

We shouldn't still be in the "tear down" part of the rebuild ...
