mcasey issue is not talent something else going on there

I agree, particularly the last 3 years, Schoenberg, Keays, Hinge, Thilthorpe, Pedlar, Berry, Rachele, Dawson, Rankine, Soligo. With the exception of the McAsey pick we’ve recruited very well IMO.

Even with McAsey, I can see why we picked him. The physical attributes are there, he just doesn’t seem to have it between the ears.

How is that not part of the process though? I get that he was a teenager at the time and they are positively glum at the best of times but surely there must've been a red flag or two at the time that something was off.

Keays wasn't kicked out of the midfield.

We rested him forward when he was injured.

Laird, berry, soligo, schoenberg, taylor, pick 6 if we still have it etc will be all before him.

In the forward line there's fogarty, tex, thithorpe, mcadam, rachelle, rankine.

What happened to Jez McLennan? From memory, the Suns traded up to get him. Hasn’t fired a shot.

It’s definitely a part of the process, but I think it’s incredibly hard to judge that kind of thing. It’s pretty understandable to take the punt if a guy has all the physical attributes to be great.

However, I do think that he is evidence of why you should draft for talent, not for need. I remember we picked him because he was seen as the best KPD in the draft, when we could’ve potentially ended up with Serong.

Poulters decision making with ball in hand makes Ben Keays look more like Scott Pendlebury. He would soon become the new whipping boy. There is a reason why Collingwood have not used him this year.

Plays half back and couldn’t get in with Weller and Buderick going down so it doesn’t bode to well for him I reckon.

In fairness Collingwood have had a great year and breaking into that side would be very hard. His style of play from what i have seen is similar to Worrall.

Hawthorn also drafted Luke Hodge, Jarryd Roughead, Lance Franklin and Jordan Lewis with picks 1, 2, 5 and 7...

Cyril says high as well along with Birchall, Smith, Croad, McPharlin, Hill, Brown, Mitchell, not all high draft picks but made it easier to top up.

For those that need a refresher - we gave pick 19 to Carlton who wanted Stocker, we got Carlton's 2019 first that amazingly turned out to be pick 3, became pick 4 with the GC PP, we traded it to GWS for pick 6, then wasted it on McAsey who's a bust. Lose/lose trade!

For those wringing their hands about giving pick 6 for Rankine - don't, draft picks are over rated against proven high talent. It's what Clarko successfully did at the Hawks to win those flags.

The club who traded Croad and McPharlin for pick 1 is bit of a contradiction considering no-one has dared to trade it since.
It was partly Clarkson undoing in the end, last 5 or 6 years Wingard, Mitchell, O'Meara then heaps of cooked spuds Patton, Scully, Hartigan, Phillips, Frost, Vickery, Henderson, Impey, Schrimshaw and theres a few others

Geelong have done it better than Clarkson

So after hints and comments from the club, it's becoming increasingly clear that only Rankine is a likely trade, all others we are not in the running. Pity as Hopper would have been good

It’s quite likely all over for Luke brown. Reckon he’s played injured the last 3-4 years. Must be doubts as to whether he can get back to being in hampered over a full season.
