Anyone else receive a random unexpected direct debit from the club?
I received a letter from the club a couple of weeks ago stating the 2022 membership would be processed on 15 October.

The direct debit from the club occurred today so not really a surprise. Did you not receive the letter from the club ?

I didn’t get the letter and yesterday had $440 unexpectedly taken out.

Just rang the club to renew my little fam, spoke to the cruisey Charlie Curnow. Very good that the club has players on the line doing it.

Made my day!

So my wife saw an unexpected debit on her credit card after an unexpected mail from the club stating her membership was on its way. She was the recipient of a free membership from last year. Somehow the club got her credit card details, assuming this was from when she payed the $1 to upgrade the membership so she could book tickets with mine and the kids one. But in no way was this an authorisation for them to perform additional charges at will. She's a Melbourne supporter and had no intention of renewing the free membership. Nor did she receive any communication regarding this. Club will be getting an interesting call from us tomorrow demanding a refund.

I'm sure there will be a few unhappy about their freebie from last year converting into a full price privilege this year. Was the centrepiece strategy behind Liddles continued growth in membership numbers.

The freebie wasn't a freebie though. It was something the club offered for not being able to attend games and sticking with them the next year. Mind you the club also promised a so called members event as well that they have conveniently forgot of. Unless that event was supposed to be the vote that got postponed lol.
That said, a one off free membership shouldn't come with some implication that they can auto renew you and charge credit cards etc without consent.

The freebie was a growth strategy wrapped up as a goodwill gesture. I'm sure there are quite a few people who just took it up because other members encouraged them, rather than being interested in becoming a member. I wasn't a big fan of the strategy, though our numbers looked good at the end of the year.

I had a free membership was a free one off a friend who received as a part of a paid membership package.
I've received a message saying I've been renewed, they don't have my card details so I havnt lost any money... maybe I should message my mate see if he got charged 🤔

Not sure if it's the correct thread... Starting membership numbers for 2022 already near 53,000 members. Don't know what numbers at this time last year, but I reckon we can still see a record again this coming year.

New thread for 2022 is up Rev ...
