Teaching a skill is very different from coaching a team. No one asked him to coach the team.

Its not so much about Lloyd, its the principle of the club refusing to accept that some sort of outside help could possibly be helpful and that maybe they don’t have all the answers.

Roughhead was a great forward, no doubt, but if he’s been the one tasked to help Max, it’s obviously not working.
Precisely. Don’t know why that’s so hard to comprehend for some.

I believe Lloyd came in for the 2016 season as specialist coach (or teacher if you wish) to fix Joe Daniher's kicking ... resulting in a 43.32 season.

King is on 47.36 with Jarryd Roughead as specialist consultant. Not great, but not that bad to go listen to all these former players who need to create media headlines.

Don't know why that's so hard to comprehend for some.

(but I do comprehend again why I stopped reading and posting here... have fun, all)

I think the biggest problem is, that when our season is on the line. When we have to win to play finals.. We have Max missing some very very gettable goals with a poor kicking technique. Okay so King has kicked a lot (comparatively) of goals this year.. But when it's all on the line he can't kick straight.
The team has had a couple of years to address his goal kicking, but hasn't managed it.

When people think about Mathew Lloyd, pretty much everyone thinks about his pre-goalkicking routine. There is a reason why he was such a successful forward, and I think it's insane that the club wouldn't let Max get some pointers from him. Especially since Max is the one who asked him for help - not the other way around.

Why would Max ask a third party for help if he was getting all the help he needs from the club? Doesn't make sense to me.

Rattens pig-headedness in the matter may well have cost us a spot in the finals this year.

If Matthew Lloyd was any good at coaching, he’d be a senior coach by now, wouldn’t you think ?

The issue with King is less his technique, but more his fragile head. He has the talent to be a very good forward but appears to not have the mindset to be a great forward, he doesn’t really tackle or chase and shows little to no winning attitude, he hangs his head very quickly and asking for his school coach (Lloyd) may indicate that he feels uncomfortable in the tough grown up AFL world.

He will (hopefully) grow into his role with us supporters and he himself accepting that he alone will not be our saviour, but (hopefully) will be an important part of our future success.

And please … show some respect to Jarryd Roughead, not only a great forward himself but also (unlike others mentioned that King should seek help from) a great person with empathy and true willingness to coach without mainly wanting to be in the spotlight himself.

Nothing wrong with the coaching, give King some time and cuddles and move him around if need be (be it as a defender to gain confidence of some cheap marks and possessions) or even in the VFL to demonstrate that we’re more than Max King and a few other players.

You'd have to be an idiot to coach, he'd get paid more in the media, less work, less pressure and longer tenure.

Did it not work last year? What happened there

Very depressing that list profile that he put up

agreed with trading a couple out and the Port example was a good one
Problem is going to be who wants them, and how much we’ll get for them?
realistically who has some value…..Hill, Jones, Butler, Gresh 😳? No one wanted Billings last season.

Need to keep Crouch and Higgins imo.

Hopefully North for Hill
Gresh will get us a 1st rounder if they go down that path

Makes you wonder what the list management has been doing with the profile he put up

Lucky to get a first rounder for Gresh unfortunately with his injury history.

Appears they have totally misread where we are as a list. A lot of the mid age trades have been trying to fix historical issues - probably started as far back as Ross. He drafted for the here and now.

Think Joeys right. Need to reset our expectations because we’re going to have to go back a bit before we start going forward again. But spending years mid table in no man’s land is not going to help.

Not sure we’ll be going much further back than 10th spot.
What does reset even mean? I think there’s a lot of media speak that gets thrown around that doesn’t have much real content or meaning tbh.

No problems with Joey he is a media person now, but what was he saying when we were 8-3 or even after the Geelong game earlier in the year, he & Rooey had nothing but praise even tipped us for a sneaky top 4 i say Jog on Joey, we ar maybe 2-3 players away from making the top 4.

Season is 23 rounds and we are 11-11 and miles of it, I found the list profile they put as a huge concern many thought we we were only a couple of players away when we got Hill - Howard-Ryder-Jones - Crouch
Who are the players 22 & under we are bringing through? King - Windhager- Owens- Sharman - NWM that’s it it’s a empty cabinet

First of all how many do you want in the side, secondly we have players on our list that are 23 & under not mentioned.

Coffield,Milera,Clarke*,Byrnes,Higgins*,Bytel,Battle*,Patton*,Connerly * 23 years old all plaed senior footy & still on list so jury's still out on some.

Heath,Allison,Adams all unproven but still under 21

What was the issue that Joey raised with the list profile?

I look at our team and I don't see too many old guys, and we have just blooded three 18 year olds that look like locks for the next decade.

I would hope we draft another 4-5 x 18-year-olds this draft like we did last one.

We don't have a lot of older players but we also don't have that many really young ones our list is pretty mature without being old.

I agree, adding youth at the moment is a good approach. For all the bad luck we've had and we have had quite a bit (eg no father sons, Paddy concussion) it looks like we've finally had some with the NGA kids.

If we could add another good crop this draft that means we'll have a nice looking group of kids going forward.

Could be wrong but haven't the past few years been an attempt to re-balance our list? I recall we found ourselves with a fairly 'hollow' list with a lack of core players in their mid-20s - so we traded in to fill that demographic with a bit more quality and then refocussed on the draft.

Yeah I think that seems right. You can replenish with kids quite quickly too but need to draft well obviously.

We must continue to build around King. There is also a probable gap from 2019-2020 that makes it extra critical.
