So we won a flag with 2 key forwards that are so bad that there are literally a ~hundred better players playing in the state leagues.Avoiding? I've answered this question a hundred times already. I would've gone to the draft. I would say the majority of key forwards in the first 2 rounds are currently already better than Ben Brown. Cadman, Jefferson, Max Gruzewski etc. And not just a little bit better. Throw into the mix there is probably 100 mature age draftees in the vfl and country leagues that are currently much better than what we have.
Now this is only after we've thrown heaven and earth to get Georgiadis (who I see as a good up and comer that hasn't hit his potential yet) and I would've gone super hard for Zurhaar also. If we're throwing 1.1m a year at Grundy (yes, it's 1.1m a season if he plays for 3 more seasons) then I'd happily throw 850+ at Zurhaar etc. to get the job done. If all else fails, hit the draft. Either way, I'm improving the team. You say Gunston was 'always going to Brisbane'. Well if you offer Gunston a million dollars a season (I'm not recommending this) then he becomes a demon. So if a club really wants a player they can make it happen by over paying. But overpaying is subjective.
You say 'powerful, contested marking forward'. I'm not saying there's one out there but I can assure you that there are many players that are better than our existing key forward group. And not just to single out Brown. It goes for Mcdonald too.

Gotta agree with this. Tigers, Cats, Lions, Port, Crows, Freo all in the ears of gun young players and get them on board. We should have known Dogga was going to leave, or at least maybe covered all bases, got in Young or Serongs ear. Maybe we did,who knows, but the only ear we got in was Grundys and I'm still not convinced we really need him or if he's even got any decent footy ahead of him with injury concerns and form lines.I'm with Danster, I don't wanna hear any "but who was available?" baloney, no one is available until you get in their ear and say "come be a legend, win many flags, get more money, endorsements, meet the most beautiful men/women on the planet who will faint at the sight of you just because you're wearing beautiful red and royal blue Melbourne Demons colours, the best sex you ever had and sports cars and premiership glory, we promise!"
Everyone wants to be a Dee, you just gotta convince them, forget this contract s**t.
stEdyMy opinion on Ben Brown has never changed. He was much better in 2021. But still just ok. Nothing remarkable. The end comes quickly for many players and for Brown he's gone from average to horrendous overnight. It's also foolish to use data from 2 seasons ago when we've just had 6 months of relevant football to look at and it should be pretty clear that Brown is a vfl calibre player, at best. Quite possibly vfl reserves. I honestly believe that, I'm not being facetious.
I’m warming up, DaemonVeil is firmly stapled on for some posters here.
We actually haven't seen any trades yet, just speculation. Save the melts for when there is something to melt about.

Still just a rumour mateJackson's leaving? Wow. Disappointing.
Wait, so North lose pick 1 and a 1st year player they took at pick 1,View attachment 1531766
Not a terrible deal for North on first glance, but gee, trading out two consecutive Pick 1's in the one deal is gonna be a hard sell
Only to dumb supporters, tbh. JHF wants out and now they get an extra early pick for dropping down a slot whilst still getting just about what they paid for himNot a terrible deal for North on first glance, but gee, trading out two consecutive Pick 1's in the one deal is gonna be a hard sell

Yep it's shit but unfortunately he wanted to go home and that's what we had to deal with. Rankine also wanted to go home and Gold Coast get 5 for him because Adelaide have that pick. Admittedly they only get a future 3rd and 4th and we get a future 1st and second which we don't know how that could look. Hopefully Dockers have a Melbourne 2019 and finish bottom 5. Ideally would prefer if Jackson would stay and we wouldn't need to chase Grundy but it is what is. I don't think we should shy away from non Victorian players, but it does feel the go home factor is stronger now than what it has been in the past. It's natural to over value your own players I guess, but I really do feel flat about the Jackson deal.
Pick 3, we put 50+ games into a (barely) 21 year old tall, rising star winner, premisership player..
Anyway looking forward now - getting it done today does feel like we have some more business planned.
I wouldnt have a problem if we moved pick 13 in a bid to move further up the order next year, but that doesnt seem to be our style whilst we are higher on the ladder. My intel is that we like Sheezel, Clark and Cadman in this years draft but we'd probably need pick 7 or better to get any of them.
Any future first round picks we have to do due diligence and weed out the mummy's boys. Happy for the older blokes starting families etc who've served clubs well to head home, but these young fellas fn off early is hard to stomach.Yep it's s**t but unfortunately he wanted to go home and that's what we had to deal with. These blokes are so dumb, it could be a question on a bit of paper with a tick this box if you miss mummy when you are apart from her for more than a few weeks. Not sure how you anticipate mummy-boy-itis
i hate him'It felt right': Mid-season meeting sealed Jackson's desired move - 'It felt right': Mid-season meeting sealed Jackson's desired move
Mid season tampering?
Not that I really care but * he is a soft campaigner. Be your own man you mummy's boy mo fo

His openness to West Coast always seemed a bit of a ruse'It felt right': Mid-season meeting sealed Jackson's desired move - 'It felt right': Mid-season meeting sealed Jackson's desired move

Doesn’t exactly answer the question of why an adult person would boo at him thoughIn this context? Which of the below statements do you disagree with:
- Jackson didn't even offer a statement to the dees fans or the club for thanking us for anything. Some sort of acknowledgement would've been good.
- Jackson mentally checked out half way through the season and diminished his trade value each and every week.
- Jackson was dishonest during the draft process. Clearly he was a massive flight risk.
