Heard from a very good source a couple of years ago that we always found it really hard to do deals because we never held much currency in demand. Circa 2019 as we went down the ladder the phone started ringing.

This year we're in the position of holding some wanted resources - #1, JHF - in a seller's market.

This could really set things up for us if we play smart.
Yep it's been the bane of this club for a very long time.
Others are trading their fringe players for 2nds and 3rd and we've been delisting ours because they're no good.

Right so Kelly and change for pick One!!

Maybe now is the time that Joshy will come to us as every other ****er he thought would stay around bailed one after the other, there is no loyalty there Josh just tell em you want out to Dads old team 😎

Possible elements to make up a trade from our pov mentioned in the media so far.

Draft Picks:
2022 #2 (WC)
2022 #8 (PA)
2023 R1 (PA)

Players:
Tier 1
Butters
Houston (to WC)
Georgiades (to WC)

Tier 2
Sinn
Bergman

Tier 3
Duursma
Bonner

For mine the minimum return is 2022 pick + 2023 pick from that group + an additional R2 selection preferably for 2023.

eg 2022 #2 + 2023 R1 + 2023 R2 (don't care whose)

The fine details of the trade would depend on the player tier. Fwiw I would pass on the tier 3 guys as would most on here it seems.

Not enough mate.

Would need Sinn or Bergman instead of R2 next year.

Just got this scenario faxed to me by Joyce.

Trade 1.
North: Callaghan (we were keen on him last year), pick 3, pick 15
GWS: Pick 1, F2

Trade 2.
North: Butters, pick 2 (i don't care how they get it from WC), PA F1
Poort: JHF

Trade 3.
North: Clarke, F2
Aints: pick 15, F3

Draft.
The player GWS were keen on...Wardlaw...because Hopper and Taranto have left.
North: Cadman + Sheezel

End result.
North: Callaghan, Butters, Clarke, Cadman, Sheezel, PA F1, STK F2
Out: JHF, 2, 3, F2, F3

No way GWS give up Callaghan for that. They rate him very very highly. Wait until he gets his foot issue right.

I don't think freeing up a F2 is going to solve this on it's own. PA played in prelims in 2020 and 2021, if they return there next year, that F2 is 33-36.

I don't think 8, F1, F2 directly with us gets it done.

The three-way trade with WC, needed more from PA to both us and WC, so one F2 doesn't solve that either.

Regardless, are there any extenuating circumstances as to why there would be an exception to the rules here? If PA are trying to bring in more value than they have in available draft collateral, surely they have to free up more collateral by trading out players?

Port absolutely kidding themselves trying to get JHF without giving up anything of substance. Amateur hour.
Their board has some hilarious posts listing all these previous trades with picks only. Apparently now that they want something they are being forced to trade a player because of vicbias.
You want last years contracted #1, a couple of spuds on the side and your best picks are mediocre, but you don't want to give up one decent asset?

I'm so tempted to pick out the shitty posts on their board and roast them

Several AFL clubs are hoping they can go against the rules on trading future picks and send out their 2023 selections to unlock deals.

AFL Media’s Cal Twomey reports the league could give exemptions meaning teams, who are currently restricted by the rule which states you must use at least one first-round pick across a four-year period - and ideally two.

For example West Coast would need an exemption to trade out a first-round pick having only made one first-round pick in the last four years.

“Clubs are looking to see if there are provisions within rules that could allow them to trade out their future first and second-round picks to unlock deals,” he wrote.

“Exemptions are allowed in the ‘two first-rounders in four years’ rule. Could shape a few of the big deals to come.”

Port getting desperate because it effects us rules will be bent , I actually hope they do all this work and we tell them no still.
