I don't want Bowes, can we just concentrate on fixing our midfield once and for all.

Feels like a few years ago when we just keep on loading up on half back flankers, please can we just load up on options for our midfield.

We just make the same mistakes time and time again, the Ratten re-signing midseason and football department promotions based on completely nothing really indicates that we never learn.

Bowes is the bonus that would lessen the loss of Long/Clark/Hill off of HB. The prize is pick 7. Pick 7 and 9 give you two shots at getting a top end midfielder or the chance to move up high enough to get one if you think you need to. That is the race we are jumping out of early. Which is increadibly silly.

Sure, they may do worse, but he’s got them playing hungry, disciplined footy with a sense of purpose and some young stars.

Are we anywhere near that?
Yeah, this year.
If they win about 50 percent of their close games, which I assume would be usual they'll be missing the final eight.
Let's see how hungry and disciplined they are then.
He is the most untested coach in the league. Literally nothing has gone wrong for him.
I agree they played better footy than us the season gone.

What are the chances that we pull out the race for Bowes because we need the money to chase Degoey, and then he decides to stay at Collingwood
Think we would have enough for both wouldnt we?

Long plus 27 for Bowes and 7.

DeGoey a real longshot right now anyway.

Amongst all this chatter from the media about DeGoey needing to sign the contract because it’s the right thing by Collingwood, we’re forgetting one thing.
He’s a human being. Regardless of the money, if the clauses in the contract mean he won’t be happy, then why should he sign anything?

Off topic, slightly. I always jump on here around the trade period. Any posters still connected to the club much? Stav and MG used to share useful information. Wasn't sure if MG was still around, or whether you're still connected a little stavro#4.

Stavro is around regularly. MG I hadn't seen until he liked your post!
Shame he doesn't seem to post anymore.

Maybe if the pic was bigger i could LOL
Just a state of the art stadium funded by political donations where Geelong get to play home games. Frankston wasn’t going to work in the same way and imo wouldn’t have been any better than Seaford. There are loads of gun players produced by the dragons, chargers etc. imo we should focus on drafting and luring home local kids where the bayside lifestyle actually means something to them. Oh and get those eyes tested captain🤣🤣

After the way they treated Adam Treloar, I dont blame DeGoey for being careful about any clauses in his contract that would allow them to kick him to the curb if it suits them

In MG's words (not exact as he can speak for himself if he wants) he will rarely post on the forum because of the type of people and views held. Take that FWIW.

Cheap shot

Craig MCrae took Collingwood from hot favourites for the spoon to a a top 4 preliminary finalist who missed out on a GF by a solitary point. People think he has a King Midas touch about him with all the unexpected winning. However, Collingwood expectations have now been readjusted and they will be expecting nothing short of a 1-6 finish and finals wins, built on wins over mid to low table teams like the Saints. When they start to cop some unexpected losses next year, and if the Pies season flounders, the narrative around McRae and the Pies will change, and the internal second guessing will resume.

I'm tipping the honeymoon period for McRae, while spectacular, has finished.

"St Kilda out of the race for the Jack Bowes pick 7 salary dump"

"
The deal that will get Rankine to Adelaide. St Kilda considered the Jack Bowes deal to accept pick 7 and absorb his $500K plus salary for the next two years but won’t be a taker. Dons have so much cap space. Surely in a strong position."

From the trade thread
Ralph says Bowes is on 850k x 2 years, but the quote underneath says he is on 500k plus.

Shows how many darts the journo's throw and make stuff up.

Surely that’s the by product of a forum like this - different types of people and differing views.

It’s a shame, because I enjoyed his input.

I'm pretty sure not knowing the details of the Bowes deal and no insight into the possible implications for other deals or ongoing list management would be relevant.
I think we've been told enough of the situation to see it's a missed opportunity for the club.

1. We are looking at getting back into the draft this year
2. GC are willing to use pick 7 as part of a salary dump.

Even if it means we would have to use other picks to get pick 7, it's clearly a great opportunity for a club in the right position. Just like it was for Freo last year.

It seems that either Bowes does not want to come to us or our cap just is not in as good of a position as it should be for a side that can't make the 8.

As for not knowing the details, you were pretty quick to tell us the reason we wanted going after him was his stats on AFL tables didn't impress you. I'd be surprised if that is the way the club were looking at it.

Instead we look to be trading out a former pick 7 and getting a lot less than what we paid for him 5 years ago.

More difficult draw too this time around, although as we know they don’t travel much.

All the good players want to go to the top teams these days so we’re going to have to draft our way out of this rebuild so I’d be staggered if we didn’t enquire about pick 7. Surely it’s more likely we were told Bowes wasn’t interested than being stupid enough to knock it back.

I think that's the most likely of the situations.

Bowes has probably told the GC where he wants to be traded and it's not us.

Big win for the Cats if he goes there.

I dont imagine it is the different views that makes some people not post anymore.
Tends to be the more personal attacks that people make on each other that drives people away from posting.
All people are trying to do is give their own perspective on something or in some cases what they have heard either through media, word of mouth or generally ITK content. Yet they get smashed down for sharing. Dont blame them for keeping it to themselves.

Sneaky little like there from MG 😂 I’ve been reading Stav’s post which are great updates, just wasn’t sure how much he had form inside the club these days. Although I’m reading everyone’s post it’s important to know certain names 😅

Jack Bowes will depart Gold Coast in this year’s trade period as his salary reaches a bursting point.

Bowes is owed around $850,000 next year after having his salary pushed back multiple times in recent seasons.

Bowes is contracted until 2024, but will be among the departures at the Suns as part of a pay re-structure aimed at retaining its young core and making room for a star rival.

Geelong is very interested and the favourite to land Bowes, but Gold Coast has a queue for the former No.10 draft pick.

The Cats have been in discussions with the Suns over a trade for the 24-year-old, which could see the premier end up with pick 7 in the deal.

Geelong wants to improve its draft hand – its first three selections are currently 18, 36 and 46 – and Gold Coast wants to ease its salary cap squeeze and will do it by attaching draft picks.

While the specifics of any trade will be thrashed out this week, Bowes would either have to forfeit money or the Cats offer him a longer-term deal to spread out what he is owed.

But either way, the Suns would get his lucrative contract off the books.

The Cats see significant upside in Bowes, who has played 83 games in six seasons on the Gold Coast, primarily as a defender, but only five this year following significant pre-season shoulder surgery.

Geelong is also set to secure Tanner Bruhn from GWS and could bring in Ollie Henry from Collingwood, meaning Chris Scott’s side could welcome three first-round draft picks within the last six years after being priced out in the hunt for Brodie Grundy and Jacob Hopper.

The Cats will lose Shaun Higgins and most likely Luke Dahlhaus to retirement, while captain Joel Selwood could also step away after a fairytale fourth flag.

Geelong’s ruthless power on the field could yet be matched by a ruthless genius at the trade table.

They get the high-end talent they didn’t previously have access to, while gaining a pointy first-round pick.
