Hill worth 1st rnd. Highly rated big salary played all year, 2 years to run on his contract.

Thomas - hasn’t played since 21, and only played a handful of games after coming back from injury. Hasn’t hit his ceiling and has potential but big risk.

It's the silly season, it's the same thing every year, speculation is rife until we know what the list is for the next season. You watch, when we get the 2023 list finalised, we'll be back to being a top 4 contender.

So all AFL players do it regularly do they? Okay. Plenty of AFL players stay at home to look after kids most of the time, others are straight edge, others are god bothers. Do some use it a lot? Totally. Do more players than regular people? Yes. But do all or most do it? I doubt it's more than 10 to 20% that use it most weeks and even then it's probably overs. Some would be addicted even but that isn't "every AFL player".

Perhaps your group are druggos..... must hang with a bad crowd.

72 hours still has to be out of your system on game days and random testing days.

Never have I said all do. Looking after your kids is also not a blocker to using recreational drugs.
You say 10-20%... That might be the number of regular users but occasional user number would be a lot higher than that.
Anyway it's a pointless discussion. Does it really matter? Occasional recreational drug use isn't really going to effect most people.
Obviously as Saints fans we don't want a high % of our team been complete party animals but I'm not going to lose any sleep if the boys are occasionally letting there hair down.

According to the media DeGoey is playing for the Saints next year on a 5 yr contract.

Next year with Jack Hayes and Coffield coming back from injuries will give us 2 good players back into the side , with the addition of DeGoey and maybe a couple others, our squad is only getting stronger.

People need to understand that it will basically take a premiership win for us to be seen as a destination club. Any big recruits we have gotten have come for the bucket loads of cash, never fair market value because we are a club with a history of losing. Every trade period is the same any decent player looking for a change or return to Victoria gets automatically linked to Collingwood, Richmond or Geelong and Hawthorn until Clarko left. We want to put our hat in the ring we know all we can do is offer the largest contract and cross our fingers.
We can change our board, coach, training ground and nothing will change until we win games and its hard to do that without getting those stars or lucking out and selecting the stars of the draft.
My family joke that being a Saints fan is akin to being a masochist yet it really isn't that far off, We could switch allegiance but we have faith that each year will be the year it all turns around. It was that way for the first 93 years and been that for the last 56 years.

Oh and Next year will definitely be our year.

Don’t know how far or how much work is done in chasing/looking for that next recruit, or how strong the Goldfields Football League is either StCicatriz ?
But the player I’d hoped to have been had a look at Alex Paech finished 3rd in their leagues B+F, only 2 votes behind dual winners one being forward Jack Steel (with that name would have to be worth a shot).
Both 23yo & with all our retirements surely there is a rookie spot open.

I saw improvement from Long this year. Said I wanted him signed before the last game.

I suspect what's happening with Long is that he has had a good end to the year and his management will be pushing for a three year deal on half decent coin. Now he can also leverage other teams against us. I'm confident he will re-sign but we will have to come to the party.

That's what I'd pay him - half of a decent wage.

A decent run with injuries and a couple of inclusions to the list and he's playing at Sandy for most of the season.

Hill WAS exactly what we needed.

The hard running half-forward/wingman that the Hawks and Freo had anyway.

We got him and started spinning magnets to get things on track. Half back was a cop out. All his best work for us was done forward of centre but we let him job down and take kickouts so that he could get more of the ball. We told players to look for him so that his stat sheet looked reasonable.

I don't think I can remember a time when we tried to fit so many square pegs into round holes.

I called it mid season when Jones, Clark & Billings came straight back into the team.

Give me DMac, Lienart & Long on form. There shouldnt be any automatic selections.

Once the integrity went out the window so did our form. The "guns" don't have to try as hard because they are basically untouchable.

**** I miss Scotty Watters. He was a campaigner but thats exactly what this club needs to get it's shit together!

Because at the time it's what we needed. Unfortunately gameplans and coaches changed, that's also what he cost. Even though he hasn't been a top 50 player, he has always been one of the best wingers.

No I can see when we do stupid self inflicted harm to our list. We culled half the list and at that point a normal club would draft hard. We went the top up. It looks like we have ADHD as a club and just run in every direction looking for shiny things to chase. There seems to be zero plan to build a ist or employ staff who might help improve it. If you wanted to sabotage a club you'd do what we do to ourselves.

How it's taken so long to fix up the drafting staff even though you can see that they have failed to draft at a normal rate for years....and even then we just internally move them around. That's either negligently ignoring it or not interested in improvement. How our president runs a recruiting company but we pay such scant attention to staffing....just insane.

I'm an idiot but I could draw up a simple plan that even these nuffies could follow. You obviously have lower standards than me or you are part of the staff there.

It's bullshit any way. Ratts was the coach when we took him. If we'd wanted to we could have walked. Instead we just gave up anything Bell asked for. Sad for Hill that plans change but it's like paying for an around the world holiday for two, despite going through a divorce because you didn't want to make the Travel agent sad.

That's even more unprofessional if we went through with a trade despite him not being needed, especially when we could have made Bell the issue, he gave us an out.

Ratts will be gone next year and the new coach will want a Brad Hill and we'll do it all again.

Watters has small man syndrome knew better than everybody took no advise and told a team that had just played in 3 GFs they were shit and had not achieved anything. Coming from a club that won through drug taking recreational and performance to excess. Watters never read the room, his ego was so big he never would. He hasn't been seen of since which tells you all you need to know.
Clarkson took an underperformed team loaded it with early draft pick talent and astute trading and built a culture from the ground up and team bought in just like Ross Lyon did.
Different situation.
Had a chat with Longy at start of year really good bloke and he thought he was not in coaches best 22 and would be difficult to get a regular spot. I think if we get DeGoey Coff Clarke Wood and DMac and Hayes back he may be there again..sadly.
Much prefer him off half back than Hill provided he plays to the standard of the last game...Sincs went next level why not him?

7 spots in back line incl Bench. Wilkie Battle and Doogs talls choice of Paton Webster ss lock down defender and Sincs leaves max 2 spots between Cof Clarke et al. DMac back as defensive winger allows for a more attacking half back option.

Forward line looks even tougher. King Membrey Hayes Higgins and then Owens Billings Butler Wood Sharman and potentially DeGoey. Let alone who else we get.

Someone has to go for list improvement and if Long Hill help get us that then so be it. Hard for North with pick 1 and 55 to do much trading unless they downgrade with GCS pick 5 Rankine and 7 and get priority pick 19.

If we can turn that into 5 and late first round for Hill and Long and pick 10 then I would be happy for both clubs....as North need some older experience we need to keep refreshing and unearth more exciting talent like this year.

Bit of belief is all it takes. We were 8 and 3 and were talked about as top 4 finalists, that does not happen by chance and we were also the last team to beat Geelong. Bit more youth and recruiting and we are again thereabouts....just look at the Pies.
