Yeah hate them so much we picked up 2 in the last draft [emoji849][emoji849][emoji849]

They fell into our lap. But even with them we can’t just assume they’re going to make it so we should be looking to stockpile a bunch of young mids instead of relying on one or two to make it then wondering why we keep having to rebuild.

I think finding those guys outside of the top 10 are very hard though. Occasionally you'll get lucky with a Fyfe type.

I'd happily trade a late first for him if we had it to be honest.

I think he's got a fair bit of upside. He's a goal kicking mid with really clean hands and great in traffic.

I'm a big fan of those types

Have you noticed how Richmond and the Cats who are great recruiters are both happy to trade out of this draft. I think that's a reason no to go hard at selling off players to get back into the draft.

Steele seems to be kicking less goals every year (with out checking stats). That was one of his strengths early. Looked like he could rest up forward and score pretty efficiently.
I think we hyped up his goal kicking. He’s a bit like a cripps/fyfe. Can kick good looking goals once in a while but doesn’t actually understand the forward craft like those mid-forwards like dusty do.

Owen’s looks like he’ll kick them whatever way he pleases. Running snap, dribble along the ground, from 50.

Thats one way to look at it.

The other is that Geelong are very strongly in the window and will be for a while so topping up with experience when possible is a good thing.
Richmond have fallen out of the window but I reckon are trying to pull a Geelong and jump back in before their aging stars are gone. So they need experience.

Biggest alarm is we are not far off playing finals, have best 22 spots available and no one wants to come to us. They would prefer to go to a team and fight for a best 22 spot.

We need to find the fringe players and turn them into stars. Jack Steele style.

That’s a very long bow

Cats never think highly of the draft, especially 1st Round picks. They throw them away.

Since 2016 I think they have actually used 2 first round draft picks.
Clark now plays for Freo.
Holmes is the other.

Tigers had the mini rebuild with 5 picks in the Top 30 last year.
They've got their youth in and now they are going for the 'right now' in Hopper and Taranto. And to be brutally honest both of those players are worth more than 3 picks in the teens and Soldo.

Geelong dine out on the falcons and the pull of home. It’s not the same but all things being equal I’m picking kids from the dragons, chargers, stingrays and the country. Get that group of young guys coming through together then look to load up with the right pieces. Give ourselves an opportunity at sustained success and a flag not just an occasional finals appearance making up the numbers.

Happy enough to look at Thomas but not in a here comes Jack trade involving Clark. A Clark trade must be for an early first and change imo or we’re at best treading water. Clark has shown flashes of greatness, collision injuries not form or attitude have slowed his roll. You need some serious compensation to trade a player like that especially when you look at who else is on our list. Outside of Gresham do we have another young player on our list that has anything like the skills and potential of Clark, tantamount to trading king.

I think it's more that they are squeezing as much juice out of the grape as possible

Me too. How do we get the late first? Is that Hill compo? Pick 19 seems about right for him. Not too little not too much.
We trade out a few and put together a generous bundle of points. Brizzy are taking 2 high end FS this year.

We table our future 1st, receiving a shiny new FB, FRDP and a future 2nd.
Turn Hill into Bruhn, probably via North's future 2nd.

How did my boy Jack Payne go last night? Is he still not good enough for Stkilda?

Didn’t really notice him but Brisbane fans don’t seem to love him.

Not keen on selling next year’s first. If we bomb we could give up a top 5 pick for pick 17 in an average draft. The next draft has some good talent already. I think we are topping up the youth not going full rebuild as well.

It depends on which way the review swings. If we fix some structural issues and back ourselves to improve then no biggie, but if we can't then we hold on to it.
My post was more about the how than the should. Brizzy will be looking for a F1st.

Have you noticed how they target players with a few years worth of growth under their belt from the plastics/lower teams?
Why would they hit the draft.

Imagine getting Lynch, Prestia, Caddy, Taranto, Hopper even Tarrant just plug-n-play.

Cats getting Danger, Tuohy, Higgins, Cameron, Smith, Rohan etc on top of their already ridiculous father sons & generational players.

The Dees go and grab Lever, May, Langdon, Brown (lol Norf).

Swans force fed academy picks like a foie gras duck.

Our bottom out after the cup tilts couldn’t have been timed any worse, plus we drafted like George chasing birds at 2am in the kebab line.

How’s that EqUaLisATiOn going AFL??
It’s enough to make ya throw up.

Well if you want a name to wet your beak over.

Tarryn Thomas

Most clubs in the league are asking the question.
Not going anywhere. He hasn’t gone to Bali with his teammates instead got himself a personal trainer, acknowledges he had a lot of family stuff going on this year. Determined to dominate next year..

Can’t trade out of next years without a premium. We could easily be top 5 so like for like with some sugar on top as recruiters really rate next years. Personally I think this draft will prove to be deep but there’s plenty of talent in the top 10 to match most years.
