While we're all wallowing in self-pity, could you just imagine how good we could have been if free agency was brought in 2004... players would have been lining up to join us. Really only would have needed to have filled 1 or 2 holes and we could have easily had the long term stability that Geelong are enjoying now.

I wish you could trade players without there consent … we are at a disadvantage not being one of the bigger clubs so we don’t get chosen as often when a player is looking for a club to go to

If you could trade without consent I’d be fascinated to see what we could do .. that would be the real test of a list manager

That's why the Bowes trade will be interesting, the steak knives (Pick 7) has more value than the player being traded so you'd think the player will have less say and GCS should get a number of offers from clubs other than Geelong.

If I was Gags and the Saints were keen on getting involved, then this is one where I'd let slip to the media the extent of our interest.

Improving this is the only thing that matters

We have missed out on all the top talent moving clubs. So it has to come from the draft this summer. Which means we need better and more picks

Other than Long at this stage. With everyone seemingly now staying, how can we get those better picks?
Or are the likes of Clark and Long possible trades?

I'm still trying to figure out how we are replacing all those we've delisted/retired with what we have. Surely there is more at play? If it goes to script we lose

Hanners, Geary, Ryder, Kent, Joyce, Kyle, Long, Bytel.

And we have picks 9, 28, 46 and 82. We'll get a pick for Long. Doubt will get anything for Bytel. But gee they are slim pickings.

Thank you for explaining my point back to me in a less succinct, unnecessary way xoxo
We picked up Crouch as a free agent and we just about snared DeGoey so I would say the club is not doing to bad - treading water for 3 years - well it is how you see it , we have totally burned through the list and we are getting to the stage were we can make a massive leap.
King with a few years under his belt is only going to get stronger and better , kids like Battle have finally found there spot , guys like Steele , Marshall , Wilkie , Sinclair have many years ahead of them if you look at Geelong and the new kids we have brought in look to have fixed us for years to come.

They are picking up a bunch of kids that have not been able to get games at other clubs , is not any way a mini rebuild - pick 7 would be handy - there next pick would be in late teens at best - and then you have to look at how many players will be finishing in the next 3 0r 4 years - half of there best 22.
Bruhn and Henry might not be entrenched in the top 22, but they seem to be developing about as well as you'd expect, even for first round picks. Not every great player played 44 games in their first two seasons.

Think you're underselling them, Henry in particular looks like a future star to me.

It means that from the 2020-2022 drafts they will have 5 first round picks (Bruhn, Henry, Holmes, 7 and 18) compared to our 3 (Allison, NWM and 9).

They're playing in Grand Finals and winning flags while bringing in almost two first round picks a year... whereas we have a bust and a flight risk while missing out on finals.

Crouch is a ✅
Almost getting someone is good for sweet FA lol

Look at where the best players are going.

It ain’t us.

How do you know we "just about snared De Goey"?

As sad as it is to say I imagine we will be involved in the DFA game again this year

Could well be but they have been in the system a few years - Windhager , Owens and Milera look at this moment to be levels ahead after just one year .

We're obviously working feverishly now to get draft picks in for the Riewoldt boys.

*ing Matt Rendell.

Like a 12yo at your first school dance... You never know unless you ask.

At least we are asking the question. At the very least we are making the Filth pay full market rate... Which, on current form will absolutely bite them on the arse over the next couple of years.

Gotta be asking the question.

I had a chuckle yesterday when he said on Trade Radio that his own kids were ripping into him about being a poor draft expert.

I've heard that the AFL actually paid De Goey a big pile of "ambassador money" about a month ago on the condition that he didn't announce that he was staying with the Pies until the last minute just so the media would have something to speculate about in the lead up to Trade week..

What a joke!!!

Guess you haven't heard of Dougal Howard then, big shot.

Here's a hint - think of a mix of Winmar and Loewe. Superior in the air and electrifying at ground level.

And you call yourself a supporter.
