He has said staying at Richmond

He may want to. With Hopper & Tarantula coming in, his midfield opportunities are gonna drop right off.

Richmond also need to lose some $$$ to fit them in.

Hope we’re at least speaking to his management.

Richmond hard-nut Jack Graham will stay with the Tigers after knocking back interest from Port Adelaide.
News Corp has confirmed Graham, who toured Port Adelaide’s facilities this week, has told Richmond officials he is locked in at Punt Road for next season.

Graham is expected to trigger a clause in his contract that will take him through to the end of 2024 when he will qualify for free agency.

My concern with Sharman is that he isn't going to take a forward away from King (unless he develops significantly). Rata isn't a star by any means, but he's good enough that he needs somebody accountable for him.

I don't mind giving Sharman more time to develop. He seems pretty versatile so would rather see him play a third tall swing man, then be our second stay at home forward.

We actually have exactly what we need already in Hayes. If his round 1 performance was something he could do regularly we are a far, far better side. But don't want to bet the house on him just yet for obvious reasons.
That's fair enough. I don't see why both could not be achieved though since each are only fairly cheap options.
We should be going hard at Jack Payne imho. No superstar but still only young and fits the mold.

Some good news re Ben Long. My eldest granddaughter who is friends with girls who know Saints players, (she organised Rowan Marshall to get me a signed Saints jumper and footy for my birthday) was talking to Ben Long on wednesday night, and he told her he was having second thoughts about leaving the Saints.
That's bad news........

Sorry M, I don’t go anywhere near NewsCorp… I know he’s contracted. Just worth pursuing.

Schache
Tomlinson
McAsey
Ratagalou
Weideman

They’re all list cloggers. There is a reason why they aren’t getting games at their clubs.

We won’t improve by adding these types to our list.
The development of Max Heath is the major factor for us and this works nicely within it.
If Rata simply replaces Tom Campbell which has to be done at some point then it's a hole filled for the next 6-7 years and as with many of that ilk he might peak at 28-30 years old and become more useful.
At a low enough cost it's a good long term strategic appointment.

Some say he only ever played one good game (Round 23 against the Swans). I don't say that, but we've now seen just how capable he is when he is given the freedom to play his way. How would it be bad news to keep a guy with that kind of upside?

Mark McGough won an Anzac Day Medal once. Lewis Taylor won the Rising Star but has since been delisted a couple of times. Even Mason Cox plays a good game every now and then.

If we think Longy isn’t going to make it at the Saints then one good game shouldn’t change a conclusion built over many years of close observation.

Any of you older gen remember the zone change?

I came in aroumd 85 but was very green with footy still, coming from UK based Div 1 and 2 football with Jimmy Hill match calling lol

Who should we of got from that zone?
Remeber hearing Brereton was one
Just looking at the magnificent 1989 Hawks team…

They had Gippsland and the Mornington Peninsula, including Frankston… So;

Ayres
Brereton
Mew
Dear
Tuck (Berwick… so maybe not)

And from Geelong;

Ablett

So from that nucleus, eschewing Plugger and Frawley and the Ballarat boys… the Saints team of the mid-late 80s may have been something like;

B: Ayres - Grant - Dunne
HB: Barker - Mew - Taylor
C: Winmar - Coughlan - Tuck
HF: Muir - Brereton - Owen
F: Fode - Loewe - Ablett
Foll: Dear - Harvey - Burke
Int: Rice Mace Dwyer

Bear in mind Leigh Matthews had only retired in 1985 too…

But the fact is… we didn’t… 🤷🏻‍♂️

The plan is to hit the draft so we can't really expect to land to many high profile players.

Tomlinson makes no sense but we need depth at either end.

I'd be happy with either Schache or Weitering as a forward and Phillips as a defender.

Anyone else we draft won't be ready for AFL.
Weitering might cost more that Scarlett Johansson.

He definitely played other good games. I remember against whom, but there was another game where Long cMe on as a sub and provided much needed spark.

When Long is up and about, I think he's one of those guys that lift those around him with his toughness.

I would prefer to keep than lose him, even for a 2nd rounder.

I simply don't rate him,he has had alot of time and plenty of chances to have an impact to which he has failed, trade him out while you can, take the pick and try and upgrade it with gold coast....... no chance of him changing his mind anyway in regards to gc ,no other fools will be offering 4 yrs........

I'd give him 4 years. Fool !

Battle has to stay in defence for mine, he's finally found some consistency. I don't think getting 20-30 goals a year of him up front is a good enough return for his talent.

Either do I

Think he has potential for a much higher return than that.

They were tracking so well we got Loewe who was zoned to them from memory because they weren’t interested in him.

It would be pretty rare that an unsigned player nominated a club and then decided to stay wouldn't it?

Having said that I thought Gags kind of suggested they still want to keep him the other day.

I'm hoping Jack Hayes fill's the role as forward who helps out Marshall in the ruck , however I understand why we need another , in case one cop's a injury.

Ben Long hasn't been the star we were hoping him to be and he would know he has been borderline been up for trade the last few years and it is most probably the reason he was looking for job security at the Suns.
His last game was the best he ever played for us and to see him produce that on a consistent basis for the Suns would hurt , he could well turn around to be another Sinclair story or he could be another that just fades away - suppose it's up to him.

I wonder if David Noble spoke to Gaggs about Stocker while he was doing the review?

SEN Chief Sports Reporter Sam Edmund revealed shortly after Stocker’s delisting that the powers that be at Carlton believed Stocker’s aerobic capacity, speed and ball use simply weren’t good enough to earn a spot at AFL level.

This is why he was cut - and if it's true he will be lucky to get a spot on a list
