Perhaps that had something to do with the coaching?

Hard to criticise the development record of the club and then go "meh" when we get in a coach who has either developed players or successfully coached developed players.

GWS had a dream amount of high picks that went through there but he at least got them going. I hope I'm wrong and he's a master coach in waiting but this club has turned me cynical.

Yep, every year around this time it's "this one's a pretty even draft after the first couple, some gems to be had late" and "next year's going to be huge though". Every year like clockwork.

That Harley Reid kid looked like he'd go pick one this year if he was draftable. And the little forward bloke was not far behind. It looks like it has at least a better front end. There are drafts that just do have more talent for what ever reason but this draft looks okay to me. There looks like a bit of depth up until the 30s.

This year was meant to have a plethora of talls at the top end of the draft, and they've fallen down the draft boards to the point where only 1 tall is guaranteed be selected in the top 10.

Yes. Think you are right. The number one guy meant to be a jet. Maybe they think that is the marker. Still, don’t really want to see us give away anything.

I’m still banging the drum to draft, draft draft. Trade when it’s advantageous. Don’t when it’s not. I am happy to call it rebuilding. We are doing bugger all the other way.

Fair enough, but a lot of the MMQB-ing on here doesn't really take into account what was the best information available when a decision is made. Best example of this is Billings over Bontempelli. My recollection is Billings was a no-brainer at pick 3 at the time.

The decision to bring in Hayes to coach the midfield is logically sound, unlike, say, if Essendon had hired Hird as senior coach again (Essendon were mentioned before in comparison).

But I understand the cynicism. Decision makers can't be that pessimistic or they'd never make any decision.

Boyd was always number one, apparently he was a generational player the likes of which we would never see again.

There was a fair bit of debate about whether Billings or Aish would be better.

I like Battle down back, but I’d still love him to become that 2nd key forward for us in the Jack Darling mould. He’s at that age now where his body is now AFL hardened and he’s had a full year down back playing on a variety of forwards.

I feel like either him or Sharman have to step up to be that 2nd forward we need. We can’t have them both down back with Wilkie, Howard and Cordy.

Find it hard to criticize Goddard when he’s right. I love all this negative attention on the club, finally it’s not just a bunch of mad degenerates on a footy forum who are getting frustrated with the direction the club has taken and the people involved.

This could be the kick in the ass the club needs. All these comments and barbs at the club are true, with the exception of Damien Barretts. I disagree we need to bring someone big in to be considered not getting an F for the trade period.

Anyway, everyone involved at the club should be hearing this and using it as ammunition. Ammunition to work as hard as possible in the off season and use these negative words as fuel to move the club out of the irrelevant category it’s been stuck in for a decade

Yes they were. Both led us by 4 goals and we ran over the top of them.
Went back and watched Saints v Geelong and while they were nearly unstoppable near end of season, they were playing good football.
Our football was anything but putrid and unwatchable.
It is those blatantly indefensibly stupid comments that make this forum sound like a Facebook nuffies page.
