Murray Bushrangers 2023 U18 Pre-season squad named

314953022_806258180730073_6093128826891746419_n.jpg

2022: Wardlaw.
2023: Hardeman.
2024: Nancarrow.
2025: Greeves.
2026: N/A.
2027: Tyrrell.
2028: Whoever is Essendon's top F/S prospect.
People really rate Nancarrow that highly? I assume he'll be playing bottom age footy for Oakleigh, Scotch, Suns academy and the Allies next year so we'll see how he goes against the best 18 year olds in the country. Perhaps one thing that will help Nancarrow is that he'll most likely combine with Walter in the Suns academy/Allies national championships games so you'd expect Nancarrow to get some protection in that sense because Walter is absolutely massive, doesn't mind throwing his weight around and will almost definitely take the best key defender.

I also wonder if Nancarrow may eventually end up in the ruck? A Paddy Ryder type.

My thoughts on the academy list. 20 top agers and 10 bottom agers. Apologies if i have missed any glaring omissions. Hard to pick 30. Disclaimer - My opinion does not not mean this is the actual squad ;)

The comparison list below. I managed to select 19 out of 30. Keeping in mind I selected 10 bottom agers in my original selection as there are normally 9-10 selected. In 2022/2023 no bottom agers have been selected at this stage.

All 3 North academy?
Honestly dont know anymore. Dont think Sanders is for some weird reason, I thought McKercher and Callinan were but Im not sure I understand the rules anymore lol. Looks like Tassie is getting a team anyway so hopefully all three will be playing for us in 2026 or so :)

It makes complete sense that Nancarrow can board at Scotch for multiple years, play Oakleigh Chargers and develop in the Victorian underage system and qualify for the Gold Coast Academy 😂🤪

I mean it will have only been 3 years since he had any meaningful involvement in QLD football when he’s drafted.

BTW I had the same opinion of the likes of Hopper as well.

Father Son is one thing but come on…

Family still resides in Gold Coasts academy zone.

The Vic private schools are coming for QLD talent with full scholarships. It has been reported on our (Lions) board that two of our academy kids tuned down scholarships to Vic schools.

They're our academy kids, being offered full board and tuition scholarships, with add ons, worth $60k a year. That's a families decision that an academy has little to no input in.

Who cares where their family resides? That’s clearly open for manipulation as it appears it already is…

I think there’s a little from column A, I.e the clubs are more than happy to facilitate the relationship given the development programs are a huge step up from their own.

Perfect situation for them.

And I don’t have a problem with them playing football in the APS.

I have a problem with them playing the majority of their football for a Victorian NAB League side, but still qualifying for a Northern academy.

I can kind of cop kids from Leeton boarding in Geelong and at places like Assumption and qualifying for GWS as they are literally the closest top flight boarding schools with football programs to their homes and they have very little other options.

Kids moving to Victorian Boarding schools from QLD in year 10 are no longer products of their academy by the completion of year 12. Id have the same opinion of Cyril Rioli under current recruiting laws.
