there is clearly high value attached to this yrs pick one. so what are peoples thoughts on what would get a trade of pick 1 done? Is Melbournes pick 13 and 14 enough to trade pick one. Hawthorn clearly has a strategy and i think they will win the spoon so do they pick Reid or trade their pick for multiple first rnd picks?

It’ll take 3 firsts to get Harley Reid imo.

I mean he’s trained with Essendon for a week and he would 100% be in our best 22 already.
Im kinda with u on this. Its a lot to give up. I'm not sure any team would give up 3 first rnd picks (2x 2023, 1x 2024)

I think teams would.

Most teams are pretty good at finding quality AFL players outside of the first round. Losing a couple of first rounders is not going to leave the cupboard bare.

Rehash of an earlier article. Nothing new here. AFL is struggling to put out new articles every day this pre-season.

Which I'm okay with.

If we did away with filler, the whole thing would be more palatable.

No one will trade pick 1 this year. Reid is too good.

No.

We are probably one of the few clubs to have the ammo for it.

And I'm not even sure we'd be able to get it done with R1, Ports R1 and our F1 in the locker.

It was not quite 3 1sts, but Port paid the piper for JHF - they shifted and moved the pieces everywhere until they could land him.

An ambitious club like Port was last trade period may just try to trade up to get that pick 1 and like JHF who could be a superstar, it may be worth the price

If parish leaves FA and essendon finish bottom 5 they could get in the conversation
I don’t want Parish to leave but if it gets us in the Harley Reid conversation it certainly isn’t the end of the world.

While we're going back and forth, Pie 4 Life, who are you looking forward to seeing this year?

Also, will the No. 1 race be a one player race or otherwise?
Right now it's Harley's to lose. Ashton Moir the biggest threat. Of course a lot can change as we saw with Cadman, so Curtin another chance.

Not sure where to put this but I have a mature age draft smoky for this season in Emmanuel Ajang. Played for the Fitzroy Cubs exhibition match against the Carlton VFL side last year and was super freakish athletically, kicked a couple nice goals. Spent majority of last year in the GFL despite being on Werribee's VFL list but he debuted in the final game of the year and had 26 touches. He has all the attributes, if he can break into the VFL side and play consistently as he did in his debut he will put himself firmly on the radar of AFL clubs. His coach last year Michael Barlow rates him incredibly highly. Late bloomer but could be anything if developed properly.

It’s the whole list management team and HOF involved at that point in the draft, not just the head recruiter making that pick.
Yeah the assistant coaches, trainers, physio ect all help win a flag - but the coach gets the majority of the off field credit - and the flick if teams don't succeed.

I think every offer will be refused - a recruiter potentially passing on the next Dustin Martin would be committing career suicide.
might depend on how others in the draft pool go this year and if the whole top 10 or even top 5 look incredibly strong (ie throw a blanket over them as its hard to separate), North might look at a possible godfather deal...maybe?
