Same rule applies to this thread as other years, keep it on topic about the kids.
Don’t get bogged down on what other teams might do or where they will finish.

Trade speculation belongs here.

That's also where you can discuss your mock drafts or pick trades.

Any McCabe, Dear or Maginness talk belongs here.

Pretty much every year Picks 10-13 turn up some banger players, you can tip your toes in the kiddy pool of finals and bring in an elite player.

2015 - Pick 11 - Milera, Pick 12 - Curnow, Pick - 13 Kennedy
2016 - Pick 11 - Florent, Pick 12 - Simpkin, Pick - 13 Venables
2017 - Pick 11 - Bonar, Pick 12 - Fogarty, Pick - 13 Brander
2018 - Pick 11 - Caldwell, Pick 12 - Butters, Pick - 13 Quaynor
2019 - Pick 11 - Flanders, Pick 12 - Pickett, Pick - 13 Day
2020 - Pick 11 - Pedlar, Pick 12 - Bruhn, Pick - 13 Powell
2021 - Pick 11 - Wanganeen-Milera, Pick 12 - Sinn, Pick - 13 Hobbs
2021 - Pick 11 - Hollands, Pick 12 - Fletcher, Pick - 13 Busslinger

This why people should never hope to lose games.
Development system trumps just raw talent.
I hope he somehow continues as their list manager and recruiter, he will keep them anchored to the bottom for a few years more :D
He did say in his first trade interview, "I am not going anywhere, I'll be around for a while yet"

I laughed at that aswell!
Remind me how long it is since the scum have won a final?
Genius!!!
Mick Ablett choking the chook there!

I heard a story recently that at last years draft when it got to picks in the late 40’s Mick Ablett was still suggesting each kid was a star and going to be a gun and Clarko, watching on from the north war room, started mumbling under his breath “fair dimkum, if I see this guy in the corridor…”. 😂

Not saying he can't be excited, his mates didn't even let his family in. That's who l was talking about. I prefer to see the reactions from their family.

Maybe his family are not supportive? Maybe his group of mates recently lost one?

What you 'prefer' to see is not important.

Honestly, the amount of judgement that gets passed on these kids every year blows my mind.

It's already at our doorstep

Honestly, if I was a team near the top of the ladder that is looking to rebuild in the next few years, I’d be highly concerned by that.

Interesting opening night.

Eagles kept Pick 1 for Harley Reid
(Surprise surprise)
Norf did right thing holding onto 2 & 3 in my opinion.
Absolutely rapt we got Watson
Stoked with McCabe with Deaf to follow.
We’ve held onto our F1 which will work out great for us I’m sure.

The forum was like a beer garden which I think shines poorly on the AFL

Bring on tonight …..can’t wait

Unless the provisions for the northern clubs change, Academy players will be the norm up there. A natural flow of talent far superior to down here will flow. I have been on about this for a while now. The northern boom in AFL participation, if left unchecked, will have a detrimental effect on clubs like the HFC.
Will have no more effect on Hawthorn than any other club, in fact it will probably effect us less as we’ve ticked off our “target the draft” part of our list build strategy, and will be now looking to fill roles with trades and FA’s.

If I was Geelong or Richmond I’d be concerned.

It shits me to no end to look at the number of academy players in that team.
Even if our strategy is to ply players from the northern clubs we will have to go with cap in hand and pay up in picks.
We need some free agency wins in the next couple of years and I dont mean Mckay level.

Wonder if Geelong or Collingwood with 36 or 37 would take 46, 52 and 53 if they were planning on still taking several picks tonight given the ones they have after that are 63/68 and 65/76 respectively (obviously they will come in more as teams start to pass which makes it less likely)

That's 11 of the best 22 kids reserved for 4 sides. I know it won't necessarily pan out that way come draft time, but it's a genuine threat to equalisation in the AFL.

Out of the top 25 in his phantom, the only incorrect landing spots Twomey had were:

Curtin (Crows instead of Cats)
O'Sullivan (Cats instead of Crows)
DeMattia (Pies instead of Saints)
Wilson (Saints instead of Roos)
M.Edwards (TBA instead of Roos)

As someone in here mentioned earlier, it is pretty unreal how strongly connected he is.

I respect his sources, but geez it takes some fun away.

How on earth can he be this accurate and why are clubs telling each other their info.

There's still some talent left before our next pick. Fingers crossed 2J or Lorenz are available at our pick.

Archer Reid
Oli Murphy
Mitchell Edwards
George Stevens
Arie Schoenmakers
Archie Roberts
Logan Morris
Jack Delean
ZZ Top
Nathan Philactides
2J
Will Lorenz
Add to the above list:

Angus Hastie
Harvey Johnston
Will Patton

Clubs that currently don’t get the benefits the northern state clubs currently get will be affected. However I would not want to be a club trying to rebuild a List at the moment unless you are a Club based north or of course the perennial Shinbeggars (gee I love that name).

The compromise of rules sponsored by the AFL will continue to affect Clubs like us who do not have their hands out.

Geelong especially could have their decades-long staying afloat come to a grinding halt fairly messily if they don't get the next 1-2 off-seasons right. If they miss the finals the next few seasons and stop luring talent in - right around when Tassie make the conflicted draft even more conflicted - then that's going to bleak for them.

I don't get the AFL's sick fascination with GC. Must be because they all want to retire to Byron

The more successful it becomes, the more it will drive participation in Queensland which will drive sponsorship, membership and match income and reduce its reliance on the AFL teet.

Ultimately the plan will have to be to get all the clubs self sustaining which can allow for more money to fund grass roots or teams 20, 21 and 22

At the expense of the rest of the country. The rolling gift giving
