I’d have thought Cunninton or even Corr were better choices for a couple of seasons. LDU has really come from nowhere this year too. McKay another.

We have options but Simpkin and McDonald just aren’t it.

I'd 100% give it to Cunners with Jack remaining Co- as his mouthpiece. Make one of the younger guys earn it, which they haven't yet.

Sucks that there isn't a glaringly obvious candidate. I'd leave it with Jack again - but acknowledge that it's his final year and he's expected to play VFL.

Rather that than give it to Jy/LMac and not be certain they can take the role on, but conversely I genuinely struggle to see someone 'developing' leadership over the next 12 months. It's arguably the most glaring hole in our list at the moment.

You can't give it to a player that is not best 22. JZ has been a great servant but he is holding his spot in the team this year by the barest of margins and a sizeable injury list.

We should acknowledge as fans that we have only a pretty superficial view. There are a range of factors we can't see or know that would determine who has the best leadership credentials. There have been plenty of good captains who weren't the best player on the team and plenty of great players that didn't have captaincy quality.

Even though he is not having quite the season we hoped I think Simpkin is still the standout candidate with LMac the alternative. I suspect in a couple of years that Will Phillips will impress as the obvious next captain after that.

Was really disappointed when Jy wasn’t made Captain at the start of the season but alarm bells having been ringing this year.

Genuinely don’t know who I want to lead us. Sad times when there is no stand outs.

Overall, LDU is the man for mine. He seems to have all the bases covered - skill, excitement, solid, stable citizen (from the outside), presents well, capable of breaking a game open - the list goes on.

Well there are 2 senior players on our list with the respect to fill the Captaincy position - Cunners and Goldie - and then 1 more mid aged player in BMac and then 1 very junior player in JHF.

After that it is slim pickings.

LDU has moved up into pole position now.
Not sure if Cunnington would want it? That’s probably shifted a bit the past few seasons though I guess. He does seem to love teaching the kids/taking them under his wing. It would be pretty inspirational.
Just feel LDU is going from strength to strength & embracing more responsibility.
Actually the more I’m thinking as I type, perhaps Cunnington is the man.
