Having Gresh's FA Compo pick would have made it much easier to trade for an early pick.

When trading of picks starts again, they will have another option then. Trouble is that there are probably going to be less willing pick trade partners now.
Need to be mindful of possible 2 father sons next year plus a good NGA prospect in young Cole

I suspect our future 1st will be on the table as long as Sanders is available.
It would be a difficult trade as we need a future 2nd but lets say its GWS :

In: 7, 16, F2nd
Out: 13, 21, F1st, 2x F3rd

I can't see that getting it done either.
I think we're stuck.

I agree that we could try trading with Geelong if Sanders is still there at 8 .. but i also guess it would cost a lot.. Geelong will demand more like

In: 7, F2nd
Out: 13, F1st

I also doubt we would pay that much but i would say that is how much it would cost.. making it. a low likelihood deal

Be interesting to see if the Boss’s proclamation of ‘mids, mids, mids’ remains in focus if Wilson and Windsor are off the table, which I think they will be.

Charlie Edwards looks like a Paddy Dow with a decent boot. Wouldn’t mind at our second pick.

Still not convinced George Stevens running power translates to the RtB turnover, rebounding game plan. He would literally have to become a clearance beast to hold a spot.

DeMattia with our first, Charlie Edwards with our second, Stevens at 40 if he’s still there.

As you mentioned it would now cost way too much to move up the draft order, all the clubs with top 10 picks will have love for certain players. I also get the feeling the Saints are pretty happy with where they sit and having two "1st round picks". I think thats in line with the clubs opinion they can get two very good players with their first 2 picks.

I have posted a heap of kids I like, but Toce` and Roughead will have our first 2 picks nailed down. Pick #40 they will take a slider and/or may look to fill a positional need. I also hope on draft night once other clubs start passing (most likely in the 50's), that the club looks at a late pick swap to grab another rated player who might have slid through. Its also possible that we keep a list spot open to have a look at some train on players like we did last year.

Then there are two players Tom Highmore and Dan McKenzie whose futures are unknown contract wise. Obviously DMac is in Germany trying to address his calf issues, but we may have more list spots open up than we expected? Depending on where they sit will dictate whether we take 3 or 4 picks at the draft/s.

Mike are there any updates on how they are tracking? Boston Everitt was miles off last year in the games I saw him play. I havent seen Frankie Peckett's son at all. Cole being a mobile tall I think we will be lucky if he gets past pick #40 next year.

If we retain our current picks, I would target Darcy Wilson with pick #13, then with pick #21 take whoever is available out of Ollie Murphy, Archie Roberts, Charlie Edwards and Will Green

Would imagine this will be close to the mark. Windsor sounds the preferred option though but I think next pick you might be on the money.

I've read few saying that we like him including Stavro from memory.
We probably do, along with many others I guess.

It feels like we always think we have a preffered option but it tends to be mostly be wrong, going all the way back to Rhys Matheison.

Chesser and Sinn a more recent example, when we passed on both and went NAS.

I think it's impossible to say we have a preffered option without knowing how the draft will fall, especially with such a late pick.

Sticking with the Sandy boys…Murphy and Edwards would be a dream result. Don’t know how we get it done

I agree there is a strong chance we will picks local lads - but I would rather others than Murphy. I see him as an Oscar Adams clone, who is very thin and doesnt have the frame to build the strength to play well at the next level for years. With his lack of muscle he is very much a long term project player. If we are seriously looking at a key defender with pick #40 a kid with a huge upside is Zane Zakostelsky (Cla, 196/89, KD). The WA kid who was a late stand out with a big body and fantastic athletic traits.

Simon Lethlean suggested throughout the year that he wanted to make Moorabbin the bayside recruiting zone, so I think within reason we will keep a local flavour at the draft again. Particularly on the back of the Dragons successful years, you cant bottle players who have come through winning successful junior development programs. They just know how to win and what it takes to get there, it becomes ingrained in their in psyche. Plus adding more local lads to our already strong bayside past recruiting, Geelong have been doing it for years with endless sucess.

Accordingly the Sandringham kids to consider are - Charlie Edwards, Archie Roberts, Harvey Johnston, Will Lorenz, Will Brown, Luke Lloyd & Vigo Visenti. The Dandenong players we could also look at are - Harry DeMattia, Billy Wilson, Cooper Simpson & Sam Frangalas (all mids).

Just like the cluster of SA lads we have added to the list I think building a list with kids with local ties or clusters from other states has a lot of merit.

It’s such a typical Saints story to have dozens of young stars mentioned on these pages only to have the name of someone who’s never been mentioned called out.

“And with their first pick St Kilda selects Myles Van Knackersby from the West Whittington Wackjobs”

WTF?

Never mind, Shifter will still say “the Saints got a beauty there” [emoji2957]

Would we be able to get him as a father/son?

To be fair, the Van Knackersby family does have a rich family football history.....

Everett & Peckett would need to come on significantly to get drafted…I’ve heard good things about Cole, hoping sanity prevails & the AFL change the current bidding qualification for NGA’s!

Agree.

If the AFL want parity with the recent and expected future sucess of the Northern Academies they either need to completely scrap all access to academy players for all clubs or allow the non northern clubs better access to their own academy players eg following Top 20.

The AFL do not want parity with the northeast academies. They are there to provede a leg up to those clubs.

lateish picks in a meh draft.

No pressure Toce.

I don't mind our first 2 picks I think there'll be some gems in there and one for a slider or Mannagh. Guys like Moir, Philactides, Freija all fell away this year and should go late. Jiath and Lual both late draft potential too.

Thats a cynical outlook but possibly true - either way the AFL have said they will be reviewing the academies, the FA compensation and points systems. It will only take the big clubs to start making more noise, the same as they did with salary cap allowances to bring change.
