I think we should be having a serious look at boosting our ruck stocks. With this in mind we might have a good chance of picking up Wil Green, a 204 cm ruckman from the Northern Knights or maybe Mitch Edwards from WA who is apparently even taller at 206 cm.
Rowan Marshall had a great season last year, but his strengths are more around the ground and his marking, not so much in winning the actual ruck contests.
In my view if we are to have designs on actually winning a premiership, we need to improve our ruck strength and I think recruiting another young ruckman has a lot of merit.
It sounds like a great draft to pick up a ruck but the club does have a lot of faith in nearly 21 year old Max Heath. He's filled out to 97kg and about due to start pushing for a senior berth. Also depends somewhat on how the club sees Isaac Keeler's future.

At the end of the day if a ruck is the best available we could do worse than picking one.

Rucks take so long and with so few picks I'd rather wait and grab one from the VFL later.

Windsor is my choice, might make it to us and I’d be happy to move up a few spots to grab him. This kid has some class, real in game speed and some X factor. I’d rather add one genuine potential A grader than two B but if he’s gone there’s still plenty of talent I agree with the posters keen on edwards he looks like a good fit. Wilson in another likely kid and I’m sure there are quite a few more. I’m more relaxed after toce has nailed it two years running I actually have some confidence in our drafting now.

I watched a few sandy games and I was impressed with heaths hands and smarts. He’s the sort of kid who may get a little stronger and really break out imo. Keeler is more forward than ruck and certainly has some class and tricks, he needs to get fit and build his tank. He’ll have more impact when he can get to more contests, still I’d rather that than another try hard without the skills.

AFL website stating we could have 5 to 6 picks in the draft.
How?
We currently have 4, & I suppose the pick 92, will come down below 60?
Highmore & McKenzie, could still be cut? but do they instantly turn into draft picks?
And there is the Rookie draft & PSD.
We have currently cut ties with 7 players
Added 2 plus a Cat B
Do the Maths?

Sos said we will taking 3 picks.

Yeah, he's not like a slippery opportunist or pressure forward but he's a goal kicker and attacking player. Hard to make a good comparison.
Tholstrup probably a better forward player from a pressure defense perspective?

My latest Draft Picks?, might & probably will change.

1. C.Tholstrup- 186cm-86kg, gives us a point of difference in the forward line
2. C.Edwards- 191cm-85kg, Midfield-quicker & a better kick than Owens, leave Owens forward where he is too clever.
3. T.O'Leary- 181cm, big tank, wing or H.F. clever around goals

Did you watch Charlie Edwards highlights, or Tholstrup or DeMattia all are quick and burst out of stoppages. Collard is another who is a lightning quick small forward/midfielder. Yes we might miss out on the higher rated kids in Sanders, Wilson or Windsor but there will still be plenty of talent available around our picks.

It will in large part depend on who the other clubs take.

We should get good players with our first two picks. I am just hoping for some pure inside mids, but we may well get hybrid mids or other positions instead..

Remember even when we took Mccartin over Petracca we claimed we were taking “the best available”.
That was bullshit, and symptomatic of our poor list management at that time.. Petracca was always the best available , "once in a generation" pick. Whereas Paddy was the "key position players are hard to get pick".

Does anybody know what the AFL website are saying with the Saints likely to be one of the most active on Draft nights, likely to use 4 or 5 pucks
Kiwis?

But yes if everyone else bails out there might be some decent late picks that are not that late. But we do not as yet have that many list spot vacant do we?

Any player off the primary list turns into a draft pick. Though we might also keep a spot for the PSD if there is anyone we fancy.

A rookie into a rookie pick.

With the Irish player our 2 Cat B spots are full. (The AFL Website had an article stating 3 Cat B spots, bit it was wrong).

I did an example of possible 2024 AFL & VFL sides in the trade thread. The one thing that stood out was our lack of genuine small forwards if Butler or Higgins get injured. Henry, Byrnes & possibly Hotton could fill in, but I still think we need a genuine 'lightning bolt' quick small forward in
the Collard mould or as you suggested Mannagh with a late pick.
Not strictly draft related, but really hoping they try Zac Jones in this role (with occasional 5 minute bursts in the middle as required).

Has the tank to get up and back with the ball. Wont shirk a contest, puts another solid body around King, Caminiti, Pou etc, and means we have someone at Kings feet who tackles to 'hurt.' Too often we are a sitting duck for intercept markers. I want the likes of Ryan, Lever, Stewart looking over their shoulder more often

Kicking is not 100% of course. But IMO our need for a Hamill / SPP style enforcer outweighs that. And hoping this type of role might help his body stay together better. Also frees up Mitch to play more time in the guts

Yeah I think keeler is more Buddy than paddy Ryder. Could be a very good foil for max king if on. Don’t see him doing much centre bounce woor

Yeah l completely agree about this. We were impotent in thst area this year and Jonsey could fill that need pretty well.
