Not a Coffield replacement.
Needs to grow another 3-5cm.

Most of the reviews i've seen describe him as a "third tall". So that would pretty much place him in Highmore territory.
No-one is talking much about his game style , apart from saying how good his kicking is.
The highlights i saw seemed to be mostly kick ins. Which would have padded his stats up too. His teammates also seem to dish it off to him when they can.
Still he seems to be more than a one dimensional "short" key defender. Doesn't seem lost on the wing in his highlights.

I'd like a mid, but i'm not over the moon about any that will be available to us.
----------------------------------------------
With claims on being the game’s next ‘superboot’, Arie Schoenmaker is a prospect whose 1-wood gets a whole lot of use. The left-footed defender impressed as a bottom-ager last year, cutting his teeth down back under the guidance of eventual Tasmanian draftees Lachlan Cowan and Tom McCallum.

After featuring in the Under 17 Futures showcase on AFL Grand Final day, big things were expected of his top-age campaign. Though, an off-field indiscretion saw Schoenmaker suspended from the Devils program for 10 games, meaning he was made to start his season with Launceston in the Tasmanian Football League.

The 18-year-old quickly made up for lost ground upon his Coates Talent League return, posting remarkable numbers to earn a call up to the title winning Allies side. He impressed in two games at representative level, encouraged to play to his strengths and even showcasing his versatility with time on the wing.

Schoenmaker also rolled through the ruck in the back-end of the Devils’ season, helping them take out a maiden minor premiership and reach the preliminary finals for a second year running. Lauded for his long kicking, he participated in Fox Footy’s Longest Kick competition and rounded out a busy year at the National Draft Combine.

ESPN 1st round Phantom;

17. St Kilda - James Leake

An even spread past the top 10 means the Saints won't have a great indication of who will be available at this spot, but Leake has the talent to go much earlier than at 17. The Tasmanian swingman is a smooth-mover with a high impact game, whether it's intercepting and rebounding off halfback or kicking bags of goals up forward. He plays above his 186cm in the air and his work rate, competitiveness and smarts will quickly make him a Ross Lyon favourite.

26. St Kilda - Charlie Edwards

A local Dragons product with an impressive athletic profile, Edwards has a great speed-endurance blend at 190cm. The inside midfielder had a strong back half of the year on his way to a second Sandringham premiership and would bring complementary speed to a midfield mix including Jack Steele and Brad Crouch.

St Kilda

Picks 13, 21, 40, 92

Favourable Jade Gresham compensation gives the Saints two nice picks to work with. Liam Henry satiates the need for outside running power but Darcy Wilson or Caleb Windsor would be nice pickups. Key defensive depth is much-needed and local product Ollie Murphy is a chance there, while later in the piece the competitiveness of Koltyn Tholstrup, Harry DeMattia or Charlie Edwards will appeal through the middle of the ground for Ross Lyon's men. St Kilda is set to be active at the draft with up to five spots available.

Love this guys boot. Battle is a lovely field kick too for a big man. Would be nice to have such good ball users of different types across the backline. Nas, Battle, Schoenmakers, Sinclair, Webster. Pretty froth disposal.

That would do me.

What's everyone's thoughts on Arie Schoenmaker?
Just thinking about losing Coffield, the Highmore delisting etc.
194cm/90kg booming left peg. Touted to go roughly around our pick I think?
I certainly wouldn't bork at the idea...

From ESPN draft power rankings:

"15. Arie Schoenmaker (14)
Tasmania Devils/Allies
DEF/MID, 194cm, 89kg
Talent League: 8 games, 27.0 disposals, 5.9 marks

Schoenmaker is the best kick in the draft, effortlessly launching it 60 metres when he wheels onto his left foot out of defence. He has third tall size at either end of the ground, but his ability to find the ball in space and kickstart transition is invaluable for the Devils. Schoenmaker averages six more kicks than any other player and is a genuine driving force as a key defender "

Would be the first Arie to pull on the jumper, so long as people don't get him mixed up with Artie Thomas (mid) who was a weapon for us after coming across from Brunswick.

While I dont know anything about any recruits, I don't want another eff'ing HBF'er as a first pick. Best mid, then second best mid, please, I beseech thee. Just for once pick up some frigging mids.

Agree but Leake seems to be a bit more versatile than simply a HBF.

DeMattia or C.Edwards the mids with our 1st pick, doubtful they make it to our pick 26
W.Dawson, O.Murphy, A.Shoenmakers, Statelkelsky? KPD's we could pick up with the 3 picks
Green or Goad the Ruckman.
Collard, Delean, O'Leary, River Pheonix Gothard or Sanchez the small forwards
A.Moir, D.Wilson or K.Tholstory the med. forwards.
Freijah or Windsor the wingers.
R.Hardeman, T.Jiew, L.Lual, A.Roberts, K.Shipp the h.b.f's
L.Charleson, small mid.

Is it worth taking a mid at our first pick though? The top end quality for mids seems to sit inside the top 10 this year however top line players in other positions may still be available in the teens.

For KPD depth- James Borlase? from the Crows, only 192cm, but packs a punch with 101kg.
Has been delisted but promised a rookie spot with the Crows.
We could pick him up with our 4th pick? & offer him 1 season on the main list? with a trigger for a second.

Of those probably available at our 1st pick, its Charlie Edwards by 10 lenghts.

After that, best available by all means but we still need a small forward and a key defender, and there's a good selection of small forwards so unless something else very good slides through, it's Phoenix Gothard.

Pick 40 is a lucky dip but there's often a couple a gems if you look past needs.

Hey Mongrel Punt. This is the dream scenario!

If Wilson and Windsor are gone the best mids at our picks are Charlie Edwards and demattia hands down, if we can get one great but if we get one and the other is still available at our 2nd pick we need to take him, if not go with a tholstrup, collard, gothard with our 3nd pick and hope a back man slides to our 3rd pick or trade up .. our fwd line is missing a speedy small forward with can get the ball more than 10 times a game and kick some goals would force butler and Higgins to get better to keep their spot also

Demattia has been used more as a speedy half back rather than a pure out and out midfielder. I rate him but recruiters seem to think he’s a half back at the next level

Thanks for the info, haven't heard that and the ao called experts on the draft threads think he will be a mid but hopefully we get Charlie Edwards 1st pick and go from there... if we can get one of demattia, collard, gothard, tholstrup with our 2nd we will be in a good place to grab a slider with the 3rd hopefully its ZZ Or moir

Yes, he wasn't brought directly back in for a final after 6 weeks out with a broken wrist where the back-up doing a solid job.

But if the coaches believed that he couldn't dispose the ball, couldn't defend one-on-one, struggled mark the ball and was just the general liability as has often been mentioned, why was he the first choice and selected every game until injury struck? That would suggest the coaches rate him in some capacity.
If Dougal starts to play within his strengths and limitations, he’ll benefit both himself & the team

I’m a Shoenmaker fan…Edwards 1st pick and him 2nd would be good

Mongrel punt has us taking two small forwards (collard + delean) with our first two picks. Whole article was called the "dream scenario" for each club,

And I cannot disagree more, maybe one of them, but surely a KPD and a midfielder is priority.

Would’ve thought a mid and a tall defender would be more appropriate
