Get over it.

The flag bought him plenty of credits but I’d never go as far as saying Taylor has my “full confidence”.

Weid/Curnow was Aaron Fiora over Matthew Pavlich level bad.

Also, no I won’t get over it.

Either you just say free agency contracts are locked in OR just scrap compo all together if teams are going to take the piss.
Or maybe if you get a free agent you have to pay your first draft pick/second draft pick etc depending on how much you spend to the team you take it from I dunno.

Maybe just make it that bottom 4 teams can't lose free agents or something I dunno. It sucks but there's no way a good player is going to north as a FA so really it'll only be top teams picking off bottom ones with no compensation
I think the fear of bottom clubs becoming feeders via free agency is overblown.

North have had an anchor strapped to themselves for like 6 years and this is what the first free agent they're losing?

And the AFL can just pull a free top ten player out of their arse anyway so why even bother with compensation. Just cut out the middle man at that point.

Young talent walking and the stupidly compromised draft are bigger concerns.

You just said earlier that if you can hit 50% with talls you're above average. So maybe hold him to your own standards.

No recruiter has a spotless record. Curnow was passed on 11 times before he was picked. Shit happens. He found JVR with pick 19 in 2021 who is currently the most promising forward of his draft.

Probably but that's because they have no good players that are in the free agency bracket. I think the main problem isn't necessarily the bottom clubs losing players it's that who the **** would want to go to them. They need to be able to pay less of the salary cap so they can offer Petracca 2.5m a season if they want to.

Offering 100k more than us because of salary restrictions ain't gonna cut it

Yeah I agree that's the other thing the salary floor is way too high.

All they can do is offer 400k players 700k. If we offer Trac 900 he ain't going to North for 1.2. They need to be able to offer 2 million plus because then it's an actual decision

Most footy forum hack posters knew Curnow was going to be a champion off 3 minutes of highlight videos.

There are difficult calls but sorry that was a lay up. 🏀

BigFooty hack posters should be running the recruiting of a third of the comp then I guess.

Jason T lost my ‘full confidence’ on talls with the Weideman over Curnow selection. Sorry everyone but that’s just how I feel.

The chasm between those two talents is just unreal. It’s the Grand Canyon of chasms and our head recruiter couldn’t see it? I mean really … WTF?
That was a miss that another 12 or so clubs made as well.

Taylor’s strike rate is elite.

I wouldn't rank it as elite. He's been good but not elite.
Oliver was a Roos pick and Weid sucked.
He nailed Jackson Pickett and Rivers
Then there's a lot of meh. Heap of terrible rookie picks, Mcvee an elite pick.

JVR looks another Gem

Certainly not elite though.

We wanted a key forward at pick 9 and it was a straight up choice between Weid & Curnow/McKay.

He f…..d it up. Just own it.

I agree with TK. Good recruiter but not elite. He’s not Stephen Wells that’s for sure.

Fritsch (31), Sparrow (27), Petty (37) and Chandler (rookie) all pretty good for non first-rounders, too.

Sparrows definitely meh. Jurys still out.
Fristch was in the VFL side but can't say that wasn't his idea. Petty was good yeah.

He's certainly not elite.
I'd say there's a few recruiters above him

You look at players available around the mark of all his picks and Weid is probably the only real stand out miss.

Also notoriously tried to trade up to get Butters.

Hawthorn currently has around 10 quality best-25-on-list players their recruiters nailed between picks 35 and 60 and via Rookie drafts. Their re-build is seriously impressive and they’re doing it off the back of a few premium picks combined with a slew of gems they’ve identified at later picks. Now that’s elite recruiting.

Jason Taylor’s strike rate from round 3 onwards and Rookie picks is okay. Certainly not great. A lot of misses in there.

Yeah but the argument isn't that he's a failure, it's that he's elite.
I don't think he's elite. Elite would make you the best or second best in the job he ain't that imo

Does the recruiting team go in to the soft cap, I don’t think it does? Always thought this was an area the wealthy clubs could flex their financial strength by putting more eyes on the ground. Not sure if the soft cap put an end to that.

Hi Guys, sorry for the intrusion. Quick question. Would you trade picks 5(6) and ~16 (20) for Jeramy Cameron?
No
