The problem with trading Petty this yr is it leaves us with no one else to pair with JVR. If we hold him til 2025, hopefully Jefferson is rdy and then Petty can leave as a F.A and we'd likely get a 1st round pick for him given Ade have offered 800k a yr. That's the same as McKay so we'd get a 1st for him in that situation.

Unless Ade offers Fogarty, Thilthorpe or Tex we should hold Petty and see if we can change his mind and if not he leaves in a yr a or two. We only have a yr or 2 more of being In our premiership window and given the club is intent on not drafting a lot of young talent and extending our window it's ludicrous to trade Pet now.

Update on potential picks.

A ball magnet who’s played at a consistently high level across multiple grades during his draft campaign, Sanders was interviewed by multiple clubs at last week’s combine, with the Bulldogs and Melbourne showing particular interest in him.

The Demons are keen to move up the order, but if they hold their spot and Melbourne Grammar graduate Sanders is still on the table, he’d be hard to pass up, considering there’s a rival-club theory the Dees are looking for a ball-winner this off-season.

The Dees might also look at drafting Curtin with their first pick should he still be available, while mid-sized Northern Knights forward Nate Caddy – the nephew of premiership Tiger Josh Caddy – could come into the mix too. Although sources believe the Demons would more likely look at Caddy with their second first-rounder.

Melbourne, at this stage, looms as the first possible bidder for Gold Coast academy ruck Ethan Read – a freakish 200cm prospect who ran a ridiculous 2km time of 5:56. If the Dees don’t bid on him, don’t expect him to slide past Geelong.

My preferences for our first pick:

Would be happy/very happy
1. Trading up for McKercher (he is absolutely, without a doubt, what our midfield needs)
2. Trading up for Reid (jet, but he'll cost a fair bit more than McKercher)
3. Holding our pick and using it on Curtin if he slips through (big value if he does)
4. Trading up for Duursma (still really like him, just not quite as much as McKercher and Reid)
----
Decent consolation
5. Holding pick and drafting O'Sullivan
----
Meh
6. Holding pick and drafting Sanders
----
Would take some convincing
7. Holding pick and drafting Caddy
----
Full blown melt territory
8. Trading up for Watson

Why would we even be trying to move up the draft if the guys in our sights are all likely to be available at our pick anyway?

If it's a choice between selling the farm for Reid, subdividing the farm for Watson or sticking fat and picking Sanders then get West Coast on the phone please.

2nd for McAdam when we got a 3rd for Harmes shows how Lamb bends over on every trade.

Also giving up an additional pick to move from 14 to 11 is another example

Would be nice to walk away thinking “we won that trade” just once

Only way taking Sanders makes any sort of sense is if you've given up on Oliver, and even then it doesnt really.

Would be such a Dees pick though. Genuinely scared we do it.

Take Sanders and play Sparrow and Viney as HFF for the season

Would pretty much be the nail in the coffin for me regarding Goodwin, would show hes stubborn ****wit, still stuck in 2021. Lost cause.

Could be a way to transition Trac to a permanent forward role, but yeah, doesn't really inspire as he's much the same as Viney and Sparrow (though will be quite a bit better than the latter).

Bet it happens. We looked at the finals and thought we didn't dominate stoppages enough and to get back to our DNA

Not the same. Harmes was effectively a salary dump, and holds no value after his last two years. McAdam is wanted by his current club, plays a position of need and averages a goal and a half per game as a small forward, which makes him, comparatively, a more valuable player than Harmes who gets ~15 meaningless touches as a mid/half-forward presently.
