Thought he and Rogers were standouts in the match v our 2s.
Very good young player, whole package is really good for a player of his size, footy smart good skills wins his own ball great offensively and defensively evasive and poised creative chains/linkups…
Gold Coast have a good one…

For the people who watch a lot of VFL, what makes someone like this kid not more sought after? What parts of his game do clubs not think will make him a handy 3rd or even back up tall? Hasn’t even managed to get a single game at GC, averaging 2.8 goals and 17 disposals per game.

Still can't decide if this kid is an absolute jet in the making or just a junior prodigy. Seems to be getting better and better playing through the middle and plays the game at a very high speed, just something about him that doesn't do it for me idk.

He is notably far better up forward than any of the other mids in this draft. Huge leap and very strong hands in the air.

Not really sure where the hype is coming from with Wilson. I just don’t see it… reminds me of Dow. Just a very good clearance mid who has a little forward craft. Haven’t seen anything that indicates he’s a transition type of player which we need.

Duursma is ferocious at the ball, good size, fast and strong overhead.
Caddy will likely be gone at our pick and there is a need for a dynamic HFF that can also spend time on the ball.

I'm not trying to sound insulting but that couldn't be further off the mark...Wilson is almost the complete opposite player to Dow. Plays majority on the wing and half forward and has only just shifted into the midfield this season for the Bushrangers. Plays wing and half forward in all the champs games and even for the Bushrangers tends to skirt the contests as a first receiver and then runs all day up and down the corridor.

Wilson's a powerful long striding runner like Isaac Smith and a kick first footballer. Not sure if he shares any similarities with Dow tbh.

I’ve seen the vids of him. Everything was from stoppages as a first hands player.. do you have anything on video that shows otherwise?

Would say these two are more his usual games. Tiny bit of time inside in each but mainly hard running on the outer, trying to create chains and kicking long.

2nd half of this season he's moved more on ball due to his great acceleration but he's a more natural wing and half forward, even half back at times. AFL level he'd get thrown around like tissue paper on ball.
First quarter of the first vid is pretty rubbish if I'm honest, builds into it as the game goes on.

Yeah I just don’t see it the same way after watching the vision but I’m happy to agree to disagree.

These are a couple of his draft profiles

'Wilson oozes class and excitement and is blessed with a wonderful mix of speed and endurance. Does his best work with Sherrin in hand, and his marking is also a strength, but he needs to improve his contest work'

'An outside midfielder with a bag of tricks and craft, Wilson has rocketed into first round calculations with his start to the season. He's kicking multiple goals each game for the Bushrangers and was one of AFL Academy's best two weeks ago, where he dominated his wing in a scrappy, wet game'

More than welcome to say that you don't rate him but he's definitely not a clearance midfielder like Dow. Racks up marks every game through his running to space and link up play which is one of the big criticisms of Dow.

Anyway as you said, agree to disagree, Wilson and Freijah are probably the first two 'outside' mids picked in this draft.

God he moves well, kicked 2.5 for the game though

I reckon the eagles will trade down, not with us, but I reckon they will.

I wouldn’t mind being associated in a 3 team deal to snag a pick or player. Feel like we could easily be some sort of player in that realm of the offseason

Most likely trading down with GWS which imo helps our chances at snagging a good player that we need as they'll prioritize getting Curtin and Edwards.

Imo we just need to finish below 12th to secure one of Mckercher or Duursma

How come O'Sullivan isnt getting more love, one from the draft circles but also more specifically from this board.
I think we need a young developing KPD and he would be perfect.

If we can get that extra 1st, id be targeting him along with a medium forward or mid/forward

Think for me the main reason is that I simply don't see him improving our team in the short term. Unlikely to play ahead of Weitering, Young, Kemp or Mcgovern in his first years and even if he was we've already seen the flaws of our team hold us back when we had Jones and Weitering forming an impenetrable duo down back, we still stunk.

We know our list flaws - Speed, kicking skills and a 3rd goal scoring option up forward. While having a developing KPP of his talents would be beneficial long term I don't see it doing anything for us next season or the season after while we are trying to make the most of our senior cores primes.

If we could hit our targets and address our midfield speed, kicking skills and a dangerous forward and then also had a pick to get O'Sullivan I'd be more than happy with him as a pick, but I'd be prioritizing fixing those issues before considering a long term replacement for Young etc.

I’ll give you Curtin as a West Coast priority with an element of versatility, but struggle to see Edwards as high a priority as the midfield. They have Bailey Williams showing some maturity this season, Callum Jamieson developing OK, and invested pick 23 on Harry Barnett, arguably the best prospect in last year’s draft. Not impossible as Barnett could be regarded as a KPP option at a pinch.

The ongoing perception that Reid would not want to stay in the west if drafted there may be misguided. It depends what will motivate the youngster. If he has to go interstate, GWS with a perennially tight salary cap isn’t going to be able to pay him the same as what might be on offer in the west. Who among their younger players is going to command massive coin? If he can show what is expected, he could get seven figures for his second contract with the Eagles.

Yeah fair opinion and i can definitely see your point. Not that i think we are miles off but i probably see our list a bit differently to you and think we are probably a little longer away and a mini refresh is required, therefore brining the longer term needs earlier.

I could see him being brought in if one of Weitering, Kemp, McGovern, Young, are out (or off the list). He wouldnt be relied upon to be the key number 1 back as i would assume at a minimum we have weitering and kemp back there helping out.

I do agree its not the main focus, and i would only look at getting him if we had an extra 1st and used that pick on a player like you have described.
Ideally we would get in addition to our 1st someone else in FA/trade to bring in more of those speed skill based players. Giving us the ability to look long term at the same time and getting a player like o'sullivan

Yes all good points. Personally think they'll trade Reid only on the basis that GWS will make them a deal they can't refuse. GWS is stuck in a perpetual loop of paying multiple first round draftees overs each year once their initial deals expire. Remember a player agent pretty much saying the expected 2nd contract for any first rounder is about 400-500k based on their potential and it doesn't tend to wiggle too much either way. Similar to what we've reportedly been paying Dow on the same principles.

If GWS go to the draft with 3 firsts again they'll be paying 1.5mil to that group amongst others within 2 years which continually keeps them in a squeeze based on potential instead of performance.

Taking Reid helps GWS with their cap space and gives them an elite prospect so I think they'll be really pushing hard for a trade up with WCE.

Anyway I don't know what clubs will do but I'd be happier with GWS trading up for the pick than I would WCE keeping him purely because I think Curtin being snapped up with WCE first pick guarantees us one of Duursma or Mckercher, both of whom I think really suit us.

A lot to play out this season before we lock in a type or specific player from the top end of the draft. If the “new” combination of Weiters, Gov and Kemp continues to get things done and enhance connectivity and/or rebound, that leaves us with Young as KPD depth along with Nigel and even possibly the unlikely retention of Marchbank if he can play out the year. If McGovern and Marchbank were to depart, even Durdin, it creates a different dynamic. I am among posters who believe Kemp’s skillset will transcend a tall defender role, so that may suggest backman.

O’Sullivan is a great prospect as a defensive leaning key swingman who can also ruck. Surely with the modern game more inclined to have all defenders having “offensive” weapons, Curtin would be our preference. The other option would be a little more third tall in Patton, who may slip to the second round.

Still thinking a forward hybrid player to add to our attack is our greatest short term need.
