An aerial view of the (Mount Barker) Summit Sport and Recreation Ground for the round 5 clash v the Kangaroos can be found here:

EDIT - not sure if this link works, please let me know.
Got a lot of work to do in the coming months I would hope

Our first 4 games are all reasonably tough encounters. Port (A), Demons (H), Dogs (A) & Pies (H)
We must win away against Port in round 1. The round 1 games can be difficult to win irrespective of the oppositions previous year's ladder position.
Our round 1 results the previous 5 years have mixed results.
2022 Port (H) W, 2021 Swans (H) L, 2020 Hawks (A) L, 2019 Eagles (H) W & 2018 Saints (A) L. Total 2 wins & 3 losses.

At the end of round 4 i would settle for 2 & 2 but hope we can front up to the round 5 Mt Barker game 3 & 1. That would be a good start to the season.

3 / 1 I am going as well.......worried about Dogs away with some height finally.

Squigglies are back for 2023. These are the aggregates at this stage, which probably won't change too much between now and Round 1, given most of the models are usually relatively similar:

So as a couple of others here have mentioned, most models have us around the 5-8 mark, which we feel undersells us a bit. This is what a 12-goal loss in a Preliminary Final does to your rating - the fact that Geelong beat Sydney by even more the following week doesn't come into it. On the balance of probabilities above we have 13 wins, on an absolute basis (green vs red above) we finish with a 15-8 record, which is unlikely to be enough for a top 4 berth. We're gonna need to flip a few of those reds to greens. Tricky start, tough finish.

Traditionally, 4th has oscillated between needing 15 and 16 wins, so it will be interesting to see whether 16-7 cuts it in 2023.

Meanwhile, from a list management perspective, we are, just like our membership slogan, "all in". 3rd oldest list in the comp, the oldest we've ever had - first time our average age has been above 25. Now is our time.

Most if not all of the models have come online now... there are 25 for Round 1 and 15 running right the way through to Round 24. Nearly all of the changes, either new models or existing models updating for new intel, have been favourable to us. We've gone from an expected 13.01 wins above to 13.64 wins. Notably, the balance of probabilities now has us beating St Kilda in Melbourne, flipping us from 15 to 16 wins, and, one would expect, a top 4 spot.

A 5-minute slot on the ABC today on the Mt Barker game
Nothing groundbreaking.
Still in the process of erecting temporary seating but did not say how many it would hold.
They are in the process of erecting new goal posts.
And a few things about activities in the area and expecting around 10K visitors over that weekend.

Some drone shots of the works at the Mount Barker ground

ground looks good, hope the coverage is good for tv viewing. some of those ad hoc setups for the preseason games were horrendous
Yep the turf looks cherry ripe. I'll keep an eye out for camera locations in the coming week.

This week, including Friday, is looking a bit wet (by SA standards anyway) so it might be a bit heavy underfoot

Still find it laughable that the AFL has found it fit to host a game for premiership points at such a sub-standard venue and location.
You're bound to find a local councillor - AFL executive link somewhere if you dig deeply enough. Or something similar.

Squiggle knocking it out of the park so far.

To that I'd add as well that it really is an interesting coincidence that both North Melbourne v Hawthorn and Brisbane v North were fixtured in shall we say off-broadway locations (Launceston and Mt Barker) where you may not get as many publications actually sending journalists.

How's everyone else feeling about Carlton? Feel like their forward line will really challenge our defence possibly more than any other team right now.
McKay and Curnow are tough matchups for any opponent, if possible I would like to see Harris left out and play as the 3rd tall so he is free to intercept... maybe Payne on McKay and one of Joyce/Gardiner on Curnow??

All comes down to the ball movement through the middle of the ground.
If we can slow them down, our defence will be fine.

To make matters worse for the AFL, Essendon’s clash with the Demons is also suddenly a major event match with both teams sitting inside the top 4 after four rounds.

With the Bombers and Demons up and about plenty believe the Saturday night fixture at the Adelaide Oval was a wasted opportunity for the game to have got a crowd of more than 70,000 at the MCG.

Several footy commentators in recent days have suggested the AFL should have made a snap decision to bring the fixtures back to Melbourne, to be played in front of a combined crowd of around 150,000 fans.

The attendance for the Magpies and Richmond game in Round 3 was more than 85,000, while the Saints’ Round 3 match against Essendon was also watched on by more than 69,000 at the venue.

It comes after football journalist Mark Stevens said last week the AFL should move the fixtures — and refund tickets and accommodation costs for fans travelling to Adelaide to watch the games.

How's this for dribbling shit

They are obviously excellent but again I question the bottom 10 players on Carlton’s list. I’m not convinced by their form so far and reserving judgment, though Walsh back is going to help a lot.
