It's a substitute for iodine.
Nurses hate it when you tell them you're allergic to the standard iodine, so they get their revenge by slathering you in this bright pink stuff, which takes 12 months to wear off.
Tinted alcoholic chlorhexidine.
Comes off reasonably quickly but immediate showers are often forbidden for a week or so post op

Anyone catch Scott's press conference?

He openly admitted they're not fully transparent with the injury list, as they a) don't want to give info to the opposition and b) these things are nuanced and can change.
Yes. Which is basically what I have thought all along. I have no idea why anyone would think any different.

And it sounds like the AFL is changing the rules around injury reporting because Geelong were taking the piss.

Oh, I missed what the changes were. was Geelong the only one doing their "style"?

No - other teams have used the same, short, medium & long term options for injured players, while earlier in the season GWS had TBC as the most common timeframe for injured players

Or if you go back a couple of weeks, apparently Carlton provided no injury report or updates for a week - they had some unhappy fans on social media

So it's not really a Geelong thing, just maybe something we've noticed about our club as we likely pay more attention to what they are or aren't doing, compared with how other teams approach things

Don't want to give the opposition info.... it's such horse shit, I hate that we try and pull the wool over the opposition eyes, even our classic late changes!

Does it ever actually work? Were dogs gonna be worried about us surprising them with Willis? Or any other team for that matter?

How regular does a late change have to occur for it to be "our classic late change"?

I understand that line being rolled out 3 or 4 seasons ago, but is it really that relevant for the last couple of years where we really haven't had that many late changes - it just seems some BS that continues to get rolled out regardless of not actually being accurate

Is it 4 late changes this year?
  • Ceglar twice the late out
  • Tuohy a late out against Essendon after undergoing a fitness test on the ground while teammates were warming up
  • Rohan a late out against Brisbane, where I have no doubt they wanted him to play & wanted to give him every opportunity to do so

All teams make late changes, and not sure we actually do so more than others

Okay apologies for the BS, I can concede late changes haven't been as regular this year. My grievance has been more the game play around selection (late changes and absent information around injuries) which has been the case for a long time.

I wasn't sure if we were doing it as gamesmanship (and I didn't see the press conference) but if it was confirmed we are trying to pull a swifty over opposition I just think it's a waste of time but each to their own.

I understand that late changes are seperate to injury information but it would seem a similar approach for both.

Rohan on two crutches - that's not a hammy surely?

Was reported last week he was in for surgery alongside Jez and Blitz - presumably a clean up of ankle which was troublesome in the second half of the season.

I hope Tom Stewart is in the same boat as JC and needs minor surgery post season. He can't be playing that poorly without carrying something, surely.
Stewart would have to be one of the absolute favourites for our best and fairest this season. He made a few uncharacteristic errors in a few games. But overall, he's been a 2023 highlight for me.

Jezza just had surgery on his shoulder. He said it was hanging on by a bit of tape and could barely sleep the first few nights after he had so much pain. He's expecting it to be back to normal around Christmas time.
Much as I'm glad to hear it, Lloydy will be furious that an update like this is finding its way onto our board. Jez can no doubt expect a stern word from the sharp-dressed man when he's next down at the club.

Chris Scott was taking about not being honest about Cameron being banged up and the like. Nobody's playing ducks and drakes with VFL players who have yet to debut.

Guys like Willis and Kroger get left off the weekly wrap because it's a video put out by the media department catering to the average fan. 99% of Geelong fans wouldn't be able to pick Willis out Kroger out of a lineup. 80% have probably never heard of them.

The club realises most fans don't want half the injury update be players they've never heard of. A one off "Flynn Kroger is an exciting young guy who returns to our VFL team this week after a hip issue and we're excited to see how he goes" is fine for most fans and they don't need a weekly list of "Kroger/Neale/Conway/Willis is progressing well with his hip/foot/hamstring injury and should be back in the medium term".
