From the article below:

"For instance, it would have allowed Adelaide to list one of Rory Sloane or Taylor Walker as a veteran for 2024 and opened up another spot on their primary list. The idea was designed to keep veterans in the game without sacrificing a list spot that a youngster may have taken, with the veteran’s full payments still counted in the salary cap."

At least we only played Thommo in the 1s once in 2017. Sloane is locked in all year.

Probably not. We clearly weren't in love with Sloane this year with how often he was on the bench, seeing we only gave Sloane >70% gametime twice after round 9.

And well, Matt Crouch decided to revive his career and we also liked Matts presence on the bench.

Absolutely the perfect "player" but a poor choice by every other measure.
Unless he volunteered, we're a better club than to treat our champions with such little regard.

Sloane not retiring is pretty annoying but I'll tolerate that... I guess...

How is that any form of poor treatment? He’s said himself that he’s all about the club and what’s best for AFC and that they’ll have to ‘peel him off the walls’. This wouldn’t be treating him poorly, it’s rejoicing in his selflessness. Unless you think he’s full of $hit.

Can you elaborate? If we delist Borlase and rookie him how does that affect how many main list spot draft picks we make?
It's about delisting Borlase with the caveat of picking him up in the rookie draft - hoping nobody takes him meanwhile

If we need to or want to use three draft picks he is out of our club

We did the hard bit ‘dropping’ him to sub but couldn’t get him back into the stoppage rotation quick enough for our numerous elimination finals. If you think there’s any thought of him playing SANFL outside of returning from injury, you’ll be disappointed. This is a club culture that couldn’t bear to have ‘omit’ next to his name and won’t put him on the rookie list despite him being the most appropriate candidate.

Sloane was on the bench because he's physically incapable of running out a full game, not because they were unhappy with how he was playing.

Can we go back to age old agreement that he was big on list of coaches votes before the bye .. and then somehow disappeared after

I live in hope

Sorry, still not following. Don't we have 3 list spots available with Murray upgrade currently taking one?
Presumably would need to delist a main list player to use all 3 picks was my understanding.

We will have rookie list space for Borlase regardless?

So you’d have to wonder what overarching policy rushed him back into the most important role despite flatlining B&F votes. Our club’s selection philosophy is terminally flawed.

I think this is right:

Out - McAsey, Hately, McAdam, Doedee
In - Burgess, Murray

Leaves 36, only 2 live picks permitted at this stage.

TBH offering our 3 x 1st round picks this year for the WC F1 is growing on me.

I can't see North or Hawthorn being worse, in fact they are more likely to move up the ladder then down IMO. Freo's not great but their midfield will win them games. WC are the ones I don't see winning games in 2024. And you could argue this is the same bounty of picks the Vic teams are offering, only without giving up Harley Reid.

Could probably still snake a few SA players like Moir, Goad, Delean after pick 30 this year. But have a genuine shot at a top 3 pick in a stronger midfield draft + Welsh.

That fact that it would stitch up a Vic team and make the Vic media miserable is an added bonus!

Two things will happen.

Either we trade Pick 20 for a future two F2 or we pay out a contract and delist someone like Hamill and place them on the Rookie list if no other club drafts him. His concussion issues for mine, means he and his contract is not a better option than picking someone at 20.

For the record though, this all depends on the Crows rating of the draft. They may only have 15 players they would consider drafting if available. So that 3rd pick may not be enticing at all.

It's a little suspicious these WCE fans seem so keen to offload their F1 pick.

West Coast were awful this year mostly due to injuries, right? Presumably they'll be a fair bit better next year?

History tells us WCE know how to rebuild fast and tank hard

They are not a half measures organisation. I envy them
