List Mgmt. 2023 List Management and Trading (Part 2)

Do you have a link to the article? I can't find anything on Google or the AFL website. Not doubting you, just trying to find the article you referenced.
From the article below:

"For instance, it would have allowed Adelaide to list one of Rory Sloane or Taylor Walker as a veteran for 2024 and opened up another spot on their primary list. The idea was designed to keep veterans in the game without sacrificing a list spot that a youngster may have taken, with the veteran’s full payments still counted in the salary cap."

There's a link in the post above

Can we all just enjoy the trade period dumpster fire over at Alberton at the moment:
They've had nearly a fortnight and haven't got anything done yet. 1 day and 4 hours to go;
1. Zerk Thatcher - still no deal with Essendon and might send him to the draft
2. Ratugolea - still no deal with Geelong and might send him to the draft (to be fair, they have offered pick 25 which is reasonable)
3. Ivan Soldo - no deal yet, contracted player at Richmond.
4. Jordan Sweet - no deal yet with the Bulldogs
5. Xavier Duursma - talented wing/flank, wants to get out of Port Adelaide

I think they will get most if not all done.

Having to take a player in the draft is not ideal but I think what they have offered is fair.

It is what it is...lets hope they can trade up using 14 & 20 as say 8 & 10 at the draft would be good as we will get 2 good players in, then use late picks to grab needs to fill out the list
It's unlikely that we'll be making more than 2-3 selections in the ND, probably only 2.

I suspect they are expecting a 1st for Duursma. They will us that and spit it into a few picks. It's just the other club doesn't rate him as high.
One or 2 may fall into the PSD. I hope someone bids on them.

Oh ffs what Jenny, which part of my post was inaccurate? Care to state what you disagree with so I can point out how silly your opinion is.
Do you read your posts for how you come across?

We obviously wanted a player - but the only players we wanted were contracted. We don't just want any random list clogger. There was nothing that we wanted that Melbourne wanted to give us for McAdam.

Would rather we just took nothing in the end? What actually are you arguing we do differently?

Think they will get them done as well, but at what price? 2024/1 and a starting 22 player for 1 starting 22 player (BZT) and a bunch of b-grade fringe ones.

And when Boak, Dixon and one or two others pull up stumps at the end of next season, their 2024 draft haul is pretty thin.

So then why have stated we will only accept a player to then accept a draft pick?
We wanted a player. We can't make a player come to us. We really weren't in a position of power here. McAdam is out of contract and asked for a trade. At least we didn't just lay down on day one. Instead we asked, and asked some more.

Do you and Jenny actually read my posts or just see the name and go oh no, he’s negative again without even giving consideration as to what I posted?

I know we don’t want a list clogger.
I knew the chances of getting a player were very remote.
I am not the one stating we won’t take a draft pick but want a player.

My point is if you’re saying you only want a player, you don’t want a draft pick and then you accept a draft pick, it means the opposing clubs know they just need to wait it out and we fold. It’s not the first time and you know it. You gain a reputation and come trade time, all you’ve got is your reputation.

I’m sorry if pointing out the bleeding obvious is too much for you and Jenny. Put me back on ignore if you can’t handle a little bit of club scrutiny.

Reid letting it slip that Petty does want to come home at some point fascinates me - he’s never usually that open about things
The word is Petty wanted it to happen

Couldn’t come out and say it with 2 years of his contract left , didn’t want to burn bridges in case it didn’t happen

But definitely alot can happen in 12 months , he may change his mind or we may not want/ need him by then

But always a better chance to happen with only 1 year or contract left vs 2

Actually…
This is exactly what Duursma is worth..

Have they definitively said it? Last I saw it was still a maybe, but likely to happen.
Sure.

But it'd be a bit late for clubs list management for them to announce they can't (keep MSD rookies) on the rookie list now though wouldn't it?

What did we trade for Dawson again? Pick 14 ish? That'll be one of the best trades in our history the way he's going.

We traded #23, #37, #44, #66, #67 and a 2022 4th rounder for Melbourne's 2022 1st (#16), #33, #75

Melbourne's 1st went to Sydney for Dawson, and #33 (slipped to #36) was Soligo.

They haven't definitively stated anything yet, and the status quo situation is that MSD rookies do NOT get a 4th season on the rookie list.

Logic says no announcement = no extension (i.e. no change to the status quo).

Parnell still a Rookie isnt he for next year
At this stage he needs to be upgraded, unless the AFL changes the rules (allowing MSD players to spend 3.5 years on the rookie list).

The last media release said that clubs were "expecting" or "anticipating" that the rule change would be forthcoming, but the AFL still hasn't said anything either way.

Parnell is contracted for 2024.
