Do you have a link to the article? I can't find anything on Google or the AFL website. Not doubting you, just trying to find the article you referenced.
From the article below:

"For instance, it would have allowed Adelaide to list one of Rory Sloane or Taylor Walker as a veteran for 2024 and opened up another spot on their primary list. The idea was designed to keep veterans in the game without sacrificing a list spot that a youngster may have taken, with the veteran’s full payments still counted in the salary cap."

So this Petty chat won't go away.

So many on twitter screaming for us to throw the kitchen sink to get him, but I think we need to be realistic about how good he is and not over pay just for the sake of it.

We've had two very good years recruiting dawson and rankine and have a strong draft hand.

Petty is a good player, but he's not in the ilk of Lever/May, so to see all these calls to trade 10 and a second round pick for him blows my mind.

10 should be off the table. If we can trade 20 and 23 for 11, then maybe McAdam (who I think is probably an early 30s pick) and 11 get the deal done.

We’re also not that badly stocked in the key defence part of the ground anyway. Depends a lot on how Murray comes back, but Murray, Butts and Worrell with Keane as a back up has a lot of potential.

The issue is they’re all young and raw, however it’s important to remain patient, we are still building for 2025-30 when those guys would all be at the peak.

Petty would be a great addition but only if the price is right.

I think this more Fireman Kane BS but it would have to something like 10 and McAdam for Petty our future 2nd if were serious about this.

I love Harry and his versatility; but Adelaide having a solid backine already it seems a waste for both parties.

I do think Adelaide would be starting to get cold feet on Butts as a prospect seeing how little he's progressed in the last two years.

However, i'm not quite convinced Perry is big enough of an upgrade at the current time to be worthwhilr. So there is a part of me that also thinks this is a strange player to be after.

So you're on the fence?

Yup. Happy to change my answer to Perry is going to win 5xBrownlows if he announces he wants to come here though.

Must have only had these cold feet since mid April re-signing/extending out to 2026.

Adelaide key defender Jordon Butts has recommitted to the Crows by signing a three-year contract extension to the end of 2026.

Butts made his AFL debut in 2020 and has since become a mainstay in defence as he approaches his 50th game next month.

The 23-year-old, who stands 198cm and 96kg, regularly plays on the competition’s premier key forwards and has become a consistent and reliable performer.

Adelaide General Manager List Management and Strategy Justin Reid said Butts was an important part of the team’s future.

“Jordon’s development from being selected in the 2018 rookie draft to now holding down a key defensive position in our team has been very pleasing,” Reid said.

“He’s become a very reliable, no-fuss defender who we know will get the job done each week and we are thrilled that he’s recommitted to the Club for at least the next three seasons.”

Butts said he had formed some strong friendships at the Club and he was excited to be part of Adelaide’s climb back up the AFL ladder.

“The Club gave me an opportunity in the draft and hopefully I’m able to repay that faith in me,” he said.

“I have really enjoyed my time here, a lot of my teammates are also my close friends and each year it feels like we are building towards something special so it’s great to be part of that.”

Well considering Butts regressed in 2023, I would say we're regrettng that extension at the moment.

If he was living up to it, we wouldn't have even asked the question about Petty.

People have info /rumor of a trade etc and the responses on here are 1 you,re talking crap, 2 where is your proof so why would you bother posting ? And no sanders it has nothing to do with being critical it has to do with a certain few on this board who shout down anybody with a different point of view

If you've been on the board for a while you know who all those antagonist are, I know It can cut deep sometimes but you can place them on ignore, it's a handy tool to use when you've had a gutful.
I'm Thankful for all the rumours we get on this board, but understand there's a few who ruin it for everyone.

According to Amacca23 it was.

Look I’m all for rumours if it isn’t someone trolling and there are some notorious ones on here, why posters even discuss these scenarios puzzles me. Take Crouch 2 for example, every year he does it and yet we had pages discussing his latest attempt to troll.

Where you came unstuck is your cryptic posting where posters had to keep asking you to clarify what you meant, you also got shitty when they did. Plus you said he will be here, even if you got good intel, nothing is certain.

I’ve copped it, I knew we weren’t getting pick 2 for Crouch, I could never reveal how I knew, but I did. I was proven right.

I also got some info we weren’t getting Rankine. That was via a senior Crows official weeks before it looked like we could get him. I shared it and looked silly when we did. At the time that was the info that was shared, the official could have been playing games or things changed.

I wish some of the reputable in the knows came back as it was good intel.

Cryptic is the way it’s going to be sometimes without giving away the source/situation a person heard it in.

Usually if it’s complete rubbish they are a new account

We had pages having a crack about a cryptic rumour - which was bs from the people on hear

I get it when it’s as cryptic as 11 and 14 - but when it’s a specific player that’s not cryptic.

People just continued because of the way the information was described as being uncovered

interesting balanced perspective but its our injuries we have virtually no KPDs for round 1 next year. keane stood up ok but borlase is out of his depth and too slow at AFL level.
Think Borlase did an excellent job, well worth continuing with next season

I think we are all aware pick 10 would have to be involved in landing Petty, it more if Adelaide can wrangle gold coast into giving us pick 11 that we can use instead of 10.

But yes a deal like 10 and McAdam for Petty and a future 2nd seems plausible

If it ever got that far, Melbourne are well within their rights to Just say no he's a required player.

Don't think it will be too long before we have that answer, personally I doubt it happens this trade period unless we pay significant overs.

Bundling picks to get either GC 11 or Sydney 12 - say 23 and 26 (add in a mid 30’s if it’s GC pick received from Melb for McAdam)

Pretty good deal for us - almost like getting an academy or father son and Melbourne get a high pick for him?
