Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

What was our actual next pick in that draft?
Pick #52 I believe.

We traded out pick #10 from the Brad Hill trade along with our 2nd to Melbourne for the pick that selected Caleb Serong.

Edit. Yes we traded two picks in the fifties for a later pick in the 60s and our own future second back.

It was altered by the fact that we knew we needed to match Henry. Looking at the pick in isolation is misleading. We wouldn’t have given up the second round pick for junk picks before draft night if Henry wasn’t in the picture.
I worked it out here one day and guessed that Henry cost us something in the region of pick 28, in reality. If he wasn’t in the pool we would have had another selection in that range on the night.

I thought we had already used our second to get ahead of Carlton for young?

I actually think we overpaid for Aish.

A future second is probably fair value but you don't pay fair value for salary dumps.

It certainly isn't a disaster by any means as Aish has played well for us but maybe an opportunity missed.
Feel like Aish is a prime F/S candidate so need to get him to 100 as a minimum.

Also, I have in the basket of blokes who have at least stayed the same (or in most cases regressed - i.e. not Serong or Darcy) this year as a result of us being terrible. He was good last year.

100%, Aish feels like an example of Bell not being tough enough with non-minnow clubs. I melted pretty hard on here when that trade went through not because it wasnt fair, but because it was fair. Collingwood's cap was clearly absolutely ****ed and Aish should have been free if we were tough enough.

I remember someone reporting we were surprised at their initial demands for Aish given JL clearly knew they had to dump some cap.

If he has a son that is any good, the AFL will change the F/S rule to allow him to go to Collingwood (where Aish played exactly 50 games).

Anyway, watching Aish closely at games and he appears to be going through the motions. Possibly not really happy being stuck here as it dawns on him that by the time we are really contending, he will be into his 30's and could be finished. All while Brisbane and Collingwood are near the top of the ladder.

I like Treacy and think he's got what it takes to be at the very least top quality depth for us but the thing that erks me about him is the way he runs around giving advice to every other player around him. Encouragement is good, but for a 20yo that's learning the caper himself it comes across from the outside as arrogance to be telling others how to play and what they should be doing. Come back to earth mate, and put all your focus on getting your own game up to the desired level.
Just listened to Peels Captain being interviewed. They asked him if when Freo lose does the vibe filter through to Peel team from Freo players. He said no & that one person who really stood out was Tracey. He brought great energy & leadership to the team

The Lobb trade was fine. Actually worth it.
However couldn’t predict him and his manager to be scummy and front loaded contract obsessed.

Traded in WA players and 4 have gone back. Hill, Acres, Lobb, Hogan. Honestly WA guys are more open then Vics. Don’t forget Logue too.

Hogan should’ve been backed and allowed to change. Instead the leadership group were full of themselves. Bell should’ve got sacked after trading Hogan out to GWS.

He’s not best 22 in either these days. He’s fine. Just need to lift his game. Actually like that move bringing him here

Hogan had to go, he was in big trouble in Perth. No one wanted him to work more then me but he needed to get out of WA.

Why didn't we grab Matthew Lloyd when we had the chance?
Gotta love this one from the dumbarse brigade in the media.

The monumental stuff up of not picking up a player that wasn't realistically available in the first place.

Only way he was available is if we'd picked up zero out of contract players and went into our first AFL without any players with AFL experience other than trades and former AFL players picked from our WAFL zone (ie formally delisted players). We would've finished last and picked Lloyd pick one the following year.

Sad thing is our concessions when coming into the comp were so bad I genuinely wonder if we would've been better off doing that than what we actually did.

Would a club actually do that in practice? - not a ****ing chance whatsoever.

So is Henry worth a second rounder?
Join his mate at the Dees.
On current form he's worth like a 4th rounder. I still think he's closer to getting delisted then getting another contract.
