Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Is he? That's why I asked if we would draft him based off his season, even just this year, as a thirty year old 194cm key back from the WAFL.

I am sure he has the tank to run out the game, he spends basically the entire game on the field - but since his injury I'm not sure he has the spring or the speed to be much more than a mature body to try and keep someone honest at AFL level.

Alex Pearce is hobbled at the moment and was the better choice to man up the retirement tour of Lance Franklin - and Buddy showed him that he's still got it.

I'm not sure we would draft an 18 year old who was exactly like Joel Hamling is right now - well, maybe we would, but if his projection for what he will be later was current day Joel Hamling I don't think we call his name.

Hamling has claim on one of the luckiest, seizing opportunity, AFL careers of all time. Drafted to a club where he was way down the list for options so unsurprisingly he is delisted. He had a blinder of a 2016 after the rest of the Dog's options fell over at the end of the season, working hard and arguably was the reason they both made the grand final and won it by blanketing the opposition's best tall forward. Traded to us, signed long term, injured long term.

But if we are putting him in a list of all available options for a spot on the list, are we calling his name for 2024?

Good point, think I’d look long and hard at Ethan Phillips who was all the talk as a mature aged draftee last year but was overlooked by everyone. He’d be 25 this year, how’s he going?

Apologies if this has already been covered.

Listening to the ABC radio interview with Henry after the game on the weekend, they asked “There’s talk you might be leaving the west, are you going to stick around with Fremantle?”. To that he said, “At this stage I’m leaving it to the end of the year, obviously they’ve offered me a contract, but we’ll sort it out at the end of the year. I’m happy consistently playing footy, but in the middle of the year I was playing at Peel, so yeah…”

I’d be gob smacked if Henry stays, especially with our favourite player manager representing him. In my opinion, He’s 100% gone and we’ll play him in an attempt to drive up his price.

Langdon and Acres would be real handy to have kept imo. Good wingers are underrated. Where to from here (wing wise)….more Hughes…:tonguewink:….?
Yeah I think he's probably gone as well, especially with that stinky attitude which no doubt isnt helped having that ****head for a manager. He was playing for Peel because he was given a go and shat the bed...

Personally, his current form and age dictates at least Langdon level compensation if he leaves

If you know of a mature aged Afl ready defender who we KNOW can fill in when we get an injury then we should take him instead. We can't constantly live in the future .
I do think you have undersold Hamling's career though

He’s be easily a first rounder

Yeah. Pretty poor by him.

I think if you're going in hoping for a first, you are going to be disappointed, especially given our history in what we get for out of contract players

that would annoy me much more than Cerra or Logue. We put time into the mofo when he was s**t.
For mine, considering it sounds like it's Melbourne or Dogs, I would hope Bell is prepared to lose Henry for nothing rather than let either of those two clubs get him for anything less than the form he's showed since he's back in the team. He can join his mates at North through the PSD if it's not going to be a top 25 pick.

I suspect that we will get near enough out of the already listed tall defender options to warrant picking a player elsewhere over retaining Hamling for season 2024. We would effectively have Kuek and Hamling as two players who won't be considered for games unless two of Pearce, Cox, Ryan are injured at the same time and I would hope that playing one of Draper or Davies in that nothing but spoil role Hamling played would be adequate.

As far as underselling Joel's career. He played more games in his first season at Fremantle than he had at two clubs prior since he was drafted, with the most in the season immediately prior where a third of his played games were finals - in which he played a pivotal role filling in for the last month of the season prior after the rest of the Doggie's tall options fell over.

He has played four games since the end of 2019 and basically 70% of his entire career was played in 2017 to 2019 where Fremantle won 25 games.

He was in the right place at the right time to seize his opportunity and he did, and full credit to him, he worked his side to a flag.

Or suffer at west coast for a few years.

So is Astro a legitimate possibility?
Things “feel” right, but just be wishful thinking.

He would also provide an option for defensive coverage if one of Cox or Pearce are out.

If we lose Henry, I wonder if we draft another winger. I think we have all the pieces to replace him. Again that ****ing second round pick we gave up will bite us in the ass.

We can replace him fine, Stanley is legit, hopefully a preseason for Noddy will do him wonders and Williams shows a lot of promise even if he's a slow burn.

If we keep losing players with close to 50 or more games played and that are under 25 though, we are never going anywhere. This shouldnt even be a discussion and potentially losing a WA born NGA is ****ing ridiculous

Actually think the dogs are a good option, they have a father son iirc

They'll need to shift one of their firsts, Brisbane's? We can send Henry and some picks for it

Dogs are definitely our best option and that pick with later points (not the North 2nd) should be required if Bell decides to be a campaigner on uncontracted players for once

This is easily the most annoying thing... Losing WA players to Victoria. I mean wtf? Brad Hill, Blake Acres, Rory Lobb, Griffin Logue, Liam Henry.

Just bizarre. All have the same management group from memory which might have something to do with it but damn.

It's one of those ones where they would legitimately be looking to offload that pick anyway, so we give them some points back and they'll come to play you'd think

Rory Lobb too

Neale an SA kid leaving but not to go home, another weird one (especially as you'd think Neale ends up back in WA post career)

Henry would be a new low. It's harder when they have already lived over east. While Logue took money, he was also about playing his best spot AND he was older than Henry so he kind of had to make a choice there. Absolutely no reason to be losing Henry given he's confirmed we've offered a contract (therefore we want to keep him).

Colon is a cancer and the sooner that arseh*le retires, the better we'll be
