Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Henry is not leaving.

What is happening is straight out of the Colin Young playbook. He has upped the money stakes and is spreading threats of better deals elsewhere. He gets the response he wants, which is fear of losing the player, and everyone is talking about the player.

Henry has a close bond with his teammates, in particular, Michael Walters. He has been a significant figure in his career development as has Justin Longmuir. Henry is close to his family and does not want to leave the Dockers.

We will make a more attractive offer than the previous one, and he will sign.

Aish , Stanley , Driz & possibly Sharp to come in. Plus guys like Andy or Young could get moved over to the wings.
Henry can go along
If he nets us an early pick in the 20s and lets us package up what we have to get back into the first round.

Not a hater either, I would like to see him succeed here but also not keen on having some campaigner bleed the club out

Well the Colin Young playbook has seen plenty of players leave in recent times
Yes I agree, but in many cases they were players the Club did not believe were worth the money wanted.

Of course the Club has got it wrong in some cases but in others they have got it right. I’m not sure who his Manager is but Lazy Lobb comes to mind.

In this case I stand by my comment that Henry is not going anywhere.

Henry > A pick > Brockman > Shai Bolton 2.0

I like the idea, do you think Henry would have a bit more trade value? Being a high draft pick and his form over the last month. Henry has shown he can contribute 25+ possessions a game, although Brockman is obviously more dangerous around goal. But you would probably be looking for him to fill a similar role to Henry, it would be interesting to see if he could contribute the same amount of possessions as Liam but continue to hit the score board...

Can confirm that Wallsy has been in town this week and he left for Melbourne this afternoon with some other key personnel. Also can confirm there is some kind of strategic planning session next week.

Based on the timing of the interviews coming out I would say that the club has a strong steer on the likelihood of players signing particularly given Bells comments with Duff.

Was there anything significant recently re any player contract apart from Henry?

I have heard literally every GM say that. Don't accept anything until you see a signature on paper.

Don’t disagree but he had a level of confidence that suggest they have a good inclination. A players mind can change quickly AKA Lachie Weller.

Bell almost conceded too quickly when Duff asked him about Henry, so I could almost believe it was a negotiating tactic thrown out there in the media. Almost..

I think Michael Barlow in Duffields show yesterday summed up our list issues well. As politely as he could, he basically said that until we have moved past players like Aish, Hughes and Banfield we won’t be moving too far off the foot of the ladder.
Of course he didn’t word it exactly like that but he very subtly did by name checking those 3 (there a few more too IMO).
Barlow knows - he’s no fool.

I just don't think Aish should be in that category. He's had plenty of games executing different roles that have beein insturmental in wins.

I agree, but he has been well below his best for most of the season. Sadly not alone though...

We’re talkin bout Henry?
Henry??
We sitting here talkin bout Henry?
Not Darcy, not Cox… Henry?

My attempt of Allen Iverson ‘practice’ interview.

But seriously… we talkin bout Henry?
For real man. Too much time spent talking about this little bro, he's gone and isn't necessarily a big loss.

The main positive from this situation is we now have one less Colin Young player on our list.

I think we settle him back into the lockdown defender role, especially with walker down and possibly going to take a while to recover

It might be something we should be looking at anyway to try and get one of our mid-sized defenders into the midfield.

It’d be either Young or Chapman. Young might seem like a dumb idea but I would’ve said the same about Jordan Dawson who tbh I once saw as a pretty similar player to Young.

Hayden Young, with no harshness intended, looks more substantial and robust than some of our first choice midfielders as it is.

Jayden Pitt off both feet back there would be nice.

Also I think we’re kidding ourselves if we think the problem will be solved by replacing the bottom 3-4 players in our best 22. Tbh two of the players mentioned played a big role for us last year and we finished 5th.

Does anyone actually think we’ll have a single player in the All Australian squad? Before the injury Darcy was maybe a chance but now I can’t see any of our players making it. I realise there’s more talent/competition in some parts of the ground than others but for me not having a single player in a squad of 40 for an 18 team competition shows the bigger problem this year.

Only Serong has consistently played like an A Grader even if he’s likely to fall a bit short of the All Australian squad. Outside of Walters and maybe Jackson I’m not sure any other experienced player on our list has actually played better footy this year than last year.

Of course Brayshaw is an A Grader at his best, as are Cox and Darcy. Ryan would be if he took the game on instead of being scared to make mistakes. Young, Clark and Pearce are also very good defenders on their day but that hasn’t come enough this year.

Blame the whipping boys as much as you like but until our so called A Graders actually play like A Graders consistently we’re not going anywhere. Along with us lacking experienced players in some very important roles, lack of A graders is the biggest reason why we’ve sucked so badly this year. No one other than the same very small group has stepped up.

I don't think Hayden Young is quick enough. If we could get a bit more size onto Jordan Clark over the summer I'd be more inclined to see him in there.
