Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Wouldn’t mind having a shot at Burgess and Chol. Worthy forwards
Burgess feels like a Corbett type that won't do well at AFL level, and has been less productive at AFL level than Corbett (tho Burgess tbf has been shifted around the shop positionally while at Gold Coast).

Like the Chol shout considerably more because he's AFL proven and has elite attributes, but I can't see it happening if we are going after Logan McDonald next season. Chol's probably not a JL type anyways, tho I do appreciate that he gets the scrappy goals out the back of a pack (I swear like a dozen of his goals last season were that type). Seems like we rarely score those goals.

Grub Green is just misunderstood team. That time he put a shoulder through an umpire, all those times he's studded guys in the back going up for marks, all the suspensions and fines; it was just lack of communication.
Toby Green will go down in history as a polarising champion. Loved by some, hated by some. In exactly the same mould as Carey, Ablett Snr, Brereton etc. He pushes the envelope of fair play as these players do. I actually don't think we've seen his best yet.

Burgess is a proven spud at AFL level. Corbett was a proven to be not quite good enough but still better than Burgess.

Only thing Burgess really has going for him from an AFL perspective is that he's versatile enough to play in the ruck.

He'd be good for Peel but wouldn't add much else.

Eye gouging multiple times and kicking a player in the head is not "Pushing the envelope" but is a scum play. Yes he's talented and amazing to watch but his character isn't lost on me.

My original point regarding Toby Greene was that making him captain has de-dickheaded him so far. He has risen to the leadership role.

Pretty harsh to judge a person based on their father mate. From what I can gather he is estranged from him and probably been through a fair bit of hardship over it all. I don't know Toby Greene at all (am guessing you don't either) but he seems like a decent guy in interviews.

Maybe he is maturing, shedding his bad ways.

We all have to grow up sometime.

Put it this way, give me Toby any day, over JDG (tip rat territory).

Imagine if the Dees had taken Hogan back for peanuts off us and he’d helped them win another flag? It doesn’t bear thinking about.
Genuinely thing we would be in fold the club territory then

That would be like the scene out of 'Draft Day'. "I want my picks back, all of them". I wish we could get our picks back 😢

He's about to win a Norm Smith.

Interesting little tidbit in a hogan article

They were talking to Lachie Schulz when they took hogan but Schulz ended up staying

Hogan also met with richmond, swans and dees (again) in that time
GWS were the only one to take on his salary in full that is the reason he went for third round pick. Look we ended up with pick 52-54 which was used to match a bid on Brandon Walker at 50. Richmond were considering using their second round pick on Walker, so he could have gone anywhere around 35-50 and we would have matched using the Hogan pick.

The Hogan trade in was a disaster. I didn’t have an issue with the rest of that trade period. If we didn’t bring in Hogan we would have had Ben King and an early second round pick. We already had a second round pick which we traded up a few spots to get Valente. With the other second round pick we could have packaged up to move up the board further.

We would’ve matched Walker with our next pick anyway he’s irrelevant in all this

Not entirely irrelevant. There were posters crying about not getting a pick in the 30’s at the very least.

Hogan was a salary dump we wanted his salary gone in full gone. Only GWS would take on that risk. That fact that we got pick 54 or whatever instead of 35 didn’t make a lot of difference because we were using that pick to match a bid on Walker.

I already said the trade was a disaster.

Which of our players did we use that ex-Hogan salary on?
Serong, plus Jackson only came over because we had no drug issues compared to his old coach & 3 strikes Oliver.

We really need to the good old days of having some good picks fail so we can go back to complaining about misses rather than trades for a change up.

Key backs are in demand and short supply, and now Joel Hamling is being considered by other clubs.

We actually used his list spot for retaining David Mundy.

He had that really strong year the following season and played on.
Yes it enabled us to re-sign Mundy

We had a very tight Salary cap at end of 2021.

Some of the decisions make sense the year after but we didn’t need to lose both Logue and Acres. We tried to keep Logue but the money from North threw that out and by then we could have matched Carlto but Acres was goneski.

In hindsight that huge six year contract to Fyfe in 2017 really messed up our salary cap balance. Seems like they backloaded it too.
