Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

We should consider him if Cox was to play fulltime forward which we really should consider.

Was Ruscoe actually any good?
Fwiw the Collingwood board seem to rate him fairly well (apparently he graduated from spud in his first couple seasons to "decent player unlucky to be kept out of a very good backline" in the eyes of many fans there).

My understanding is he can play as an undersized key but is more suited to being a medium defender. If we were to bring him in, it would be as depth and/or to accommodate Chapman/Young going higher up the ground rather than Cox. For what it's worth (albeit low-ish sample size), team has sucked defensively without Chapman, and Ruscoe would come in to fill his type of role if we go for him.

If Ruscoe was good enough to take Cox's spot in the backline, he wouldn't be OOC and Frampton wouldn't have gotten games over him at the Pies.
Wouldnt have to be Cox level good in backline. I thought we looked better having Cox forward in the last round.

You don't win much with battler KPDs. I think ours are only just good enough as it is.

Cox is a better footballer than Treacy, but he's also 4 years older. We have to be patient.
Ahhhh patience. Im terrible with that haha 😅

Cox isn't moving permanently forward. He sees himself as a backman, was AA squad as a backman and has signed on long-term with the club. JL has said it was a temporary move late in the season. I don't think he would have if there wasn't some sort of understanding he would be playing back.

He is so entrenched as a back that we moved Logue who also sees himself as only a backman to the forward line and ultimately out of the club.

If we wanted Cox to move forward we would have valued Logue higher initially. We aren't bringing in Trey Ruscoe and moving Cox out of the backline.

Trey Ruscoe is one of the highest possession to score involvement players in the league based off his small selection of games this season.

Impressive considering he starts behind the ball, most other ones are forwards.
Moneyball or statisitcal outlier?

He only played 1 game this season.

I dont think there is a list spot for Ruscoe unless we are only going with only 3 draftee's (possible I suppose)
Do we plan on moving Chapman fwd and/or have we identified a specific weakness defence-wise that requires getting a medium-tall defender like Ruscoe tho? Take these stats with the healthy skepticism required given the obvious sample size issues, but the defence differential with vs without Chapman is astounding for a player that most wouldn't consider a key player right now (but should become one in the future).

Fwiw this does kinda fit my eye test that this season we get done by 3rd talls in particular.

Wing, ideally, according to his manager on the Purple Reign podcast today yesterday.

Will playing wing protect his body at all?

Less running back into backs maybe?

I like the idea of rotating him, Young and co through the midfield. It should give us more run in games, especially late quarters and late in games

That is a lot you have extrapolated from 1 single game in 2023. Only played 4 Games in 2022.

I can’t see a spot for Ruscoe. Freo just don’t seem interested.

Chapman being injured was far more influential than people seem to think. It was Chapman who pushed Logue out of the 3rd Tall/Medium defender position last year and we didn’t rectify it all year, Hughes tried valiantly until he was injured. Ryan filled the breach a couple of times but that reduced his ability to be the spare interception specialist. At the end we tried Worner, who quite frankly failed in the role.
If we are serious about moving Chapman up the ground, bringing in Roscoe would help accommodate that, however as Snuff has pointed out, we’re very limited by our list spots available.
