Review 2023 National Draft Review Thread II [McKercher, Z.Duursma, Goad, W.Dawson, Hardeman, Maley]

I'll give Nostra credit for sticking to his opinion tighter than JB Weld.

But in all honesty, if we could address all the list issues at once it would require a broken amount of draft picks to accomplish that. Ain't gonna happen.

We took the best available that will improve our base level performance and addressed holes in our list with young-raw talent that have huge upside. It's a very clever-easier way of addressing list management problems especially when the picks don't cost as much but just need a bit of love in terms of development (which we also addressed). Since the footy dept has been overhauled, it's almost impossible to determine what will happen because our previous track record is possibly invalid. But what we do know is the guys in control come from premiership winning footy clubs and that's important.

Essentially, it's clear the footy club knows what it's actually doing and had a thoroughly structured plan in place to tackle the list issues.

In other words, stfu and enjoy the ride.

Its on spotify "roos on radio" if you have it

Or here...

So we had 4 players in mind to take with our 2 picks and 2 we got . So assuming Reid was another l wonder who was the 4th? Curtin, Watson, Sanders or someone else..

You did. You said I posted ‘crap’ because I wasn’t a mind reader because I wasn’t privy to what Brady Rawling’s was going to say before he went on radio over a day later from when I originally made a comment.
Ok, well I’m happy to continue doing these calling out exchange like we did two weeks ago if you are? Surprised given that lack of time you have.

Oh dear. I can't even remember what I said a couple of weeks ago, but obviously it has got up your nose. Oh well.

Why would you even move to the GC if you were delisted? Whats mahoneys vocation outside of footy? He have a degree in a discipline? Or did he do a trade? I suppose Brisbane is going through an infrastructure boom, could land some good long term work with great wages for the olympics plus other infrastructure. Weird move

That's some weird commentary champ

It's weird.

A trade to move one spot and a couple of middling picks is rated the same as 5 of the best 23 kids available.

And it was for nothing.

I have a family connection to a bloke at the draft table for the Cats, they came to the draft to take O’Sullivan.

Dodo gave them that and a second rounder.

Yes, everyone is saying what a wonderful operator the *dodo is to pull off that trade. In my opinion the Cats took him for a ride and the *dodo looks like a bit of a novice at his last draft.

Instead of just posting absolute crap, have a listen to what Brady said on SEN this morning. Unfortunately too many people just shoot their mouths off and get stuck into the club rather than trying to find out why we did what we did last night
What did brady say as to why we traded for a lower pick?

Also looking back on these posts I don't see how the original post can be claimed to be "in jest"

The quality of the list has improved immensely over the last two years. More to do, of course. But for now, stfu and let's just enjoy the ride.

Essendon didn’t move up to stop Geelong from taking Caddy. They did it because they knew other teams were after that pick so if it wasn’t them it was likely Geelong would have traded with another club who would have taken Caddy

Outside of the top 13 with the Suns insane acadamy draft haul, this is a very very average draft year. Yes there will be a couple of later picks that will turn out to be ok, more pot luck than anything. If one of our last three picks turns out ok we should be happy. 200 cm plus players are realy a gamble we had to take. And the people losing it over not taking the late pick, really it's junk time. We managed to get two players that in most draft years are going to be in the top 5 or top 8 at the least and history says will play 200 plus game. Two years in a row now and we have the guts of a dynasty and I am all in. Happy Days, enjoy the amazing ride to the top.

Well I'm never good at remembering things exactly as they were said, but they did try to move up the order on the second night in discussions with other clubs but couldn't get any deals across the line. A large amount goes on behind the scenes between all clubs that we are never going to hear about or see even a sign of it happening.

I think he also said that taking a pick in the Rookie Draft, rather than at 48, allows for more flexibility in a couple of years time when we have to prune our list back to the same size as all other clubs, because players on the Rookie list are only on 1 year contracts.

If you scroll back a few pages you can listen to the whole interview.

Or GR will spot my feeble efforts here and fill you in properly. :D

There were no other teams after that pick though, they had the next pick.

They literally traded pick 11 and pick 31 for Geelong’s pick 10.

But they would have missed on O’Sullivan who they wanted.
