"West Coast have refused to confirm they will take Harley Reid if they keep the first selection in the draft, despite him being touted as the best player in the pool for more than 12 months.

List boss Rohan O’Brien also said the Eagles are in no rush when it comes to deciding if they will retain the prized pick No.1 or split it for a bumper draft hand ahead of next month’s draft.

Reid is seen as the man every club would take with the first selection in this year’s draft, but O’Brien was keeping his cards close to his chest when asked if they had decided who they would pick.

“There’s a little bit more work to do there,” O’Brien said.

“We’re just waiting on some information around medicals and we’ll get together as a group and discuss all those things.

“We haven’t landed on an outright position just yet.”...

The trade period officially ends tomorrow, but clubs can trade picks only from Monday, October 23 through to Friday, November 10 as well as during the draft.

It gives West Coast plenty of time to decide what they will do with the No.1 pick, as clubs including North Melbourne try to pry it from their hands.

O’Brien said they had not fielded too many calls about a potential trade but expected that to ramp up in the coming weeks.

“To be fair I think clubs have got a number of other things on the go at the moment that they need to work through,” O’Brien told Trade Radio.

“That may change once the player exchange period finishes and we move more into selections.

“We’ve had a few calls but the phone hasn’t been ringing off the hook if I’m honest.”

O’Brien said they wouldn’t put a deadline on when they’d decide whether they’d retain the No.1 pick.

“Some clubs have indicated that they’d like to speak to us when the time is right and we’re happy to listen to anyone,” O’Brien said."

And given the comments are the really interesting thing beyond that:

Doubt he'd come.
Won't be getting a chance for consistent games at the Roos barring major injuries.
At least he'll compete for a spot at St kilda.
yet we're looking to draft 2-3 more mids?

Powell has been in and out, and I know I'm probably in the minority around here but I'm not sold on Will because I think he's a limited footballer.

But they are a big club though. Did you notice?
A bigger bunch of clueless sheep I am yet to see.
I have never minded WC over the years, mainly cause they are on TV every second Sunday and they’ve had some great players to watch, but fk me are they arrogant. I really don’t get why. 2 team town and they had a 14 year leg up on their redheaded step brother. Of course you‘re a big supporter base ya douche bags, how could ya fk it up!!!

Did you know they are a rich club....and if the AFL give them assistance, they'll tell'em to shove it?

Bloody love it when satirical social media accounts turn out to be prophetic.

Worse than Oliver? LOL He’s loose but lets just say he’s not as loose as Oliver
Like I said, that depends on your personal values. I think it's doing the rounds on social media more openly now anyway so if you really want to know the details, just dig on twitter a bit and you'll find it

I'll save you the time so you don't need to go to the Pick 1 thread on the MB and how WC fans would reply:

“We’ve had a few calls but the phone hasn’t been ringing off the hook if I’m honest.” Translated to "Brady we want pick 2+3".

O’Brien said they wouldn’t put a deadline on when they’d decide whether they’d retain the No.1 pick.

“We certainly aren’t putting a price on it, but we’re happy to listen to what clubs have to say and make any decision at the time." - Translated as "We want pick 2+3".

“We won’t put a timeline on things - the way it’s all structured now we can really wait up until the last hour or so to make a decision. Unless something blows us out of the water, I think we’ll take as much time as we need.” Translated "Brady, you got to the last sec on trade night, we want pick 2+3"
