I’d try to get Jeremy Sharp off their hands too. Hard running winger who can’t get an extended crack at AFL level.

I know we rated him top 5. We didn’t expect him to be at our pick which is why we traded it out. We really wanted either Ash or Flanders.

Funny though, we didn’t rate Serong inside the top 15 and he is looking like being top 3 in that draft with ease.
Would be happy to get Jeremy sharp who is out of contract and would come cheap but you’d imagine he’d be looking to get back to WA next year if possible

Maybe it has something to do with WA not having daylight savings? He spends more time standing up in NSW and gravity takes over.
I knew there had to be a reason why I wasn’t 6 foot…

If Mckay leaves, who are realistic Key defender targets?

Twoomey mentioned Brennan Cox is a watch as an unsigned pre-agent hitting free agency in 2024.

He's an SA boy though.

The other key 2024 defender pre-agents unsigned so far are, these pre-agents are more and more moving at the end of their penultimate year (think Hunter Clark/Jacob Hopper):

Joel Smith
Josh Battle
Jack Henry
Jake Kolodjnashnij
James Stewart

OOC 2023:

Esava Ratagolea
Caleb Marchbank
Joel Hamling
Brandon Zerk-Thatcher
Lachie Keefe
Jake Riccardi
James Blanck
Will Gould
Alex Keath

Of that list i'd definitely be enquiring about Cox, Ratagolea, Battle, Riccardi, Hamling.

Joel Smith would be a decent cheap pickup even to replace Bonar/Ziebell imo.

There's enough around in there to stop gap imo in the event McKay left. There's a number of them that are major upgrades on what we have.

I'd probably go reasonably hard at Cox/Ratagolea and then see if we could also get Riccardi back on the cheap, but as a CHB, not a forward. I'd be eyeing off Battle as a FA in 2024 also.

What years was Luff in charge of our drafting? OTC raving about big aggressive Ollie Lord from Port, taken pick 49 in 2020. We took Lazaro and Spicer before Lord, Samson Ryan or even Highmore from Saints.
In that same draft we’d already taken WiPhi and Tom Powell, both on the smallish side for mids.
WTf did we need another 180cm mid for? Absolutely clueless list management. Any wonder we are where we are.

Shit comment. Why not list all the other busts in the draft not the three late picks that have come on? No mention of Eddie Ford at 55?

Looking like a crap draft anyway. WP, Powell and Ford looks a good haul given how some others have faired.

BZT would take a bit of convincing and Esava is playing every week at Geelong

Esava wanted to go to Port last year and still hasn't signed a new deal, I think despite Geelong having one in front of him for a while.

Can't imagine there is a heap of room in the Costa salary cap for these mid level players.

Look up until the 3rd, he had a pretty ordinary game. A couple of opportunistic goals, some weak efforts on the 2nd defender, fumbles, key misses at key moments, getting caught…It’s there.

He turned it around and took his chances. Good on him for having a great last quarter when the game was done.

He hasn’t been in great touch this year. He has been super inconsistent (maybe just a side effect of our inconsistent midfield), has in fact melted on the contest. When he is on, he kicks goals in quick succession as is evidenced by the third in the Coleman.

Have a look at how he is kicking his goals: he is kicking through dinky but smart leads and opportunism. Now that is great for your crumbing forwards, but for a 200cm, 100kg forward, we need more physicality. We need bumping, splitting packs, bringing the ball to the ground, taking your opportunities after good play.

It simply hasn’t been there consistently this year for him.
I don't think he's been perfect but he's had three games where he had less than two goals (Only one goalless game) and five where he kicked three or more. That's pretty consistent, especially considering how bad we've been at times and his lack of KPF support.

Surely the Dees will let Tomlinson go for greater opportunity elsewhere.

No chance on Himmelberg and DGB looks a bust.

Id be looking at Tom Barrass for Ports first round pick.

West Coast need a total rebuild and even players at 27 years old wont be there when they next play finals.
DGB is exactly why we must get round1 compo for McKay (if he leaves). Which we'd likely use to get Curtin.
No pick is a certainty and talls are even more hit n miss.
We all know McKay is far better than he's shown this year. Anything less id rather keep him.

Gold Coast will be offloading their first rounder at this stage. We should be trying to get out hands on it.
Could we do a salary dump with Chol, who isnt in there best 22 and is contracted to the end of 2025?
Chol moved to the GC to be closer to family.

Agree with the above except that Lazzaro is contracted for 2024. I get the impression that the powers that be like Howe so maybe he'll get a 1 year extension. I think you could possibly add Perez to that list he's OOC and unfortunately hasn't done much, at this stage, to warrant another.
So is Cunners.

Ha you joke, only premiership team in sporting existence who can win and take on a salary dump. You’d expect half that team to be holding their hands out.

But without the costa cap, you could expect Esava to double his salary and get extra years if he moved.

On the plus side Esava and Logue could actually make a decent pair of talls.

I don't understand this talk.

He's from the same draft as Will Phillips, he has time to put on weight and adapt to AFL footy.

I'd be happy for him to join us, even though i can't see it happening.

I'm not paying what Hawthorn would want for him though.

He's definitely not a bust yet, but there's alarm bells if a side like Hawthorn, in the middle of a rebuild, is willing to offload one of their top picks they have invested in, in the last 3 years.

Just as you made the Phillips comparison, there would be alarm bells if we tried to offload him or Goater.

Most clubs, rightly, would be asking "Why are you getting rid of him?"

No side has a better understanding of his limitations than Hawthorn.

Yep, that's why i said I can't see it happening.

I have a theory that he's being held back a little bit at the Hawks becasue, Sicily is playing the role ideally DGB should play.
If we kept Mckay for example DGB could play that intercept marking defender role, that's I think suits him best.
